Tried google-ing a few recommended places for crabs where i can bring some of my international friends to. As its their last few days in Singapore and they told me they have yet to tried our famous chilli crab, so decided to bring them to Irvins located at Jalan Leban. When i first step in, i was kind of taken aback as it’s pretty empty, and i’m wondering, oh no, did the standard drop and so no one is around! Pumpkin prawn: Pumpkin taste isnt too raw and sauce is a lil creamy. Even someone for me who doesn’t eat pumpkin find it good! Prawns used were big and fresh and deep fried to crispy!
Generally their crab prices are seasonal and vary accordingly to their sizes. But the ones at Irvins’ are quite reasonable. The big ones cause about probably around $50 odd, and sometimes they have promotional prices for crabs which can be as cheap as $18.

Salted Egg Crab: This is one of the promotional crab we ordered and chose to have it the salted egg style. Although, it’s small and i did not expect much from it, but to my surprise, it’s rather meaty! And the golden yellow sauce is amazing! When you think that dipping man tou into the usual chilli crab sauce is good, dipping it into this golden salted egg sauce is equally awesome! Definitely a good alternative for someone who prefer the non-spicy way. Their man tou is good too! Crispy on the outside, and soft in the inside!

Singapore Signature Chilli Crab: The meat of the Sri Lanka crab is fresh, meaty and jie shi. Definitely feeling shiok when eating it! The gravy is needless to say, a little spicy and well thicken with eggs.

Black Pepper Crab: The black pepper flavor may be a lil overwhelming and choking due to the nature of black pepper. So if you are not someone who enjoys taking spicy food, you may choose other alternatives. But other than being a lil overwhelm by the black pepper, it taste pretty good too!
Irvins’ prices are quite decent and food served are fresh. It’s quite spacious and air-conditioned. So beside it being a little ulu, i find it a good place for a family dinner!

There is a choice of rice between brown rice, garlic rice and plain rice. I am having garlic rice to go with the sliced pork. It is more like fried rice with crispy garlic bits on top. A oily but tasty.

Although it is written on the menu there is a choice of dessert or soup, but I am served a bowl of salted duck soup. My lunch mate who is having fish soup, has hot red bean soup. When we asked the staff about it, she said that it is fixed.
The soup is quite flavourful with the meat very tender.

Overall food is not bad, but there is not much crowd. Only 2 other tables besides us. Service is also not bad as drink is refilled from time to time.

mm i was wondering which dish to start with haha, they're all so good!!! their signature dish is Irvin's Salted Egg Crab ($23.90). i'm a stickler for dirt, which means that i rarely eat crab (although i love chili crab for the sauce! but mostly i'll eat the sauce alone without the crab if i can help it) cos i dont want to get my hands dirty
haha yes, abit OCD. but this crab, it was IRRESISTIBLE. haha i'm too excited already, keep using CAPS. but it was great!! the sweet-salty egg yolk sauce was so rich and scrumptious, and the crab was fresh with the meat tender and springy. i just dug into it and heaped massive amounts of sauce on everything, nevermind the possible cholesterol/heart attack which could befall me. it's just once in awhile! ;)

the crispy butter chicken ($15.80) was another chef's recommended dish. sooooo delicious! another ultra sinful dish, but i think i couldnt care less that day haha. crispy chicken, with a fragrant, mouth-watering sauce that i absolutely couldn't resist.

the dry crispy belachan eggplant ($12.80) had the oomph of the chili and was once-again (yes, really every dish was!) drool-worthy. each slice of eggplant was crisply fried on the outside and soft & squishy inside hehe.

the hot plate tofu with special minced pork ($12.80) came with a super generous amount of sauce (yay likes!
). sizzling hot and fragrant, it was a wonderfully comfy dish.

We had a craving for salted egg crab. Unlike most of the other restaurant, Irvins’ salted egg crab has a twinge of spice in its sauce. Given that we were not that hungry, we only order a small crab. And when i said small, it really meant small and tiny.
The salted egg sauce texture is just nice. Not too watery, neither it is too thick. They even sell the sauce in bottles! So I am assuming that the salted egg sauce is really very popular among their customers too!

We did not expect the fish head to be so BIG. We were quite stunned by the amount of size and we did have some difficulties in polishing it down. They actually fried the fish head before they braised it. The best part, the fish is still crispy despite it being braised in a claypot. There are plenty of vegetables inside the claypot. So if you are a big fan of fish and vegetables, this dish is really good for sharing because it is really BIG and the price is very reasonable for the size of the fish head. Anyway, we did not get any dessert as the selection was rather limited.

And if you do not like soupy stuffs, here is a Claypot Braised Fish Head, something that would be good for going on rice for young children. And also filled to the brim with ingredients, it is so worth every drop. Compared to the milky soup base, this one will make me continue to eat it because the milky soup will fill me tummy up faster, But I Still Love BOTH! \(^o^)/

My family came by here wanting to eat nonya food actually, but was surprised to find it no longer there. Anyway, since we arrived late at 1.30 pm, we did not want to go elsewhere and just decided to try whatever is offered here. The staff recommended us the buffet lunch spread - we had a look at the dishes, they seemed like quite a good spread, so we went ahead with the buffet. We were apprehensive if they will top up the dishes as we were already late and the buffet is supposedly till 2.30 pm. Anyway, we were reassured that they will....which they did for most dishes which were almost out. Unfortunately, they ran out of chocolate ice cream, which was a letdown especially for my niece.

Guess the food was generally ok for a buffet priced at $13.90+ per pax (no gst).

Crab meat seafood soup - There were bits of fresh crab within, quite fresh. Not too bad.

Chicken feet - Well-braised and quite nice.

Tofu skin prawn - Fresh prawns fried to a nice crisp. Seems the seafood offered were all fresh and reasonably good.

Steamed pork ribs, pork knuckles with vinegar - Tasted alright.

Steamed stuffed dim sum - Yucky like most offered at buffets. The fried dim sums were still ok.

Century egg pork porridge - Tasted ok for the first round, but was very salty for the second round (which they cooked up for us)

The salted egg sauce dip to go with their fried man tou was simply delicious! You can easily go over your calorie count for the day if you are not careful....

The stewed duck with bun (like kong bak bao but replacing the pork belly with duck) was good too.

- Stewed duck bun

If you are not too particular about your food, this place is ok for a reasonably priced buffet. At least there's the salted egg sauce to go with the man tou!

The stir fried crab in generous creamy salted egg concoction is a nightmare for any dietician. The irresistible sauce will make you forget about the high cholesterol! Be warn that the creamy fragrance will linger on your taste buds for a long time that other dishes may taste like salted egg yolk too! It will be prefect if they had use Sri Lanak crab, its tender and succulent meat will definitely be a heavenly match with the sauce.

If you loves the salted egg sauce (who don't?), it can be purchase at $12 per box that is freshly made upon ordering.

The reddish sauce is made of bean paste with chilli. Don't be fret by the colour, it is not spicy as it look. Taste like the sweet thai chili, the sauce was flavorful and aromatic. Unfortunately this delicacy of Chef Yap's creation is not on the menu, BUT it can be cooked upon customer request.

The pumpkin sauce taste almost like salted egg! No joke! The sauce was thick, creamy and rich, can't really taste the pumpkin thou. I think the prawn was overcooked as it was a little tough. If you don't want to dirty your hands, deshell prawns are available at $18.80 (s) $28.80(L) (different prawns are used for deshell).

Its creamy and buttery sauce was so sinful and mouth-watering! The tender and juicy pork ribs with the aroma of the curry leaves make the dish fragrant and savouring. We heard this was Irvin (the boss) favourite dish!

Hot Plate Tofu with Special Minced Pork @ $12.80
Blocks of tofu stir-fried in a sweet and spicy thick sauce studded with minced pork was decent. Non-spicy hot plate tufu with chicken is available upon request.

Salted French Beans
Initially we felt the veggie was a little bland but we begin to appreciate it after all the rich and creamy sauce dishes. Maybe more chili padi & dried scrimp will make it a little savor.

- My Opinion
I am freak out by the number of cholesterol I have intake with all their specialty of salted egg sauce and butter cream dishes! But I must admit it was an enjoyable dinner.

Irvin's will be giving out 10% discount to our blog readers from now till 31 July 2012! Simply quote "Singapore's Most Handsome Restaurant" before making payment and you will be entitle to the discount.

After previous visit to Irvin's Live Seafood House for its famous value for money $12 All You Can Eat Lunch Buffet, me & my friends decided to check out its dinner buffet for a belated birthday celebration. Apparently, Irvin's outdid its lunch buffet offering with additional steamboat choices on top of its usual lunch spread for a pretty decent price of $18.50.

While at Irvin's, it's hard to miss LeBan HK Cafe, the latest addition to the stretch of eateries at Jalan Leban. Although Leban is a malay word, its pronunciation sounded like 'Happy Boss' in Chinese Pinyin language. Basically, the owner hopes that all guest will enjoy their dining experience at the cafe and leave feeling like happy bosses!

We decided to go for this newbie instead. True to its name, the cafe had a simple but cheerful interior.

Started with a refreshing Blueberry Lagoon while ordering our main dishes.

The health conscious can have their EYV (Eat your Vegetables) Juice.

There were a few dishes that were recommended by Stephenie, our friendly marketer from LeBan. I went for something less adventurous - Pork Chop Baked Rice in Cream Sauce ($8.90). This dish had to be served and consumed while its piping hot to fully appreciate the cheesy texture of the mozzarella. I was able to taste a slight hint of chicken stock which was used instead of water during the rice cooking process. Its actually Pork Chop Chicken Rice Baked in Cream Sauce!

My friend ordered Vermicelli with Pork Cartilage in Fish Soup ($6.20). It was a rather healthy dish with a light (& pretty boring) soup base.

But the special marinated pork cartilage that accompanied the noodles was an absolute knock out. The marinated meat was juicy, tender and flavourful. This divine piece of marinated pork cartilage honestly deserves a more fitting staple.

The next main that came along was Seafood Spaghetti In Tomato Sauce ($7.90). It had a generous helping of clams, prawn and squid over the pasta but there is something fundamentally wrong with the dish. My friend who ordered this managed to pinpoint it down to 'trying to prepare western spaghetti using traditional Chinese style of cooking'. It just tasted weird.

The final main Sizzling Porkchop in BBQ Sauce ($8.90) turned out to be our overall favourite main dish for the evening. The rich BBQ sauce added a dulcet flavour to the succulent pork chop. I wished I have ordered this instead - its so good!

After we were done with our main dishes, we ordered a serving of Fries With Salted Egg Yolk Sauce ($5.90) to munch leisurely over post dinner chit chat. Our verdict: salted egg yolk sauce taste good with practically anything but between fries and chips. Ditch the fries.

Stephenie was really sweet to surprise my friend Gabriel with 2 huge balls to celebrate his birthday!

These balls were actually Sun Fried Ice Cream ($4.00) and diners get to choose from 5 different flavours: Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Cookies & Cream, Vanilla Classic, Green Tea or Strawberry Surprise. Relished the unique taste experience when I took in a mouthful of hot crispy outer skin with the cold, soft milky ice cream interior.

A BIG Thank You to Stephenie for being such a wonderful host. We really enjoyed our birthday dinner at Leban.

Thrilled to be labelled as a 'Very Interesting Person' by Leban! I now get to enjoy 10% every time I visit the Irvin's or LeBan. Awesome

The promise of lunch buffet at only $12 (inclusive GST) per pax at a new restaurant called Irvin's Live Seafood House saw me & my colleagues heading down to Jalan Leban for a hearty Friday lunch.

I was surprised to see the restaurant occupying half of what was previously Ivin's Nyonya Specialities space.

They had an impressive lunch buffet menu that offers different dishes daily! They really took great pains to make sure that customers are never bored with their spread. You can check out what we had for lunch on 27 Apr below.

A beautiful centrepiece with starters like salad and finger food greeted us as we stepped into the restaurant. After the friendly waitress brought us to our table, we quickly scattered off to check out the spread.

Main staples like fried rice, fried noodles, plain rice & porridge were available as main fillers. My advice is to skip the first 3 and ...

Go for the abalone porridge! For my Non-Chinese readers, abalone is considered an expensive auspicious treat that is usually taken only during the Lunar New Year. Abalone porridge at a $12 lunch buffet sounds unbelievable!

The porridge tasted sweet and had a really smooth texture. That probably came from hours of simmering with abalone broth. There were some chewy abalone like strips sighted. But we were not fully convinced that these were abalone, sounds too good to be true.

Their Seafood Broth was a must try too! Its flavourful from long hours of boiling with chicken, crab and other ingredients and had the starchy texture of shark fin soup.

These super yummy potato chips hid a sinful ingredient - salted egg yolk! The dish definitely test the skill of the cook. He needs to stir fry these fragile chips and make sure that they are evenly coated with salted egg yolk sauce. It's such an innovative combination, I hope they have patented it!

Besides coating the chips, a large bowl of salted egg yolk sauce was also made available for another indulgence.

It's for diners to dip their hot, crispy golden brown fried bun into! You have to try your best to block out thoughts on high cholesterol and weight issues when you bite into this heavenly union.

We loved their Butter Chicken too. Tender chicken meat fried till golden brown & coated with a layer of smooth butter. Why do sinful stuff all taste so good....

Below are some of the other dishes like Beef with Ginger, Five Flavoured Prawns, Deep Fried Crispy Pork Ribs and others that were served during the buffet.

There were 2 dessert options to choose from. I went for their Black Glutinous Rice Paste also known as Pulot Hitam. It has a light coconut milk fragrance so I assumed coconut milk has already been added. The sweetness was just right and each mouthful feels so comforting. I am guilty of wolfing down 3 bowls of this wonderful dessert.

The health conscious can opt for Cheng Teng which is believed to be able to get rid of humidity and “heatiness” of a person.

I strongly recommend all readers to check out their lunch buffet soon! Its super value for money.

After they moved to the new location which is far from the previous place, we really miss this restaurant because it was our fovorite crab restaurant in Singapore. We tried hard to find the new location and finally went there last weekend! The taste was same as before! We tried Salted Egg Crab and Barachan Crab, and they were sooooooo good ! They are so special and distinguished from other crab restaurants' ones. I think the cook there is so talented and know how to make crab so delicious. The Salted Egg Crab in this restaurant tastes more like some kind of art... so delicate and fancy like French sauce or something. Even the restaurnt is far from our house now, we will go there often from now on, too, because it's worth it!
