For more photos, check out my post: http://hazeldiary.comIn Mexican, 'Hombre' is 'man' in Spanish or a slang term meaning 'dude'. 'Cantina' means 'bar'. Well. Hombre Cantina, a Mexican food joint established in September 2013 along Boat Quay that serves variety choice of drinks and mexican foods. Thanks to OpenriceSG for the invitation and get to explore about Hombre Cantina. The interior of the place is decorated with beach theme with a simple and nice touch up. Since it's mexican style, customers approach the counter to place their orders. Foods and drinks are delivered by the service staff upon ordering.Six main courses are available to choose from the menu price at S$15.00++.QuesadillasTortilla folded and grilled with cheese and filling of your own choice. The choices are Fried Pacific Dory, Roasted Pork Shoulder, Braised Beef Brisket, Roasted Chicken Thigh and Roasted Veggies. We tried the beef and chicken version that day and I am loving it with the melting cheese in between. Best to enjoy it while it is hot!NachosTortilla chips topped with black beans paste, cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream & fresh cilantro. Generous serving in a basket to share among friends and to go with beer.BurritoTortilla with Mexican-styled rice, black beans, lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream with filling of your own choice. Choices are Fried Pacific Dory, Roasted Pork Shoulder, Braised Beef Brisket, Roasted Chicken Thigh and Roasted Veggies. We tried the beef and veggies flavors. Definitely a filling main course to choose with the amount served. Well mixed ingredients all in one serving!Tacos3 soft corn tortillas wrapped with cabbage and pico de gallo with the filling of your choice. Choices are Fried Pacific Dory, Roasted Pork Shoulder, Braised Beef Brisket, Roasted Chicken Thigh and Roasted Veggies. My personal preference is Fried Pacific Dory with tomato salsas.Rice Bowl.Mexican-styled rice topped with black beans, lettuce, black beans, pico de gallo and sour cream, topped of with your choice of filling. If you are a rice person, you can opt for this.Mexican Corn S$8.00. Grilled corn cob with Hombre's in-house spices that makes the grilled corn different from others. Other than the spices, there is also grated cheese to enhance the flavor of the ala-carte.Chicken Chicharrones S$10.00. It's one of their best seller to go with the beer. It is coated with the in-house spice blend and served with sprinkle lime over it. Quite refreshing taste after the sprinkle though. The owner was kind enough to serve us Tamarindo. One of the recommended drink which turned out to be the favourite of the ladies on the table. Tamarindo is made up of chilli and tamarind. Served on the table with a spicy green chilli with its seeds floating in the middle of the drink.A sip of it makes you go 'wow' and asking for more of it.Fruta is the combination with passion fruit or watermelon. Refreshing fruity taste with 50ml of Tequila with salt clinging on the rim of the glass cup. Perfect choice for the ladies taste buds.Hombre Cantina is a nice chillout place for group gatherings. The place has a beautiful scenery that you wouldn't want to miss too. You will be spoilt with the choices of drinks available here but not the foods though. 繼續閱讀

Visit http://www.umakemehungry.com/2015/02/hombre-cantina.htmlHomebre Cantina is set on the riverside stretch of boat quay to satisfy your cravings for Mexican Flavours. The term "Hombre" is an affectionate slang for "dude" in Spanish. Positioned itself as Cantina since the first day of opening in Sept 2013, this Gastrobar served casual delicious Mexican food at a great value.Ordering is make easy in few Steps: Step 1 - Choosing your mains at $15+ each and Step 2, Choose your fillings & Salsa. This concept gives customer a choice to build their own Mexican bites in a casual and comfortable environment for the mains while sides, soups and desserts can be ordered separately. Some have the idea that a Mexican Bar is about Tequilas, this can't go wrong for you as Hombre Cantina is known for one of the widest Tequilas selection in Singapore. Do join in the fun.Environment is unpretentious with Sobreros hanging on the walls indicating Hombre Cantina's Owners' name.Interior was relaxing in its rustic decor with walks decked up in reclaimed timber palates, creating a beach vibe. Given that the flooring and bar counter has no further decors, just mainly cement screed, I find that its Simple, yet interesting.Following the Mexican style where diners are free to help themselves, for food ordering, one can head straight into the shop to place their order.Free WIFI Connection is provided in the cantina, and to receive free mini magarita or chip and salsa, do like Hombre Cantina on the Facebook.Diners are free to sit anywhere even under bright yellow tentage by the side of the river.Head down for their daily specials from Monday to Friday, 7 - 9pm.Any upcoming Events will be written on the blackboard. The colors combination from the basket of nachos chips together with the different level of spice from the salsa sauce was attention snatching. Starting with the mild spice is the one on the extreme left, followed by the medium spiciness from the fire roasted tomato and the hottest among all, Salsa verde.Chips were all fried fresh from the kitchen and was very crispy throughout. The crispiness from the chips are perfect on the go with the sauces. There were a number of Salsas for pairing but the style I like most is the Pineapple Chile. Tomato, onions and pineapples are chopped into fine pieces and mixed together with cilantro, tangy and appetizing. Its yummy nachos time! These tortilla chips were topped with black beans, cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream and fresh cilantro. The cheesy Quessadillas were fragrant and with grilled with Hombre 's burnt cheese blend under the folded Tortilla. We had them served with roasted chicken thigh and it was not too bad. While we had another version of Quesadillas with Braised Beef Brisket pairing up with the Hot Salsa verde. The texture of the tortilla was a tad cripsy and soft with the beef brisket and the melting cheese. The cross section of the Burrito looked neat and yummy. Tortilla was used to wrapped mexican-style rice, black beans, romaine lettuce, pico de gallo & sour cream. Braised Beef Brisket was chosen as the filling.Fret not for the healthy goers. Hombre Cantina had them at heart by having fillings choice with roasted veggies.Though these Burritos may look enticing, they may also lead us to quite a mess if they are not handled properly. Serving size was thick and quite unglam for the ladies to eat as fillings are often seen dropping out onto the table.Probably, the trick in reducing the mess is to dig a spoon into the Burritos.Tacos comes in a basket of 3, with soft corn tortillas topped with cabbage & pico de gallo. Again, with their brilliant idea of letting dinners choose their own fillings and salsa makes eating fun.We had the fried pacific dory in Tacos filling, one featuring the Hot Salsa verde while the other fire roasted tomato. Do note that Salsa verde can be burning on the tongue. If you want to skip the spicy version, I suggest adding the medium Salsas on your mains as a safer choice or even the Mild Pineapple chile.Last but not least from the main, we had the Mexican-Style rice bowl filled with black beans, romaine lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream.Taking off the alcoholic edge with the Mexican Style Corn as well as the Chicken Chicharrones.Having grown up in Asia, grilled corn cob was nothing extra-ordinary as they are rather common as a side in western food. Perhaps a twist in the ingredients of serving using their Hombre's spice blend and grated cheese spelt out the differences between the Mexican Style and Asian Style of preparation. Some parts of the corn kernels were charred adding on to the dish taste, however it lacked the juiciness and the bursting effect from the corn as I bite them between my teeth.Chicken Chicharrones are recommended sides and they are actually fried chicken skins with Hombre's spice blend. It is close to tasteless if it was without the spice blend, however if you where to sprinkle some lime juice over them, it kind let some refreshing taste into the bites. To enjoy your Mexican bites to the fullest, they are best to dine in their Hot Sauce. Do add some onto your food! And going into the beverages that one should not miss in the Mexican Cantina. An absolute surprise to us. Tamarindo is their classic made up of chilli and Tamarind. One may be pondering what's the green thingy floating in the middle, its actually a spicy green chilli with its seeds afloat. The fantastic combination of these two main ingredients was definitely a great harmony to the tongue as there was no fiery kick but rather addictive with the urge to sip more of it.Fruta can be made to taste with Passion fruit or watermelon. This fruity taste from the drink consists of freshly squashed passion fruit and 50ml of Tequila with salt clinging on the rim of the glass cup.Overall, the place is perfect for a chillout, eat and enjoy the snacks along the beautiful scene of the quay. This trip gave me a deeper understanding of Mexican Dining Environment and somehow I derive that though there are different dishes in the menu, the permutations of ingredients in each dish were somehow repetitive to me and its more of less like eating the same thing, uniquely Mexican. Thanks OpenRice for invitation. 繼續閱讀

In Mexican, 'Hombre' is 'man' in Spanish or a slang term meaning 'dude'. 'Cantina' means 'bar'. Well. That's really the concept of Hombre Cantina, a Mexican food joint born in September 2013 along Boat Quay, which serves up some really neat drinks. Here's a bit more about them. Hombre Cantina is inspired by the Baja peninsula and its long stretches of remote beaches scattered with fishing villages that embrace a slower, simpler way of life and genuine ‘mi casa su casa’ hospitality. Alex developed a love for Baja and its food through multiple trips down the peninsula as a youngster. First, we were served chips with 3 salsas, with Pineapple Chile (mild spicy), Fire-roasted tomato (medium spicy), Salsa Verde (Hot). To be honest, I don't find either one really that spicy, but I could taste the varying levels of spiciness. If you can't really take that spicy, I suggest you go for the pineapple, as it's definitely a gentler and milder dip. The Pineapple Chile (in yellow) The Fire-Roasted Tomato salsa (in red) and the Salsa Verde (in green)You can also try the chips with these 3 Chilli sauces, it's really good and spicy! From a milder version to a spicier one, they have it all.The flavour of the nachos were pretty creative and addictive because of its toppings, which is quite an interesting mix: Black beans, cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream & fresh cilantro. The chips used were the same chips they served us with the 3 salsas and I did like the chips as they did not turn soft despite our 2 hour dining session. The quesadillas were really good, served in folded tortilla and grilled with hombre's burnt cheese blend, we had one with braised beef brisket filling and the other filling as Roasted Chicken Thigh. It was very well put together and a delight to have, albeit a little oily.Burrito time! This burrito is bound to make you feel full as it is bulky with alot of stuffings in the tortilla. We tried the beef brisket filling and the roasted veggies. My vote goes to the beef brisket filling as I'm more of a meat person, plus I like how the beef brisket filling made it more juicy and satisfying.Burritos are served with Mexican-style rice, black beans, romaine lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream. The tacos are served with 3 soft corn tortillas wrapped with cabbage & pico de gallo. The food here are quite flexible as you can add on your own fillings and toppings to customise your dish. I liked the Tacos but it was a little messy eating it as the juicy sauce was slapped on top of the taco. But yummy! The Salad Bowl, which contains Romaine lettuce topped with black beans, romaine lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream. Mexican Grilled Corn served with crema, cheese and Hombre's spice blend is also one of my favourite side dishes! The Chicken Chicharrones (Fried Chicken Skin) is best had with lime and their own spice blend (chilli) because it is slightly on the oilier side, Hence, the lime would really help lighten that. Also, try their Fruta. I had the Passionafruit version and I loved it as they used fresh fruit for this with 50ml of tequila. The beers are light and easy to drink. Just push the lemon for an extra zest.I really love this drink, Tamarindo, as it's made with fresh tamarind and chilli. It was very tasty and I will definitely come back for this! This was a real thirst quencher and was really lovely if drank with salt, which they nicely placed on the rim of the glass. They also serve Sparkle Donkey Tequila (distilled double) here. The alcohol level is 40%, and really really strong! I couldn't take this, only for those who can hold their liquor very well, please. For a great place to have alcohol, check out Hombre Cantina. The drinks are really worth the visit.Hombre CantinaLocation:53 Boat Quay Singapore 049842 (Boat Quay) This is an invited media tasting session.Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to Facebook 繼續閱讀

What was I doing at CBD area on a Saturday noon? Nah.... not for work, of coz! I was here for another session of food tasting, thanks to Openrice! HeeHombre Cantina is located at Boat Quay, facing the Singapore River. With its alfresco dining concept, it makes a nice place to chill out over Mexican food and a beer or two. =)And you 'hear' me right, we were having Mexican food at Hombre, really unique hor? To me, Mexican food is probably nachos, tacos & salsas sauces.... Let's find out more! Palette of colorful and gorgeous looking dishes! Cant wait to dig in!First, we had the plain nachos to try out the 3 salsas sauces. From the left to right, we had the mild pineapple chile salsas, medium fire roasted tomato salsas and finally, the most spicy one, hot salsa verde. The nachos were freshly made, so they remained crispy at the end of our 1.5 hour session. I was rather amazed that they didnt become "lau hong" after so long. Keke. Definitely an addictive snack for the chip lovers. There are 6 mains to choose from the menu, each priced at $15+, namely Nachos, Quesadillas, Salad Bowl, Rice Bowl, Tacos and Burrito. NachosTortilla chips topped with black beans paste, cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream & fresh cilantro. It was quite a huge basket and I suggested to share it with friends rather than having it as a main on your own. The 'secret ingredient' was the black beans paste, which was surprisingly good. QuesadillasTortilla folded & grilled with cheese, with the filling of your own choice: Fried Pacific Dory / Roasted Pork Shoulder/Braised Beef Brisket/Roasted Chicken Thigh/Roasted Veggies Roasted Chicken ThighBraised Beef BrisketWe got to try both the chicken and beef fillings, which were the more popular selection. I must say, this was my favorite main. The quesadillas were served warm with generous servings of the meat filling. BurritoTortilla with Mexican-styled rice, black beans, lettuce, pico de gallo & sour cream, with the filling of your own choice: Fried Pacific Dory / Roasted Pork Shoulder/Braised Beef Brisket/Roasted Chicken Thigh/Roasted Veggies Roasted VeggiesBraised Beef BrisketFor the rice lovers, you can opt for the burrito. The rice tasted a bit tangy and went well with the braised beef brisket, which was pretty tender. A pity was that the portion was a bit too big to handle? It may be messy to eat, especially for the office ladies. What I did was to just scoop out the filling and just ate the filling lor... Probably making them into mouth size portions will be better? Tacos3 soft corn tortillas wrapped with cabbage & pico de gallo, with the filling of your own choice: Fried Pacific Dory / Roasted Pork Shoulder/Braised Beef Brisket/Roasted Chicken Thigh/Roasted VeggiesI only tried the one with the medium salsas (the bottom picture), which came with the fried pacific dory. The fried pacific dory was nice, served warm and top with the cool tomato salsas.Salad BowlLettuce topped with black beans, pico de gallo & sour cream, topped of with your choice of filling.Rice BowlMexican-styled rice topped with black beans, lettuce, black beans, pico de gallo & sour cream, topped of with your choice of filling. At one glance, the salad bowl and rice bowl looked quite the same. The difference is merely more lettuce for the salad bowl or mexican-styled rice for the rice bowl. Personally, I prefer the salad bowl, being the healthier option and tasted refreshing! Especially, after we had so much tortilla earlier on. =pFor sides, we had the Mexican corn ($8) and Chicken Chicharrones ($10)The corns were sprinkled with Hombre's spice blend & cheese. But I find that the corns were a bit dry, not quite my liking, so I probably give this a miss next time. Chicken Chiccharrones what? I can already see the question marks popping. Dont be shock ar.... actually, they were fried chicken skins. The skins were crispy and not oily. And guess what? It was FREE during the Happy Hour 5 - 7pm DAILY. Free + daily = ultimate combination liao. Need more spice? Hehe.... #neverseebeforespicesomusttakepicture #superlonghashtagDaily offers! Dont forget to check it out!And dont forget to say hi to our friendly hosts! =)Visit http://fun-hideout.blogspot.sg/2015/02/food-tasting-hombre-cantina.html  繼續閱讀
