I had dinner at Grand Shanghai at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. The first dish was the cold dish comprising ngo hiang, octopus, jelly fish, prawn and sotong ball. The jelly fish was chewy. Ngo Hiang was spicy and good as it was well fried. The prawn blended well with the salad cream. The second dish was the clear doubled boiled Abalone soup with snow jelly. The second dish was the clear doubled boiled Abalone soup with snow jelly. The soup was clear and taste of seafood sweetness. The abalone was tender and complete.

The third dish was the smoked duck slice in plum sauce served with deep fried Chinese bun. I love the smoked duck slice but I did not enjoy the deep fried Chinese bun. When the bun had been fried, it became harden and together with the slice meat, I did not know how to eat. I prefer the steamed bun instead of the fried bun. The plum sauce was good.

The fourth dish was live prawn in shiro miso soup. The prawn was served to us in a deep bowl instead of plate as it showed that the prawn was soaked in the soup. When the prawn shelf had been removed, I used the miso soup to go with the prawn. In this way, the prawn would not be dry when I ate. Besides the prawn shelf was so soft that I ate together with the prawn. That was a way to consume natural calcium.

The fifth dish was the braised giant top shelf and mushroom with young vegetable. The mushroom was soft and moisture with rich sauce. Not only that, the young vegetable deserved praise. They were soft and yet still maintain freshness, not turning yellow.

The sixth dish was the steamed fresh Garoupa. It was a full Guroupa of 5 kg. The meat was fresh and the meat cooked with ginger, celery and good quality sauce. It was well cooked. The meat did not turn out to be rough.

The seventh dish was stewed Ee Fu Noodle with shredded chicken in barbeque sauce. I could not find any shredded chicken in my bowl. But one thing for sure was that excellent barbeque sauce was used to stew the noodle. The noodle had become slow and yet still maintained its elasticity.

The last dish was Chilled Black Sesame pudding with Almond & Mango Sauce. It was a colourful dish with mango sauce spread as the base on the plate and scattered with strawberry. The sesame pudding was able to maintain its shape well. That shows that sufficient gelatin had added to maintain the firmness of the pudding. Numerous black sesame seeds could be found in the pudding. It was a wonderful dessert which sweetness everyone’s taste bud.

I came here for a friend's wedding. Chilli prawn was well marinated, love the sauce and really spicyCod fish was not very smooth nor tender. Among all I liked this abalone the most, abalone was very chewy.Beijing duck normal, not very crispy.Xiao long bao also so-so,and have a slight lingering smell of pork.Overall this restaurant have nice ambience but not nice food.

I came here for a friend's wedding.

Chilli prawn was well marinated, love the sauce and really spicy
Cod fish was not very smooth nor tender.
Among all I liked this abalone the most, abalone was very chewy.
Beijing duck normal, not very crispy.
Xiao long bao also so-so,and have a slight lingering smell of pork.
Overall this restaurant have nice ambience but not nice food.

Honeyed covered eel may not sound really appetising at first but once you bite into this small piece of goodness, it is going to be leaving you wanting for more. Love the honey covered fried eel that is crunshy and sweet. This is a cold dish and is great for appetizers. This dish does not really taste like eel and does not have the eel texture to it. Love this crispy dish.

Cold appetisers and cold dishes( leng cai) can be ordered here at Grand Shanghai and i love the spinach that comes with a topping of pine nuts that are roasted previously. Although it may not look very appealing at first, this spinach dish is really nice and light to the tastebuds. It is a refreshing way to start of dinner and the pine nuts add a aromatic smell and taste to the dish.

It may sound odd but these mandarin peel prawns have a unique taste to them. It depends on individual taste as i found the prawns to be unique and delicious whereas my other dining companions found the dish odd and was put off by the strong taste of the orange peel. The prawns were crisy and had a nice crunch to them. Service was good at the restaurant and you would be entertained by real life singing.

This luxury Chinese restaurant will never be a venue for my lunch or dinner as its very expensive here. Thanks to my boss, we have hold our yearly gathering at this restaurant which given me the opportunity to try out the food here. The abalone here is abit too tough in texture and does not really absorb the nice fragrant from the gravy cooked in it. The green vegetables are also quite salty and soggy as well. I think other than the environment here which is really nice and cosy, I think the

Tried their fine dining foods during my uncle's birthday celebration. One of their appetitizer which is the Egg White Crab Meat. May look good on their presentation, however the first try of it really bring my high expectation over this dish to a very low point. Lots of beaten egg white is used in this dish, although they are really smooth, but is is quite tasteless as well. The crab meat in it is quite little and not much taste as well. The cold dish here is infact really 'cold'. Was not really impressed by their food as mostly are not serve hot enough. The spring rolls was not really crisp and the fillings are quite little. The cold jelly fish is chewy but taste quite bland. The half boiled egg is also quite tasteless as well. Only the restaurant design looks nice and classy which add in some points to the restaurant. Service is just alright but not really attentive. The price is quite high and is only suitable for bus

Went to Grand Shanghai Restaurant with my family during Chinese New Year.We ordered 6 dishes for 5 persons and its quite filling.food we ordered: cold dish, shark fin soup, steamed fish, vege with abalone, another one i've forgotten, and a dessert which is cream puff.This restaurant has very new oldies decoration and is cosy and comfortable. The service here is pretty good and all staffs are well trained. The food taste alright but could have been better.

Went to Grand Shanghai Restaurant with my family during Chinese New Year.
We ordered 6 dishes for 5 persons and its quite filling.

Grand Shanghai's exterior doesn't garner much attention but step in and be transported back in time to the 1930 - 1960s where nightclubs were a rage. Everything from the tables, lamp shades, dark wood flooring and two blade fans down to the toilets, were reminiscent of a typical nightclub. Pretty much like those you see on TV when Shanghai Triad was aired. Completing the picture was a beguiling songstress belting out a repertoire of popular tunes from that era.A cold dish always gets the appetit

A cold dish always gets the appetite going. Consisting of a slice of chicken, half an egg with roe, deep fried eel and strands of jellyfish, it was just short of terrible in the presentation department. There was no proper placement of the food and no colours to bring out the dish. No garnishes, nothing. That aside, the chicken was cold and rather normal, but nothing to shout about. The deep fried eel was crispy and sweet, which was a rather good way to start things off. A pity about the minimal portions though. The jellyfish was springy and tasted strangely like eating a softer version of beef tripe. Not that its bad, but its just slightly different. Last but not least, the egg. I had problems with this one although I'm a big fan of eggs. It looked every bit a hard boiled egg, just that the egg white was softer and more jelly like. The egg yolk, on the other hand, was a gooey semi solid mass which reeked strongly of raw egg. Top it up with loads of fish roe and you get something that's unbelievably raw and has the occasional pops (I just love biting into the fish roe). I believe (I'm just speculating, don't quote me) that the egg was boiled at a temperature of about 60-70 degrees Celsius for a moderate period of time to achieve such a texture.

The heavyweight dish of the set menu. The Braised Superior Shark's Fin in Brown Sauce alone costs $45 in the ala carte menu! I'm not sure if there's any difference though because I haven't tried ordering it ala carte yet. But it was good. The fins were of moderately good quality and were rather plentiful. The brown sauce was light on the palate and not too starchy. The accompanying plate of beansprouts (with fried Yunnan ham I believe) tasted best when eaten with the soup and not alone.

A rather humble dish, but the Braised Spare Ribs "Wuxi" style's beauty lies in it's simplicity. A single rib served with a stalk of vegetable and a bread stick man tou. The meat came cleanly off the bone without much resistance and was tender. The gravy played a key role in this dish without it coming across as too strong but instead played on its subtlety, allowing the meat to slowly soak up the essence and diffuse through with every bite.

The Deep Fried Cod Fish with Sweet & Sour Sauce and Pinenut wasn't too fantastic. Sure the batter was nicely done and tasty, but it masked the sweetness of the cod fish, which was really a pity. It would have probably tasted the same if other types of fish were used.

The Shanghai Fried Rice wasn't spectacular at all, even though it was one of the recommended dishes. The rice tasted strongly of pepper and nothing else. The ingredients didn't provide any visual appeal nor did they add any taste into this dish. So basically its bland plus bland, which still gives you bland, save for the strong dosage of pepper.

The Shanghai Pork & Crabmeat Dumplings aka Xiao Long Bao got me really excited as I had heard much about them. My expectations proved to be this dish's undoing as I didn't find it good, much less fantastic. For one, the skin was a little too thick and it just didn't have that explode in your mouth kind of feeling. Decent, but I've had better.

Mango Sago - A pretty much standard dessert everywhere you go. This one was a little different in that they added milk into it, making it a little more coagulated and sweet. A small but nice twist to the this very common dish and a great way to end dinner on a high note.

i went to grand shanghai restaurant for dinner with my girlfriend and her family. The food there was really good. my most recommended dish for the day was their xiao long bao. Just by one taste you can tell that the chef is very skillful, the skin is so thin, yet it does not break easily. The soup inside is so tasty is makes you keep wanting for more, I highly recommend this!

We have your fair well dinner for our boss here and was really enjoyable. The food taste alright but could have been better. The mini lobster noodle is quite below standard as the noodles are too dry and is difficult to be separated. My verdict: 6.5/10
