Salt & Pepper Chicken ($6.90)
Although this looked like pop corn chicken, the chicken chunks used here were slightly bigger. It was crispy outside while tender juicy inside. The seasoning was done well, not too salty but still had its fragrant.

The beancurd was not as soft as what we usually had, it was actually kind of ...bouncy.

Baby bak choy ($4.8)
The bak choy was served with pork belly, quite a new combination to me. The pork belly had been braised so it was rather tasty.

I took salted chicken noodle and sweet potato fries, Goh took their braised pork rice with pig's ear and LC took the century egg tofu. My noodle comes with minced pork and is normal kind of yellow mee which is not to my liking, sweet potato fries is cut into big slices so is very filling and is sweet not too bad. Goh commented his Lu ru rice quite tasty but he still misses the one in Gaoxiong. LC's mee sua is good too not too salty. Tofu is quite normal and pig's ear is soft and tender.

This dish was absolutely delicious!
Best to share as I felt like a glutton after consuming most of this dish myself! The chix pcs weren't overly salty. There were small side servings of Salted Veg, Sliced Mini-Cucumber, Braised Egg and 1 slice of Taiwan Sausage. And it didn't end there - there were bits of Braised Pork Belly on top of the rice!

We also ordered the following side dishes:

Century Egg Tofu

This dish was refreshing, as the tofu was served cold. Do eat it together w e Century Egg and shavings! Go easy on the sauce, as it might get a little salty.

Sweet Potato Fries

This was another good dish! Nothing different from the usual Sweet Potato Fritter. Need to share as 1 pc is enough to cause a "KO" after a main dish has been consumed.

Iced Winter Melon Tea
I can't recall if this was homemade or not. In any case, it did not taste any different from the canned version.

Total Cost: FREE!
My uncle's treat! Haha!

Have ordered the Braised Minced Pork Rice ($10) and although the pork isn't what we can really consider as 'minced' but rather pork belly styled, it's kind of nice because it kind of portrays the higher quality ingredients. The dish also includes different kinds of vegetables, snow bean curd and braised egg. Give everything a good mix then eat in big mouthfuls, it's really good. However, I still personally feel that it should probably be priced around $6 instead.

Have also ordered the <b style="line-height: 1.6;">Iced Red Milk Tea ($4.80) and <b style="line-height: 1.6;">Iced Green Milk Tea ($4.80) and we were probably mistaken that there's no pearls in these, we later learned that the ones with pearls cost $5.80 each instead. Furthermore, it's kind of weird that both red and green ones tasted very similar and there's no distinctive difference which was disappointing.

Overall, although my main tasted great and I really love that kind of ambience the place provides, I might probably not visit again because everything are slightly overpriced. They do provide set meals below $20 but items are limited to what I want to try. But the place would be great for people with no budget limits though!

Located at the top level of the mall, it has both outside and inside seating. I love how Taiwan-like the place was with the map of Taiwan and the red lanterns that adorn the ceilings. The owner, Fiona who joined us for the meal later told us that the concept of the cafe was based off the night markets in Taiwan. I definitely did feel like I was in the middle of Raohe night market!

Beef Noodle soup is something I would recommend as comfort food for cold rainy days. With handmade noodles made from their central kitchen, it was perfected from years of R&D by Fiona the owner herself! It is chewy and matched with the beef broth, I have yet to find something that could match up with this dish.

An ideal side dish to order for sharing, the well battered meat were fried still crispy and served with a slight bit of garnishing. I personally prefer the pork version as it is less dry than the chicken.

The braised rice have to be my favorite dish that night! With the signature Japanese pearl rice and savory braised meat and sauce topping it, it was the closest I had to the actual bowl from Taiwan. A definite must try if you are there. What I like is that addition of other toppings like eggs, veggies etc that makes it a proper meal. In Taiwan, there is usually only rice and meat toppings, which doesn’t fill you up!

Back to the main highlight of this post - I was glad to have the opportunity to savour authentic taiwanese delights at Lee's Taiwanese. People living at the West can rejoice because you can now head to JEM or Star Vista for affordable and authentic flavours of taiwanese food! The owner, Fiona, played a very good host that night, introducing to us the dishes that we had tried. I could see the intense passion in her eyes as she told us stories about sourcing for the right ingredients and how picky she was to finally settle on them. She is really going the extra mile to serve quality food to her customers!

I had forgotten to bring my camera that day so please pardon these pictures taken from my iphone.

The intention is to produce a similar ambience of a night market in Taiwan and after much thoughts, Fiona got these red chinese lanterns hung up at the ceiling. There is indoor seating and al fresco dining which is surprisingly cooling especially when you dine there at night.

Here at Lee's, we tried a couple of their signature dishes.

The 2 highly recommended drinks are the winter melon tea and the red milk tea. Of course, I picked the red milk tea because I love milk tea!!!

Iced Red Milk Tea with Pearls: $5.80
The black pearls are freshly made everyday to attain that nice chewy texture that is expected of pearls. Because they are homemade, you can rest assure that they are absolutely safe to consume as they do not come from some dubious factory that mass make these bubbles in our bubble teas.

Taiwanese Burger (1pc): $3.80
Love our local version of kong ba bao? You will probably love the Taiwanese version! Pork belly, parsley, pickled vegetables and minced peanuts sandwiched between a delightfully soft white bun. I felt that this could be more moist as the peanuts in it made it drier even though it gave it that added texture. I am not a fan of kong ba bao so I cannot review this without any bias.

Century Egg Tofu: $4.80
I really like the idea of having fish flakes as toppings for the century egg tofu. The fish flakes gave the dish extra flavour and texture and everything complemented each other well. The tofu was so soft and silky that the first bite would leave you wanting for more. The sauce was very rich in flavour too although I'd prefer it to taste lighter.

Salt & Pepper Chicken: $6.90
Thigh meat (instead of breast meat) is used to make the meat more tender. The amount of seasoning was just right and was not overpowering. Even though these were bite-sized, I was able to savour the chicken meat because the batter was very thin. This makes such a great snack!

Sweet Potato Fries: $6.90
I love how thick the sweet potato fries are. They were soft yet not soggy nor oily. These fries are definitely a healthier option to the standard french fries. Plum powder is placed at the side for consumers to dip the fries into. I think I am addicted to the plum powder because I could not stop dipping my fries into it! The slightly sour taste of the powder gave a good balance to the natural sweetness of the fries.

Pork Chop: $8.90
Look at how thin the batter is! The pork chop has a light batter coat so that diners can taste the pork chop fully instead of just eating the "flour and batter". The pork chop was surprisingly moist and tender that I almost got it mixed up with the chicken chop.

Chicken Chop: $8.90
The skin was crisp on the outside and the chicken meat was tender on the inside even though breast meat was used. I really dislike how taiwanese chicken chops sold outside contain so much seasoning and thick batter that it becomes a chore eating it.

Braised Minced Pork Rice: $10
I never liked minced pork rice but this was really good. The original version of this is supposed to contain fatty pork meat but to cater to the health-conscious lot in Singapore, less fatty pork meat and the leaner parts of meat are used. It still tasted as good, if not better (I cannot stand fatty meat!). The pork meat was braised well, making it very flavourful too. One could also tell that the rice they use are not the cheap kind. Every grain of rice was separate on its own with no sticky lumps anywhere. Short grain rice was used which reminded me of the rice that the Japanese used - I love it!!! This is a hot favourite that night.

Taiwanese Beef Noodles: $14
One of my favourites, minus the beef :/ It is such a pity that I do not like cooked beef because the taste is too strong to my liking. I did try a little of the beef (prime cut beef is used for this) and it was very tender and not at all tough. It was of no wonder that the soup broth was so delicious and flavourful after being simmered for 4 hours. Somehow, I am able to tolerate the beef soup even though the beef taste was quite strong for this one. I could easily finish up this bowl of beef noodles (without the beef lol)!

Top-grade flour imported directly from Taiwan is used to make these noodles. The noodles are homemade and had a springy texture. Absolutely delish when you eat it together with a mouthful of the soup!

Pig Intestines & Meat Ball Mee Sua: $10
The reason why there is no Oyster Mee Sua on the menu is because Fiona refuses to compromise on the quality of the ingredients by getting substandard oysters. Furthermore, the really fresh oysters are very expensive, at about $2-$3 per piece. If you are turned off by the sight of pigs intestines (just like me), you can request to change the ingredients to pork balls. The texture of the mee sua was very smooth and the soup tasted very healthy because there are no m.s.g placed in it at all!

Mixed Items Crushed Ice: $8.90
Love green bean? Love red bean? Love yam? Then you're in for a treat with this crushed ice dessert drizzled with brown sugar syrup. Finish off your meal with a cool taiwanese dessert. This is great for sharing but if you have a separate stomach for desserts and you adore taiwanese desserts like this, feel free to finish it all by yourself

Many of the ingredients Lee's Taiwanese use are imported from Taiwan. Fiona stresses a lot about the quality of ingredients into making the food. Prices may be steeper here than elsewhere but you do pay for what you get. There is no compromising on quality of ingredients and standard of food here at Lee's. It is not easy to find eateries which emphasizes so much on their ingredients nowadays since profit-making is usually the priority.

Do give Lee's Taiwanese a try if you're around the vicinity.

Starting from their side dishes, we were first served the Century Egg Tofu $3.80, which a much unique dish that is hardly found elsewhere in Singapore. The cold tofu was smooth and soft, which complement the jelly-like century egg. We were told that they specially sourced for good quality century eggs which is why their texture has a slight crunch to them unlike some sold outside that are soft. The soy sauce and bonito used for flavouring makes this dish an absolutely refreshing appetiser! If you love century eggs, you must not miss this dish!

Next comes the most popular Taiwanese street snacks- Salt & Pepper Chicken $6.90 and Chicken or Pork Chop $6.90. The salt & pepper chicken uses chicken thigh meat which made the meat really tender and juicy. Nevertheless, even though the chicken chop uses breast meat, i can vouch for the equally tender and juicy meat encompassed in the crispy batter. The pork chop looks similar to the chicken chop but they are slightly darker in colour. Both were equally delicious.

This was my favourite side of the day- the Sweet Potato Fries $6.90. The sweet potato used was so sweet and was lightly coated with a thin layer of batter. I love the texture of the sweet potato as they were soft yet remain their bite. There was a acompanying plum powder served at the side, so one can choose to have it on its own or dip into it. Personally, i felt that the fries has just the right natural sweetness. One thing i absolutely must highlight is the fact that all their fried food that i have tasted that day remained crispy even after they turned cold (after all the photos taking
) and they were absolutely not oily at all! A recommended 'guiltless' indulgence for fried food lovers!

My favourite mains that day was the Braised Minced Pork Rice $10. It might seem expensive, but you can see from the photo that the plentiful of ingredients and their quality makes it absolutely worthwhile. This is really the BEST braised minced pork rice i have ever eaten. They uphold their philosophy of serving as authentic Taiwanese cuisine as possible by choosing premium pearl rice for this dish. The lovely lady boss told us she has specially choosen the less fatty (aka more meat to fat ratio) pork belly meat to cater to most Singaporean's healthier eating preference. Marinated vegetables, braised beancurd, braised egg and taiwan sausage makes up the rest of the rice bowl, making this dish the perfect choice for people like me who prefers a wide variety of dishes to accompany my bowl of plain rice. :bow

Other notable main dish includes the Taiwanese Burger $12, which is much like our KongBak Bao. However, theirs is served with peanut powder, marinated mustard greens, and coriander leaf. I personally prefer this to our own version of KongBak bao as i find that the accompanying peanut powder and greens liven up the bun taste.

Addtionally, if you have heard of the famous Taiwan Ah Zhong Mian Xian but still haven't gotten the chance to try it, you can satisfy your craving first by having their Pig Intestines & Meat Ball Mee Sua $10. We were told that they specially sourced and airflown their mee sua from taiwan from the same factory as Ah Zhong Mian Xian! I noticed that the mee sua strands were very 'melty' soft and doesn't lump up together. Their pig intestine were also very fresh and doesn't have any foul 'pig smell' that arises from unskilled cleaning. Personally, i feel that it is a very suitable hot and comforting dish on a cold day!

The last main dish of the day was the Beef Noodles $14. Their noodles are handmade in house which make their texture much different compared to most noodles we have outside. Theirs have a slight firm chew yet soft. The beef was very tender. We were told they uses very good bones to boil their soup, so be sure to taste this healthy and nutritious dish! It is one of their bestseller among foreigners in Singapore!

Lastly, who can resist dessert? We were served their Signature mixed items crushed ice $8.90. The serving is really big and best to be shared among 2-3 friends. Brown sugar syrup was drizzled on top of shaved ice, topped with sweetened red beans, green beans and yam puree. This is the perfect treat to end off the wonderful meal!

Thank you OpenRice and Lee Taiwanese for this much appreciated food tasting event! Please do try Lee Taiwanese soon and your belly will thank you for it!

I probably have been attracted to their restaurant because of beef noodles. So I pop in and settled my Tuesday lunch at Lee's Taiwanese.Ordered a Taiwanese Beef Noodles ($14) which was like their favourite in store. I'm quite looking forward to it. When it is served up the bowl of noodles was covered with big slices of beef. They can probably slice it a little smaller for easy consumption. Ordered a Taiwanese Beef Noodles ($14) which was like their favourite in store. I'm quite looking forward to it. When it is served up the bowl of noodles was covered with big slices of beef. They can probably slice it a little smaller for easy consumption. It tastes bland, maybe the marination or braising part is not enough. But the texture is soft and also chewy. Apart from that, there is just noodles, Kai-lan and sauerkraut. The noodles are well-cooked and blends well with the soup base. I think the soup base tastes slightly sour, probably because of the sauerkraut. Overall, I'm still okay with it but not gonna try it again. I still prefer beef noodles in herbal soup base.

And ordered a drink from their menu, Mango Red Tea ($4.80). I'm gonna be diabetic soon because of this. Too sweet. Some sort like bubble tea, using all those flavour syrup to pull it over. I do suggest that they can give customers options to choose the sugar level like those bubble tea shops. This is too sweet and I never finish it sadly. Even with so much ice to dilute the sweetness, it doesn't help at all.

We tried the deluxe set meal for 2, ($15++ per pax) which includes 1 main dish, appetizer and drink per person.

My dining companion was born in Taiwan and was really disappointed with their braised minced pork rice. Firstly, it's nothing like what is offered in Taiwan. Secondly, it's stated as minced pork, but we were given what looks like pork belly! We asked the waitress if this is really their minced pork, and she said yes, the minced pork are smaller pieces of the pork. Who is she trying to fool?

Brasied Minced Pork rice

The snow bean curd was weirdly presented as slices. It's supposedly one of their signature dishes, but I found nothing special about it. It's just cold, slightly tough bean curd which did not taste great at all.

Snow Bean Curd

I've been to taiwan before and tasted their famous ah tiong mee sua, but I can understand if they cannot match their standard. I'm only expecting a reasonable quality, especially for the rather high prices of what are really rather common dishes.

The mee sua is probably brought in from Taiwan, as it has a similar texture to that I've tried before. The soup base tasted ok. However, the pig's intestines were probably not treated well, as they still had a bit of smell. Also, where are the meat balls??? I only found pig's intestines in my bowl.
Felt cheated again.

Pig intestines & Meat Ball Mee Sua

The serving of bak choy was quite big but they were over-blanched, as you can tell from the yellowed stems. Which was a pity since the sauce they used were probably from their braised pork as I could pick out pieces of meat within.

Baby Bak Choy

The iced green tea that I had was a bit too sweet for my liking, although it had a strong enough green tea taste.

For a stall that supposedly sells authentic Taiwanese food, it falls really short of expectations. Definitely will not be back and also advise other patrons to avoid this place.

Besides the food being dissatisfying, the service was not fantastic either. We were barely done with our food and the waitress kept hovering near our table and wanted to clear the dishes.

It was really delicious, although non-comparable to the actual taiwan cuisine, BUT I would say it would be one of the best standards in Singapore. The portion was just right as well.

We also ordered a set of Salt and Pepper Chicken for $6.90. It's really crispy, although deep fried it's not the least bit oily. It was sufficient to be shared within four people... pardon me for the extremely red lighting, it honestly doesn't look like that.

The century egg tofu ($5.80) iS A MUST BUY.... it's like Japanese' cold ageshi tofu, but this is Taiwan-style and I feel so good eating the soft, filmsy, tofu!

A bowl of Taiwan beef noodles cost $12, and you'll get easily sick of it so it's best to share among two people because of the gooey sauce. Tasted delicious for the first half of the meal!

The noodles are finely beaten and at a perfect length, not too long or thick in width. There were an ample amount of ingredients as well.

We also ordered a mango crushed ice for $8.90. I don't recommend this unless you are a highly sweet-tooth fan. My family loves it very much but I was in disgust because of the extreme sweetness.... so I just ate much ice with a little bit of mango sauce.

Oh yes, you have to pay for the water too. We spent a total of $65.90 for 4 people!

It's my first visit to this tiny little Taiwanese restaurant at Star Vista. One would realize that there are more seats outdoor as compared to indoor. It was very windy and breezy outdoor, good atmosphere to chill out with mates. You can either order just the main course, or choose to make your main course as set by additional $6, where you could get an appetizer of the day and a glass of drink. Drink wise, you can choose to have either fruity greentea, or fruity red tea. You get to choose the flavour of the fruit too. Quite alright, though nothing too special.

For main course, I tried the Pig intestine mee sua ($8). The ingredients considered quite a lot, and the mee sua tastes good, with good texture. I quite like it. However, I'd prefer the oyster mee sua, but it's a shame that they don't have it.

Taiwan beef noodles ($12) is quite nice too. The gravy is rich and flavourful, the texture of the beef is tender, after being braised for long. But I reckon it's slightly too expensive.

Braised minced pork rice ($8) is kind of a signature dish for Taiwanese cuisine. This eatery done it Ok, but not superb. It's too much rice but too little braised meat I reckon.

Chicken chop rice ($10) is so huge in portion. The chicken is surprisingly tender even after deep-fried. The batter is not thick too. I'd recommend this if you are a meaty person. Yummy.
