Overall the food was not bad. I also served warm water by the staff too without being asked. I was surprised that there was no other customer besides me. It was cozy and enjoyable meal.

There was huge comfortable armchairs with small tables around, with bars on both levels.

Harry's 1992 ($16)
A bright vodka-based concoction with notes of the blue curacao, lychee liqueur, grapefruit juice and a splash of grenadine syrup
It was a 2 colour tone drink with blue on top and red below. When mixed, it turned into purple colour. It was quite a light fruity drink.

Adult Cheesecake Sundae ($16)
A cheeky twist on everyone's favourite dessert with cheesecake and half a shot of Baileys on the side. Hic.
It tasted like vanilla ice cream with brownies in it, but one can feel the heat of the liquor flowing down the throat.

Overall the food was delicious and servings were huge that we could not finish the dishes. Maybe because the crowd was huge. Our orders of drinks took quite awhile to arrive and there was some mix up on certain orders too. There was free wifi available, so remember to ask the staffs for the password.

First came the Croissant Croque Monsieur! A buttery and soft alternative with the croissant - (apparently) was a new twist deviating from its traditional ways by Harry's. Filled with Ham and Cheese plus topped with béchamel sauce for a subtle sweetness, this dish was definately a favourite for me. It was chewy and almost melted in my mouth can?!
There's also a Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs Croissant for those who'd prefer something aside to ham.

Lastly, the Fries up were served - Ham, Bacon and Mushroom Fry Up and the Vegetable Fry Up (option for Vegetarians). 2 sunny side ups with an assortment of ingredients and 2 slices of toasted sourdough bread (which we made into a heart-shape because it's what you do. Perhaps it was all the meat from previous dishes or perhaps one just needs their vegetable intake for the day, I seemed to prefer the Vegetable Fry Up with fine beans, mushrooms, peas and cherry (to-make-you-merry) tomatoes. Harry's also has Harry's Champion Breakfast which has all-the-works with sausages, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans, eggs and toast - which we didn't get to try out. But look at all those that we did, there was definately no space left in the tummy zone!

Another thing to note is... you can always add on "a little something for a heartier breakfast", ranging from meat options, Smoked Salmon, different types of toast or beans and mushrooms.

Kudos to Harry's for launching Brunch - a very delicious one and tapping on their calming alfresco atmosphere. It's nice to have an uninterupted view at Boat Quay in the daytime (considering it's always been a place to hangout at night) with the lovely company of OpenRice members who enjoyed food and fun/funny conversations with

So, yes. Yes, go and have your brunch there one of these days before it gets filled in, daily.

Soft Boiled Eggs & Marmite Soldiers
A unique dish where you are suppose to dip the marmite soldiers into the soft boiled eggs. Marmite can be a little salty on their own, but when eaten together with the toast and runny eggs, it felt like a good finger food, suitable for snacking any time!
Hearty and eggy, the brunch at Harry’s Bar is sure to give you a taste of modern European breakfast. Great ambience, having to sit just at the edge of the Singapore River while enjoying some lovely eggs and sipping on some coffee and fresh fruit juices.
Thank you @harrysbarsg & @openrice for the wonderful brunch experience!

Okay, their Croissant Croque-Monsieur (S$12) is new to my dictionary. Isn't croque monsieur usually consist of sandwich? Screw that shit. At Harry's Bar, a heavenly combination of ham and grilled cheese are encrusted within a nice, crispy croissant, that is topped up with another layer of cheese. Needless to say, this French beauty is baked to perfection. Oh, damyyyum.

Fry-Up consists of two sunny-side up, fried together with either veggies and mushrooms (S$12, below) or ham, bacon and mushrooms (S$13), and topped with cherry tomatoes. The eggs were nicely done with firm whites and a slightly runny yolk, which is a great complement to the toasted sour-dough. However, the steep price might be a huge turnoff for many.

Luscious Soft-boiled eggs paired with Marmite soldiers (S$7) are your atas version of the typical kopitiam breakfast - just that there is no pepper or dark soy sauce. These are soldiers that definitely pack a salty punch, but apparently, one of the food bloggers, praised it to the high heavens. For me, I felt like I needed a dialysis. I got to confess that I am not a fan of marmite though. An acquired taste, I supposed.

Assorted Muffins (S$2.90) which comes in a variety of flavours, such as Oatmeal Apple, Raisin Walnut, Raspberry, and Banana Peanut Butter. They are baked freshly at Harry's Bar itself to ensure a tiptop quality of freshness - crumbly exterior coupled with a moist and fluffy texture within. Banana PB was my favourite amongst the four. Everything goes well with PB (and Nutella), no?

All in all, Harry's Bar is definitely a great place to hang around and chill out with friends whilst enjoy the breeze and picturesque landscape. Their breakfast menu is pretty decent for a start, but improvements can definitely be implemented. Last but not least, I want to thank Reka from Openrice, as well as, Harry's Bar for organising this food tasting event, it's always a pleasure to meet like-minded individuals.

Having a caffe latte while dining alfresco may not be very advisable in the midday heat, but it works just fine in the morning! I absolutely loved the deep, bitter essence and the frothy foam on top. It was also a visual treat to observe the gradual blending of the layers of foam and coffee!

You can't go wrong with ham and cheese. A combination of these in your croissant is food heaven — the flaky and melt-in-your-mouth tender crust made me wonder if this had come right out of a Paris kitchen. There was a strong milky, buttery fragrance as well. If Harry's Bar were located near my office, I think I'd eat this for breakfast every day...

One of the greatest challenges with pot pies is keeping them from turning soggy. We spent about 15 minutes snapping away with our cameras, and yet the pies remained crusty and flaky. Whether you go for the Creamy Chicken and Vegetables or Mushroom and Potatoes Veloute with Vegetables, you are assured of a smooth, flaky and rich-tasting experience!

Pot Pie

My heart sank when I first saw this — the sourdough sticks looked like a heart broken into two. At first sight, the eggs looked pretty unflattering, along with unevenly distributed ingredients. Surprisingly though, the consistency of the eggs was pretty brilliant! With a firm yet jelly-like texture, this is perhaps one of the best sunny side-ups I've had — the yolks in particular were gooey yet held their shape well when my knife went through them.

Ham, Bacon and Mushroom Fry Up

I would skip the Soft boiled eggs & Marmite soldiers though — the chunks of bread were a tad too salty, and the eggs seemed overly-adapted to the Singapore style of half-boiled eggs in a pot. But if you'd like to try a variation of Ya-Kun's famed breakfast eggs and toast, you might perhaps wish to give this a try!

We rounded off the session with refreshing pineapple juice. I had a bit of time to look across the river and ponder the transformation of Singapore— especially since Harry's Bar is located directly across from where our founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew (aka Harry) recently lay in state inside Parliament House. Thank you to both Harrys for adding such vibrancy to Singapore!

Thanks to OpenRice Sg, we had the opportunity to try out their latest breakfast menu.

Croissant Croque Monsieur ($12)

What better way to start your day than to indulge with some buttery soft bread to fill up on your carbo? Flaky, light and fluffy croissant sandwiched with ham and melted cheese. Topped with

béchamel sauce for subtle hits of sweetness. There were not much béchamel sauce which perhaps has seeped into the croissant. Despite this, this serving was one of my favorites.

Comes with a balsamic simple salad.

Say Morning to warm fluffy muffins! ($2.90) each.

The important essence of muffins, for me, are to have them hot while they are still crusty on the top. That was just how Harry's muffins were.

Another love of mine, these muffins were not overly sweet and just nice.

We had the Creamy Chicken and vegetables version. Yummy soup to go with the pie.

Another version would be the Mushroom and Potatoes with Vegetables.

Everyone's favourite soft boiled egg goes absolutely well with the crispy savory cheese toast, spread with Marmite. We love this simple goodness. Marmite attack!

Start your day with a nutritious fill up with sunny-sides up mixed in with beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and peas, served with sourdough.

This version was much nicer.

The Ham, Bacon and Mushroom Fry Up on the other hand was much saltier and we would much prefered if the seasoning be reduced as the cured meat were already salty on their own.

The way to had them is to break the egg yolk and soak them on the sourdough so as to soften the toast and makes it easier to have them all mixed up together.

Not pure juices, but simply a cooling thirst quencher to accompaniment the yummy hearty breakfast at Harry's Bar.

Harry’s recently launched their breakfast menu. More known for their bar grub and drinks , the good folks at Harrys are expanding their repertoire to focus more on their food menu and their breakfast menu is one of their new offerings . Taking into account their strategic location near the Central Business District (CBD) , the breakfast menu is aimed at the discerning office executive that wants more than his or her usual kaya toast , soft boil eggs and kopi o at their local kopitiam. Available from 8am to 10.30am daily at the Boat Quay outlet, it is suited for hungry executives working in the nearby Raffles Place area. They have dine in options as well as takeaway options for those in a rush. The al fresco area outside the restaurant overlooking the picturesque Singapore river is perfect for to relax while having a power breakfast to fuel the body. If you are not working in the area , fret not , Harry’s is open on weekends too . For those who like to cafe hop , why not avoid the usual crowded cafes and give Harry’s a go . Quiet and relaxing , perfect place for breakfast followed by some reading.

Boat Quay in the morning is really a far cry from the hip and happening watering hole it is during the night-time. Thanks to the good folks at OpenRice , I had the chance to taste Harry’s Breakfast menu on an idyllic Saturday morning. Offering modern European fare , Harry’s breakfast menu consist of the usual breakfast favourites such as eggs , croissants and coffee. What is interesting is that they offer unique interpretations of the usual breakfast fare , some of the interesting offered here include fry ups , marmite soldiers and croissant croque-monsieur. Salivating yet ? Lets move on to their food options .

It comes with 2 perfectly soft-boiled eggs in a little pot and 4 pieces of Marmite toast . The main star of the dish was the marmite fingerling, slices of toast lathered with copious amounts of marmite and topped with savoury cheese . The marmite slices had the very distinct marmite flavour which fans would swoon over . It has a strong umami goodness that went very well with the runny soft-boiled eggs . I found it a little too strong flavoured to my liking but I never like marmite anyways . The friend who loves marmite , absolutely adored this dish . Needless to say , the toast fingers packs a punch , no wonder they are called soldiers . A must order item for all those marmite fans out there.

2 versions of the fry ups are offered here , Ham, Bacon and Mushroom Fry Up ( $13 ) and Vegetables Fry Up ( $12 ) . Their fry up is like a cross between an omelette and a sunny side up . A plate of protein packed eggy goodness with bits and pieces of various ingredients scattered around . Two runny sunny side eggs yolks in the middle surrounded by a chockfull of various veges and meats. Instagrammers would totally dig the colours on this dish. Both versions come with 2 pieces of toast to go with the delicious eggs. I felt the vegetable version was the better one of the two dishes . The crunch of the vegetables added extra depth to the dish . The Ham Bacon version was a little too salty for my liking .

The pot pie is a comfort food that would appeal to most people . The pot pie served here is top with a crumbly flaky crust and a hearty filling of plump chicken and rich creamy gravy with mushrooms . The creamy gravy was soothing and full of umami goodness . An absolute delight to the tastebuds.

Croque-Monsieur is traditionally a grilled ham and cheese sandwich topped with béchamel. Here at Harry’s , instead of a sandwich , a croissant is used . I like croissants and I like grilled ham and cheese sandwiches , what can I say , I totally loved the dish . The crunchy flaky croissant stuffed with savoury ham and cheese was delicious . The added bonus was that the béchamel sauce gave the croissant a subtle sweetness that balanced the savoury buttery croissant underneath elevating the dish from a simple pastry to an epicurean delight . This is the dish to try if you ever popped by Harry’s for breakfast.

A variety of muffins was served to us that day . The flavours include Banana Peanut Butter , Raisin Walnut , Raspberry and Oatmeal Apple . Surprisingly, the muffins were better than I expected . They were soft , moist and not too sweet , just how I like my muffins to be. Imagine them to be like those sold at Kenny Roger’s , only much better . The muffins here are freshly baked each day , no wonder they are so moist . Of the bunch , I loved their banana peanut butter muffin. Savoury PB went very well with the sweetness of the banana and the muffin. Truth be told , I like my peanut butter , in fact I could have peanut butter with anything.
Overall, my experience at Harry’s Bar was an enjoyable one . The breakfast menu was pretty decent , albeit a little salty. The portions were huge, good for sharing . In addition , the menu items were relatively cheap considering the location. If you are around the area and starving for a good breakfast , do drop by Harry’s Bar to try out their breakfast menu.

The Croissant Croque Monsieur ($12) was a ham and cheese on a croissant. Though looked simple, the taste was heavenly. Baked, crisp cheesy top layer with savoury ham on a fluffy croissant.

The Ham, Bacon and Mushroom Fry Up ($13) looked like an omelette before beating in a bowl. A simple pan fried sunny side up with savoury meat and fresh mushroom. Flowing yolk with cooked white. I still preferred an omelette style for this dish.

The Soft Boiled Eggs & Marmite Soldiers ($7) has a small pot, initially I thought the pot was Chawamushi. The Marmite Soldiers was too salty and the soft boiled eggs were under done, slightly watery.

Overall, I enjoyed having Harry's Breakfast Club, though the prices for some are slightly high for a breakfast meal in the business district.

Thanks to the lovely folks at OpenRice who invited me to this food-tasting session, I got a glimpse of what the CBD looks like on a sleepy scorching Saturday morning. Just to clarify, it’s not as though I’m persona non grata in the CBD (I always get invited to partays, okay), but it’s just that I never had a compelling reason to travel down on weekends. In fact, I’m probably not alone in thinking that nothing much is open around the Raffles Place area on weekend mornings. Weekend nights are a different story though, what with the number of bars lining Boat Quay, you’d be hard-pressed to find a reason to leave.

Notwithstanding my contact lenses mishap early in the day, this morning spent at Harry’s Boat Quay really opened my eyes in more ways than one. It’s genius really, when you think about it. Bars are great, Brunches are great, so why not both? It should always be BARunch I say, any time of the day! Ever walked into a brunch place and lamented their measly offerings of weak bubbly and watered-down mimosas, wishing instead for a pint of the good stuff?

At Harry’s Boat Quay, the good stuff is always there, but now you get brunch to wash it down, too. That’s the type of washing that even feminists can enjoy.

Moreover, you don’t get your SBO (Standard Battle Order) line-up of Brunch favourites over at Harry’s. Instead, they are going for the whole European comfort food vibe, but with a twist. And before anyone’s knickers get in a similar state, let’s take a look at some of their main offerings.

1. Soft Boiled Eggs & Marmite Soldiers ($7)

This con-COCOTTE-tion, of soft boiled eggs with fingerling toasties smeared with a generous amount of marmite and topped with cheese, is absolute heaven. Hell, I’d march into war with them Marmite Soldiers any day, YUMS. Needless to say, this Brit-Aussie take on brunch really packs a punch, at least for me.

2. Croissant Croque Monsieur ($12)

Ah, mon ami. Let’s French it up a notch, and replace our bread with the quintessential Croissant. While it retains only a slight crunch (possibly to the point of being blasphemous to its namesake), the result is a juicier, more scrumptious version of good old Mister Crunch. Actually, I’d probably nickname this my Mister Munch instead, or Le Croix Monsieur perhaps? :/ While I enjoyed this very much, the béchamel sauce probably seeped into the porous croissant, which is really sad. Béchamel over Chanel, baby. I’m crazy over the side salad by the way – it’s dressed in a simple balsamic reduction, which the lovely Nataline at Harry’s describes as a light accompaniment to an otherwise heavy meal. Oui, oui!

3. Chicken Pot Pie ($12)

What would Sweeny Todd do, when faced with pastry draped over stew? This is in reference to a May 2014 petition originating from London, appropriately urging folks to “Make wrongly describing a casserole with a pastry lid as a pie a criminal offence”. I kid you not. Alas, it’s but a rose by any other name, my friends. I’d still lap up this deliciously creamy Chicken Pot Pie and be content. The best part of this dish is the satisfying bite – even the mushrooms are quartered and not sliced!

4. Fry Up Galore – Ham, Bacon and Mushroom Fry Up ($13); Vegetables Fry Up ($12)

To be honest, while I loved the way the eggs and ingredients are presented, I was pretty underwhelmed by both Fry Ups, to be honest. The Vegetables Fry Up was marginally better, with its slightly sweet overall taste and the crunchy fresh beans. However, I felt the Ham, Bacon and Mushroom Fry Up could go easier on the seasoning – plus, I couldn’t taste the Bacon too. Everyone knows Bacon can make or break a dish, unless it’s Kevin Bacon (haha, sorry I had to say it).

The Fry Ups I know and love are usually Irish, and served with their nation’s best spud hash. Luck of the leprechauns, indeed.

The staggering array of muffins was presented to us early in the meal, and I’d have to admit I’m not a big fan of muffins. I usually found the texture too dry and mealy, but this rendition is surprising good, especially the Banana and Peanut Butter Muffin! Another one I really liked is the Granny Smith Muffin, for the juicy tartness that binds the muffin and cuts through the gelat-ness. The Raspberry and Cheese didn’t stand out in my opinion, and I didn’t touch the Raisins and Walnuts, seeing as I’m averse to raisins. If I were to judge solely on the base, dough (haha geddit?), I’d say these muffins are definitely batter than expected!

A word for the purists – I had the Cranberry Juice ($6), and like most bars, it’s not freshly squeezed or anything. My bad though, who does juices in a bar, amirite? Kronenbourg Blanc FTW.

I'll end with a sneak peek behind the scenes of a typical foodie's tasting session! All in all, a lovely day spent in lovely company. I definitely found a new hideout for when I’m decidedly sick of hipster-style food, and craving post-hungover style pub grub. Which probably is most of the time. Seriously, try Harry’s Boat Quay out, and bring your big boy pants. x
