Ang Ku Kueh

This is one of the famous shops for Ang Ku Kueh nestled in the quiet estate of Everton Park. I have heard so much about them and have never get a chance to taste it till now. There was quite a few people waiting to order when i was there. When it was my turn to order, the coconut filling has already been sold out. I have heard that flavor is the top seller there. I wanted the peanuts, the sweet bean paste, salted bean paste and the yam paste to go. There were another group of aunties making the Ang Ku Kueh in the next room. They were rolling out the dough and moulding them with fillings into different types of Ang Ku Kueh then putting them into the steamers. All these Ang Ku Kueh are still handmade traditionally. I guess that is the only secret to these delicately made Ang Ku Kueh. Each piece is about 0.60 cents. The different flavors tasted differently. My favourite has to be the peanuts filling. The peanuts are grinded nicely to perfect each bite with just the right level of sweetness and texture. The rice flour skin is rather thin with a desirable chewiness that complemented the different filling totally. The salted bean and the yam paste are equally good choice. The filling was nicely done to give it the smooth and flavorful texture. The Ang Ku Kueh are packed nicely in a box for taking away. They even have their name printed on the box. My Grandpa would have love the sweet bean and the salted bean flavor. I still love the simple and old school taste. 繼續閱讀

My mother ask me to buy back ang ku kueh for afternoon tea. This stall’s ang ku kueh is really good, the skin is very chewy. They have different flavours of ang ku kueh. I bought the yam, coconut, peanut, corn and original flavour. The yam flavour was my sister’s favourite. The yam filling was really good, not too sweet and you can taste it that they use really good yam to make the feeling. The peanut one was not too bad too, the peanut filling was fragrant, a little sweet. The corn was so so, but it is my dad’s favourite. My mum and I still prefer the original flavour. I think they sell one of the best ang ku kuh, with a variety of flavours. 繼續閱讀

Ji Xiang ang ku kueh is an old brand name which most of the older generation will be familiar with. Their ang ku kuehs are also sold to other kueh stalls around singapore if I am not mistaken. I especially went there to get their ang ku kuehs even though it is slightly out of the way for me. I got a box of 5 peanut and 5 mung bean ang ku kuehs. The peanut ones have freshly grounded peanuts with sugar as filling and freshly ground peanuts are always especially fragrant. The ang ku kueh skin is soft and slightly chewy which matches well with the whichever filling that you order. My favourite has to be the peanut ang ku kueh! 繼續閱讀

The traditional Ang Gu Kueh comes in red, which symoblise auspicious for the chinese. Other flavours like yam and coconut were added to the family of Ang Gu Kueh, but the one that I like best is still the red Ang Gu Kueh. The texture of the Kueh is tender and thin, fillings are very generously wrapped in the kueh. I love their peanut flavour too as it does not fall off easier when bite, you can even taste the coarse sugar that they blend into the grounded peanut. 繼續閱讀
