i liked the soufle a bit better. the lava cake was very good too, excellent lava & combination of texture & flavours.

i am not sure though taste wise it was actually better than my own chocolate lava cake (however i have not made lava cake for a while & the more recent couple times did not come out that well in terms of producing the lava texture…i must really try again this…)…

maybe i will try the chocolate soufle too…i tried the grand marnier soufle once..it was ok but maybe a chocolate flavoured one maybe more the taste for my wife & i.

the flat white was ok, but didn’t feel any better than that at asseemly coffee or at wheedler’s yard. and i still feel that the flat white at chye seng huat & at dutch colony at pasarbella were better.

I used to visit French Chcoolatier Laurent Bernard for an occasion indulgence in its chocolate truffles and pastries and I am delighted to be able to taste its exquisite chocolate mooncakes this year.
Available as a box of 8 at $68, each of these chocolate-loaded "mooncakes" contained zero lotus paste and a unique flavour core that matches very well with the type of chocolate.
Encased in a delicate chocolate shell, both the Milk and Dark chocolate Mooncake sat on a beloved crunchy hazelnut praline base contained a gooey salted caramel fondant. I especially adore the Dark chocolate Mooncake (above) as the intensity of the cacao accentuates the sweet dash of caramel. Somehow, the image of an elegant, miniature version of Pierre Herme's Plasir Sucre surfaced in my mind as I savour them slowly.
The White Chocolate with Champagne Ganache and Strawberry Pearl was too sweet for my liking and the taste of champagne was overshadowed by the sweetness of the strawberry compote. However, the quality of the chocolate consistently shines here just like the rest of the chocolate mooncakes, with an alluring smooth and shiny texture. In fact, few might know that Laurent adopts environmental-friendly practices and works with Alain Abel, the founder of Tahiti Vanille for the best quality vanilla for his products.
Last but not least, Japanese Green Tea Mooncake was highly enjoyable as there was a surprise crunch from the black sesame seeds that was blended into the green tea chocolate. In addition, the zesty passion fruit compote provided a desirable switch of taste.
Each of these chocolate mooncakes are also available at individual piece for $12. Though these up-sized chocolate pralines might not be traditional, they are still delectable sweet treats that definitely go well with a cup of tea to enjoy during the Mooncake festival. And they probably save you some calories accumulated this season.

The chocolate drink tasted a bit too strong for my taste and too condensed. My friend on the other hand ordered coffee latte and the taste was a bit too diluted.

I still remember it was quite late after work that I went to the cafe, and the warm hazelnut chocolate did help to perk me up.My bf ordered the Irish coffee ( $9), which contained some alcohol. My conclusion: Stick to chocolate drinks lah! The safest drink of the universe! Who can resist chocolate anyway??

The outlet at The Pier at Robertson if I'm not mistaken, is the only Laurent Bernard Chocolatier selling more than their standard chocolates and thus offer dine-in facilities , both indoors and alfresco seating. Chocolate lovers throng the cafe throughout the day, but it's only at night when it really becomes packed with dessert lovers and chocoholics alike.
P.S.: The name on the signboard actually says Laurent Cafe & Chocolate Bar

Inside the cafe, it feels like a jaunt into a spruced up cafe from olden times - Victorian looking furniture and furnishings, a spick and span counter alongside a display fridge where you pick your ice creams from, lit overhead by a bunch of bare light bulbs.

Guanaja Chocolate Soufflé - $18
Getting down to the core agenda of my visit - the legendary Guanaja Chocolate Soufflé. Prepared only on demand to ensure quality and freshness, each order takes approximately 15 minutes of waiting time. A paltry wait when the soufflé is finally served. All puffed up with a luscious looking chocolaty crown, the soufflé was served with a white chocolate sauce and a side of raspberry ice cream. Cutting into the soufflé and its soft yielding middle, wafts of aromatic chocolate hits you immediately. It was light, yet rich at the same time, and the centre was slightly gooey still, giving an interesting contrast to the dish as a whole.

One word: Delightful

I for one would not advocate the white chocolate sauce. When I tried it, it was a little too watered down for my taste. Views on the raspberry ice creams remain divided. It's super citrus-y and acidic and while it adds to the flavour profile, you've got to be a fruity person to enjoy it.

Some people might say, $18 for a soufflé, or any dessert at that is really overpaying it. But I still really enjoyed it as any chocoholic or dessert lover would. Laurent Bernard Chocolatier has just set the benchmark for chocolate soufflés for me, and I very much look forward to my next return visit.

The crowd here are mostly women, who come here to chitchat/high tea. It's a dimly lit cosy place indoors which is nice considering how bright and hot it was outside. Limited seating area though. The staff seemed to have a little attitude problem or we got them on a bad day. We ordered the Souffle here, which was creamy, thick, hot and sweet. Quite good. There's a little waiting time as it can only be made on the spot which is understandable. This area is nice and quiet to go for a stroll.

late night desserts at the quay if you needed a chocolate fix. My choice is definitely the chocolatier at laurent bernard.we were spoilt for choice. at least half of us have had it before so they made a decisive choice to get two rounds of these profiteroles.loving that massive scoop of vanilla ice cream. the puffs were alright i do suppose. but we make homemade ones and cannot be compared. And i like the chocolate sauce. ohyum!

loving that massive scoop of vanilla ice cream.

the puffs were alright i do suppose. but we make homemade ones and cannot be compared. And i like the chocolate sauce.

Plus, Laurent Cafe's air conditioning wasn't working so we had to sit outside - doh!Anyway, we ordered the choc souffle ($18+). Anyway, we ordered the choc souffle ($18+). Yes, it's pretty expensive for dessert but I trust LB to produce good choc - and guess what? I had no regrets! The souffle turned out pretty good. It actually wasn't very sweet. It comes with raspberry sorbet and a side of low-fat (maybe even non-fat - not too sure) milk to pour into the souffle. What you get is a lovely chocolate mash - think choc lava cake only wetter. Takes a while to be ready, about 15-20 mins, but I think it's worth the wait.

second option for me is their trianon S$8.50 (Hazelnut biscuit base and chocolate cream) dark rich chocolate mousse combined with excellent hazelnut base.
third is Pleasure S$10.50 (A combination of chocolate sheets, whipped chocolate cream, ganache, hazelnut dacquoise and praline) soothes the sweet tooth.. reminds me of Ferrero Rocher. XD

The other MUST try is their souffle. The texture of the souffle is simply amazing, light and fluffy. Delicious! My fave is Rum & Raisins Souffle S$18 and

S$18. The vanilla sauce served in a mini jar and they are nicely sweetened and flavored.

Which is better you ask? I guess it really depends on your preference...

If you are in flavour of really thick chocolate dessert and do not mind to spend abit more to enjoy it, this chocolate tart is a really nice choice. The environment here is very cosy and spacious, which you will be very much able to enjoy your tea and dessert in much quiet venue with your love ones. Apple Tart Tatin with Vanilla Ice-Cream, you can taste each thick piece of the cooked apple, and the taste of the brown sauce is already absorb by the apple. so taste... and eat it with the ice cream is even better!

well after the first two dessert, can't help to try one more, their Green Apple Sorbet, very refreshing, you can even taste the green apple skin! thumb-up! and it is not sour too (in a good way)

I really like the chocolates from this place and recently I noticed they are selling prepacked chocolates as well. This hazelnut milk chocolate is simply superb! You can taste the quality - much different to mass market chocolates. The hazelnuts wasn't very generous but the chocolate quality made up for it. It is very well balanced and just sweet enough. It's not cheap but it's worth it. It's good to be able to takeaway chocolates to give as gifts from this place.

I love the atmosphere here, very relax and great to chill out. I ordered their chocolate soufflé, it took them some time to prepare it, cos soufflé cool down really quickly and when they do, it sinks. It is the worst thing that can happened to your soufflé. In fact, you have to serve it well chilled for the best flavour. Leaving it out at room temperature will only cause the cream to melt into a soft mess very quickly. But otherwise, the flavour and taste was superb!

It's apparently made with only pure butter - no other oils, margarines, lard or whatever. So there was no horrid or sickening aftertaste in your mouth. In fact, you just want to eat the whole cake in one sitting - it's that good! It's made using Amarene and not Morello cherries. We loved the kirsch-soaked cherries. The Kirsch used was defnitely of very high quality. None of those cheap yucky stuff. Not rum or brandy or vodka either.

It might look like there's lots of cream on it but seriously, you need the cream to balance out the intense flavour of the cherries and kirsch. The chocolate shavings and chocolate mousse/cream were obviously made of extremely high quality chocolate. Not a hint of cheap compounds or bad quality stuff.

Ordering the cake was super easy and you don't even have to talk to anyone. Just click away online! And trust that it's the best quality stuff you can get! The box reminds me of Tiffany's jewellery box. You know there's going to be something wonderful inside!

Definitely a cake for adults - might be too alcoholic for children. And defnitely only suitable for Black Forest cake connoisseurs - no neighbourhood wannabes here. We can't get enough of this cake! Would like thicker cake layers and more chocolate mousse though!
