Made a reservation so it is fast and no problem. We ordered the set and it comes fast. The secret is not the food but the sauce they provided. It goes extremely well with the food - especially the green sauce. It has the tangy sweet taste that makes the meat taste so juicy and appetizing! There are many more choices now so if Food could be more, considering the price paid,it will be great!

I quite like the decor of the restaurant, very suitable for big group of gathering, or family dinners. I am most impressed with the Lemongrass Drink, and how crispy the bbq chicken meat can be (yet still juicy on the inside). Sometimes I crave for BBQ, but gets disappointed to get clumpy and fatty meat. At MooJaa, I was quite happy to see swirls of fats on the meat, that melts to really thin, lean BBQ meat. I also quite like their cheese balls, but I guess 1 serving would be good for 2 pax sharing.

On the overall, yummy food, but I still get a little bit of that BBQ smell on my hair and clothes ;p

I gotta say.The chilli here was addictive. And just between the three of us, we finished an entire squeeze bottle of it. oops.we went for the ala carte buffet on the waitress' recommendations. At about $36 per pax, you get your pick of meats and other steamboat items on the menu.i loved the cheese tofu, but that was really taking up tummy space. the crabstick was not the normal round ones, i liked these a lot better. the meats were not very heavily marinated but they were all delicious when gril

i loved the cheese tofu, but that was really taking up tummy space. the crabstick was not the normal round ones, i liked these a lot better.

the meats were not very heavily marinated but they were all delicious when grilled. a little charred on the sides but juicy in the middle.

then dip it into the sauce.

and repeat.

And now with the opening of MooJaa, Mookata Thai BBQ Steamboat, a barbeque/hot-pot eatery along Keong Saik Road, it is almost like having a bit of that Thai experience along the busy streets of Bangkok in a fully air-conditioned well ventilated restaurant, without that after-smell of BBQ. With a Thai chef at the helm and 7/10 families visiting MooJaa being Thai, it is almost a straight out endorsement to the authenticity of the food offered here.

"Moo Ka Ta" literally means "pork skillet" in Thai and refers to the special apparatus used to cook at MooJaa. Made out of a trough of soup sitting over a crock of charcoal with a grill placed over the trough, it is an ingenious two way traffic of allowing the smoke from the charcoal to permeate the meats grilling on top, and for the juices from the meat to drip into the soup, enhancing the flavours of the broth which you can slowly savour and drink.

Binchotan Japanese charcoal is used here at MooJaa as it produces noticeably less soot residue compared to locally obtained charcoal so you are assured that your meats and soup keeps to its true essence with none of that black soot that we often see at regular barbeques.

All the seafood, meats and vegetables served here are specially handpicked by the chef herself every morning ensuring freshness. Meats are marinated in the chef's special marinade that is MSG free but with no compromise on flavours.

Two sets are available if you cannot decide what to choose from the ala-carte menu:

1) Set Moo/ Pork set $39.90- pork collar slice, prawn, fish/pork ball, squid, luncheon meat, hot dog, golden mushroom, tang hoon (vermicelli), xiao bai cai and kang kong.
2) Set Gai/ Chicken set $39.90- boneless chicken, prawn, fish/pork ball, squid, luncheon meat, hot dog, golden mushroom, tang hoon (vermicelli), xiao bai cai and kang kong.

Sauces provided at the side include The Spicy BBQ and Sweet Sour Seafood. My personal favourite was The Spicy BBQ that really packed a punch with all the spices and the 31 different ingredients that went into making it. I topped up my sauce holder at least 4 times because it was just a great match with all the BBQ-ed meats.

Order the Cheese Balls $8 if you get impatient waiting for your food to cook and enjoy that burst of cheese in your mouth as you bite into it. You might want to be careful about burning your tongue in the process as these cheese balls are served piping hot!

MooJaa, Mookata Thai BBQ Steamboat is great comfort food especially with the stormy rainy windy and cold weather in Singapore these days. Dont forget to call your friends and family along! After all, BBQ and steamboat is a whole lot more fun with a huge group!

If you are staying for a place to have good Mookata, MooJaa is the place to go. They have 2 types of chilli but I prefer the one with the yellowish tinge which had a more sourish taste to it.Service was friendly and the staff also helped us to cook the ingredients as there were not much people around when we went. When he saw that we were tying our hair up, he informed us that they do provide hair spray for customers so that they would leave the place with their hair less stinky. Portion and pri

Portion and price wise was comparable to Tom Yum Kungfu but this certainly had more kick with their signature cheese tofu and chewy abalone slices. The meat was marinated well and the soup was sweet and flavourful. The flavour of their thai milk tea was just right and not too sweet.

Because they serve really awesome thai steamboat, there is a buffet option for diners at $32++. Besides the thai steamboat, they also serve ala carte thai food but I highly doubt I will try them as I am already sold by their thai BBQ steamboat.

Unlike Tom Yum Kungfu where they place their steamboat pot directly on the level table, MooJaa has a "hole" in the table where the steamboat pot is being placed inside so the smoke and smell getting to you would be somewhat minimized. The heat would also not get to you and make you feel all sweaty and gross if you sit indoors.

Good news is that MooJaa closes at 6 freaking am so it is definitely a place where you can have a shiok supper! If only I stay near that area.

Quality Control #1 – Binchotan Japanese Charcoal: You know the establishment is serious in its business when they look into quality rather than simply erecting a restaurant just because. You’d first be introduced to their Charcoal. A white, high-quality charcoal from Japan is preferred and used, due to two reasons. (1) It does not result in soot getting into the food and turning it acidic like when black charcoal is used (very commonly seen outside). (2) Binchotan Charcoal does not emit any smoke or unpleasant odors. That translates to you being able to dine knowing very well that the food is not contaminated or have its quality affected.

Now you know what MooJaa means, you have to know what Mookata means as well, haven’t you? It literally means ‘Pork Skillet’ in Thai, but is also known as Pork BBQ. The former refers to its cooking apparatus shown, where you can indulge in both BBQ and hot pot. It’s easy to use. First, you pour the soup into the dome-shaped apparatus. Then you place a cube of pork lard on the tip of the dome. And you’re all set to start the feast! The pork lard serves as a flavor to not only the meat surrounding it, but also the soup, slowly, slowly, as the meal moves forward.

The soup base is brewed for 5 hours. The chicken and pork broth is MSG-free, and starts off really light but still tasty. They also have Tom Yum Soup Base but trust me on this, give a miss on that and stick to the former. Because as you BBQ your meat, the juices that it gives out adds complex flavors to the soup, making it very powerful and flavorful. It was so addictively good toward the end. Be warned though, don’t throw your clams into the soup because it changes the soup base drastically. If you like the flavors of clams like I do, throwing in 5 of it would suffice. Don’t say never ‘wong‘ you.

Quality Control #2 – MooJaa Special Sauces: The sauces here are freshly made on a weekly basis (from up north) so that it doesn’t go stale. Prepared with 30 different ingredients, it is stirred for 6 hours non-stop to prevent it from going charred or burnt. A whole lot of work just for its condiments. Up to your liking, you’re free to ‘marinate’ your own meat with their Spicy BBQ and Sweet Sour Seafood Sauces.

Thai Iced Tea (Cha Yen) ($2.50+): Highly recommended. It’s thirst-quenching, and I like the part where it has a tinge of bitterness to it. Not overpowering for sure, but present to spice the drink up.

Cheese Balls ($8+): Eat it while it’s hot. The cheese ain’t no fake cheapo cheese. It’s flavorsome. I heard once, there was a girl who ordered plates and plates of this. Only. I don’t blame her. Hah.

Ala-Carte Buffet ($32+): If you look at the menu above, it wouldn’t make any sense to eat by way of ala-carte. And if you take a closer look, it’d only make sense if you go there for its Ala-Carte Buffet. I especially like its Hokkaido Scallops, Abalone Slices, Cheese Balls, Pork Collar Slices and Clams.

US Angus Beef Slice / Kuorbuta Pork Collar Slice ($22+): If you get the Ala-Carte Buffet, you are entitled to either a plate of US Angus Beef Slice or Kurobuta Pork Collar Slice (not buffet). After trying both, I’d say go for the latter, even though I’m a huge beef lover. It fell a little short in terms of its marination. I had to smoke it with the sauces myself. But it turned out fine anyway.

Come here for its BBQ Steamboat, not its other mains or desserts, because well, they are after all specialized in the BBQ Steamboat right.

One would always be worried about the smoky smell that gets to your clothes when a steamboat / BBQ trip is brought up. I’m not going to say that you’ll not smell, because you will, still smell. They have just put in effort to manage it better, with a in-table ventilation system – lesser smoke would get to you, that I can assure you. Further, the restaurant is fully air-conditioned.

You can opt for a private room if you are in a party of 6 and above. However, as they only have a couple of rooms, you have to book in advance to secure a room. And it’s not just a day or two in advance; You have to book a week or two before.

My friend said she wanted to treat us to this MooJaa, a Thai-style steamboat at Chinatown area. Her friends recommended her the food here, and so here we are at MooJaa! The food is indeed quite nice but I found the selection very little. It is not those buffet style and so the price I thought was quite expensive. The quantity of the servings is quite small and if you are big eater, then you will need to order a lot. I would prefer if this is a buffet. Something I enjoyed here was the soup base.

Munching through Fried Fish Skin S$6 while waiting on the ‘kata’ to heat up.

I missed a snapshot of the cheese balls, these little molten cheese filled balls were tasty.

Due to longer cooking time, they will be served cooked alongside with the meat platter for munching on.

We had a King Moo Set S$60 (and extra a la carte seafood items) among four of us – that includes US Angus Beef, Beef Slice, Kurobuta Pork, Pork Collar, Pork Belly, Boneless Chicken, Cheese Tofu, Abalone Slice and Crab Meat. Extra a-la-carte items were Squid, Scallop, Prawns, Pork Balls, Mixed Vegetables and Vermicelli.

First round of the meal will be served by the staff where he/she will arrange the ingredients into the ‘steamboat’….see the lardons at the peak of the dome? That is the essence of Thai moo(pork)kata(grill)! This round was grilling the pork and chicken…

We liked that the meat slices came prepared without any heavy marinade, the only flavouring was the lardons grilled throughout the course.

Overall, a fairly quality mookata set indeed.

Good news – if you are feeling peckish past 10pm, this is one of the only few places serving mookata throughout the night until 6am!

There are also Thai cooked dishes here – the usual suspects are Som Tum (green papaya salad), Green Curry, Pad Thai, Pineapple Fried Rice, you name it.

This shop is the obvious choice when it comes to late night meaty supper in town.

Moojaa is another mookata restaurant that is popular among youngsters recently. My friend dragged me to moojaa which is located near Tanjong Pagar/chinatown. They have set moo and set gai, and we ordered the set gai for 2 which costs $45. Portion was quite huge, came with chicken, prawn, pork ball, squid, scallop, golden mushroom, vegetables, etc. Meat was well seasoned, and the place was not as stuffy as other mookata places.

This is my first time trying out the thai steamboat style at mooja. Saw quite a number of good reviews for this restaurant so why not? The queue was quite long when we reached on a weekend dinner, not too sure it they allow reservation, better to call if you are visiting this place next time. Anyway, we waited for quite a bit before we were usher to our seats. Since we are both very hungry, we decided to just go for their buffet dinner. The soup is not filled with MSG, instead it tasted good from the "oil" dripping down from the grill meat on the top. The place is quite noisy and crampy, but for the sake of good food, I couldn't care much about it. Thumbs up!

Instead of coating the BBQ pan with oil/butter, a piece of pork lard was placed at the top center so that the oil will flow down to the sides to bbq other meat.

The fragrance of bbq meat and the sweetness of the soup is heavenly!

The meat are all very well marinated that even a non-pork lover like me found myself reaching for more pork belly.

Lunch: Monday to Friday (11am – 2pm)

Dinner: Monday to Sunday (5pm – 11pm)

Was highly recommend by my colleague and I'm so glad I did! Had the buffer set and its totally worth it! Free flow of drinks and really well seasoned cuts of meat!! Shorthanded but service is very satisfying, the boss manage to explain to us 1 by 1 slowly even thought there's a lots of ppl waiting...Food is good, soup base is fantastic, honestly...Definitely going back again!

Was highly recommend by my colleague and I'm so glad I did! Had the buffer set and its totally worth it! Free flow of drinks and really well seasoned cuts of meat!! My friend said that this restaurant has quite a number of good reviews so we tried it! It's a special kind of steamboat (Thai steamboat) where they use charcoal to heat the up food. The space for the steamboat however is a little cram. We went on a weekday dinner and the buffet cost us about $40 each, with free flow of drinks. The meat is quite fresh and it is more worth it for meat lovers especially those who eat beef.

The AmbianceThe place was pretty simple, with red chairs. Not too bad.The FoodFirst time trying mookata and my first time at Moojaa too. The food variety was good. I love the meat, fried fish skin and meatballs. Had a great time cooking. What made it better is that I did not smell bad after my meal at moojaa.
