I fell in love with this drink. Happy Lemon's Tea Latte with Brown Sugar Jelly($4) and I always order the JUMBO size.It is a drink that keeps me happy, just somehow. The tea latte, which taste like super thick milk tea, is very rich and the brown sugar jelly just complements the drink so well! Say bye-bye to the old, tapioca pearls. For just 4 bucks, its worth it!

I was thirsty and the queue is short thus decided to try out their normal milk tea with pearls. Well, the pearls are soft and chewy. Tea is aromatic and not too sweet as i ordered 50% sugar level. Somehow i feel they are losing customers, as the queue compared to previously is getting lesser! Neither any complaints nor raves. Pretty simple cup of bubble tea.

Happy Lemon at Ion is always crowded with queues of people. The drink that I ordered is refreshing and not too sweet or sour. They should have added less ice as it became very diluted after the ice melted. Will try other flavours at Happy Lemon next time as there are the best sellers drink at Happy Lemon which seems to be quite popular.

I looked through the menu and was quite surprised at the prices of their drinks. Most drinks were above $3 each! That's expensive to me when I can get more variety of Gong Cha or Koi at lower prices. Finally I decided on the "cheapest" recommended non-caffeine drink - Perilla Lemon Honey Juice ($3).

Luckily I got my drink pretty fast after just 1 customer. The special thing about this drink is that they added little bits of what I believe is Perilla (as seen in the picture) which adds a bit of crunch to the drink. However, other than that it is just simply normal lemon honey drink, more sour than sweet in fact.

If you ask me whether I will order this drink again in future? I'm afraid not, at least not when it's $3......

Tea latte with pearl sago and cream puff is a very sweet drink!!More like a diabetic kinda drink. Should have asked them to lower suger level but they do not have this service compared to other bubble tea shops.Guess the cream puff makes the drink even sweeter.Shall try other flavours next time.

Throughout my six-month stint in Shanghai, I remained a fervent fan of all Happy Lemon franchises despite cheaper alternatives and often found myself wishing one over to Singapore. My wish was granted this year.

Four-year-old bubble tea chain Happy Lemon, which specialises in Lemon-inspired drinks as its name suggests, has recently set up its first branch outside of China and Hong Kong at the basement of Ion.

THE FOOD:

Don't be surprised by various strange combinations such as its Lemon Mousse Spin series, "Rock salt cheese" series and even a Tea Latte with Pearl Sago and Puff Cream. For the adventurous coffee fiends, you might want to try out interesting coffee concoctions like its Grapefruit Black Coffee and Italian Blood Orange Black Coffee.

I naturally went for my favourite Yakult combination in Shanghai and ordered a Lemon Yakult drink. While some might find it strange, my taste buds are already accustomed to Yakult blended drinks. The tinge of lemon (real bits of the fruit) adds a much needed refreshing take after a heavy meal. Plus, Yakult is supposed to be good for digestion.

My companion had a hot Malt Tea Latte, which came highly recommended by his friend. The drink warmed us freezing people up and proved a delicious though filling option. Definitely one to have when feeling unreasonably hungry before a meal. You may also add pearls, jelly and other strange stuff into your drink.

The Rock Salt Cheese series, while not impressive enough for me to return for more, is not too bad either. I could hardly taste the rock salt despite being convinced by the counter staff that I have to drink from the cup to better savour this drink. I won't give the other choices in the series a try, but if you are going to, give yours a little swirl to taste the cheese bits at the bottom. There are three choices available in the Rock Salt Cheese series: Green Tea with Rock Salt and Cheese, Cocoa with Rock Salt and Cheese, and Coffee with Rock Salt and Cheese (Regular $3.50, Jumbo $4.50).

Prices range from $2.30 to $4.70, in addition the number and type of add-ons you go for.

THE MOOD:

Happy Lemon has the brightest, cheeriest bubbly tea corporate image as compared to Gong Cha and Koi. Service's fast and friendly. Upon ordering, you will be given a sweet little queue token in the form of the mascot Lemon Girl. I was happy to note that I was served within 10 minutes, a marked improvement from queues at Koi shops! But like most other bubble tea franchises, Happy Lemon does not provide seating.

In all, Happy Lemon does not top the list of bubble tea in Singapore for taste but shoppers around Ion will be glad for the healthier choice – this bright shop does not add preservatives or artificial additives to their drinks.

When I first saw the menu, I was shocked with so many weird names and combinations. I ordered the unique Rock Salt + Cheese combo with Chocolate and to my surprise, it actually taste nice. But maybe it is because I have ordered the more "common" drink of their, I can't taste the uniqueness of Happy Lemon and my drink taste more like Chocolate Milk (because the rock salt taste didn't jump out and the milky texture is quite strong).

I will definitely try out the other drinks if I happened to pass by the store, even though the price range (around $2 to $3.50? for each cup) is a bit steep for students like me.

Overall, it is a nice experience! Look forward to queues outside Happy Lemon branches in the future, it is like the next KOI craze.

After my IPL session at Strip, my stomach longed for a quick fix (if you don’t already know by now, I’m always in need of a quick food and drink fix for an energy boost to keep up with my oh-so-hectic schedule) so I, not surprisingly, entered Ion’s basement 4, which was my type of foodie paradise, with quick food bites and drinks stalls galore. Normally to find such unique stalls you would have to walk down the rowdy and non-air-conditioned streets of Taiwan or China, but in this case, we can find them in a posh shopping mall that we all quickly fell in love with. I was in search of a smoothie store that sold real fruit juice when Happy Lemon (not a real fruit juice store) caught my eye. How could it not? It’s ridiculously cute, which was was got me a bit wary at first, because cute = sweet = dangerous. My fears quickly diminished when I learned that Happy Lemon select only high quality ingredients and they do not subscribe to preservatives or artificial additives for their drinks. Alas, I can keep to my plan of having a healthy diet!

Wanting to stay true to my healthy dose of antioxidants, I chose the Green Tea with Rock Salt and Cheese for $3.50, regular size please. Paid up and took my queue number which was in the form of, you guessed it, some lemon thingy (what exactly do you call that thingy in the picture below? For the life of me, I’ve been wrecking my brains to find out! Those of you who know, please advice! Xie xie ne!)

Yay, got my drink!

Oh what’s that you say dear counter staff? I musn’t drink it with the straw or I can’t taste the cheese? Oh, okay, sure. But the foam on top doesn’t taste very cheese-like to me though, in fact, it reminds me of Gong Cha’s signature milk tea at City Square Mall where there is a thick layer of foamy milk with green tea powder sprinkled on top of it. It has been awhile since I’ve drank Gong Cha’s Milk Tea and I’ve only done so once, so I might have to re-explore what the difference is between these two drinks, but as far as I can remember, the similarities are quite uncanny.

Loads of other creative types to check out such as the Mousse Spin series where they have Yakult! Yay!
