average brunch food at rochestor park. if you're looking for brunch options in this area - I'm going to have to point you to graze. this place was really rather meh, with uninspiring food and an ambience that made nothing of its gorgeous surroundings. if the other places around here are packed up, then perhaps you could come here - but otherwise I'm not sure there's any point.

on hindsight (which this is, of course), there was nothing really wrong with the place so much as it was pretty boring. it isn't very expensive, the food wasn't bad - serviceable, really - and the place wasn't run down. it just felt like it had so much more potential to be fantastic! but alas.

the eggs florentine came with its requisite runny yolk and sufficiently smooth hollandaise on toasted crumpets, with a side of dressed salad, and my caesar salad had romaine and a poached egg. I did like the poached egg - but I had taken up the option of chicken, and that came as minuscule pieces that did nothing for the salad.

the desserts fared a little better, with stronger flavours and more impression of skill. the soufflé was sufficiently risen but held no clear hazelnut flavour; I give them kudos for a decent chocolate ice cream though. the platter of three desserts weren't too bad neither: the sticky date pudding was a better rendition than at jones the grocer, the praline a deep and not-too-sweet slice. I thought the pannacotta was the weakest - I can't even remember now what it was.

that's the problem with the meal - it was rather humdrum. I certainly didn't dislike it - I wouldn't raise any issue if someone suggested coming here, but I almost definitely wouldn't be coming back on my own. not too expensive, and we were stuffed at the end of the meal - there's conceivably a mild recommendation hiding somewhere in this if you'd like one.

Had the opportunity to try out a couple of dishes from One Rochester's menu courtesy of an invite from the Rochester group. In general, I thought food was pretty decent but nothing near fantastic except for the Twice Baked Gruyere Souffle, which was cheesy yet creamy with a nice souffle texture. But be sure to share as it might get a little nauseating if consumed in excessive quantities. If I do return, it will definitely be for the souffle. And the lovely alfresco dining ambience of course.

Juicy scallop, more please.
Truffled brie and mascarpone tart - Zucchini tempura, truffle leek compote :
Disappointed with the tempura which is not hot or crispy. The tart is actually puff pastry, top with cheese, tomato slices and the tempura. The leek compote tastes not bad.
Sea bass fillet - Ginger, sauteed mushroom, spinach & almond puree and horseradish :
The fish is fork-tender and juicy inside.
Grain fed Angus - Braised short ribs and glazed beef fillet with caramelised onion compote and bordelaise syrup :
The braised short ribs on top of the carrot puree is very fork-tender. The caramelised onion could have been softer if cooked longer.
Caramel apple cheese cake bars - Eggless caramel cinnamon apple cake bars with toffee sauce :
Multi layers of different textures. The top reminds me of muesli with its dried and chewy texture. Not the usual cheese cake. And a square piece of white chocolate to finish with.
Steamed chocolate and banana pudding - Raspberry sorbetto and vanilla anglaise :
The sorbetto seems to have melted by the time it serves.

I liked the creme brulee & the panna cotta,I could barely eat a few mouthfuls of the rest. , the lime souffle was too sour to a whole new level.
I wouldn’t mind coming back again as food was quite nice
Overall i rate 8/10

Highly recommended for alfresco romantic dinner!

It was our first visit to roast@one rochester therefore we seek recommendation from the staff on menu selection. we picked a full course set which serve from entree till dessert for 2 pax. - ROAST’s communal menu.

first was the Nibble Platter - comprises of herb crumbed stuffed olives, potato skins filled with sour cream & ocean trout caviar, foie gras parfait, a rabbit & pork terrine, slices of ham as well as crudites served with tapenade & a yogurt dip. i love the way they serve it generously on a big plate.

we ordered baby chicken wrapped in prosciutto with pinenut, raisin and truffle stufing, garlice potatoes, quince and pear compote, and Red wine braised wagyu beef brisket with creamy Paris mashed potato and horseradish as our main course. those are in very big potion too!

the dessert - Grande Assiette, was sort of hit and miss, served artistically but it does not compromise a fine-dining standard and it is overly sweet. Somehow the way they presented it nicely on a platter gave us such a beautiful ending to a memorable dining experience.

I ordered the Rose & Cucumber Martini because of this "special" ingredients that I love! >>>> Rose!!! The alcohol level is kinda high or perhaps I shall rephrase... I am a lousy drinker. =/

We begin the meal with... Bread Basket. The bread came warm with french butter and olive oil with balsamic vinegar.

Next serve the Starters.... The 'Nibble' Platter.
Herb crumbed stuffed olives, potato skins with sour cream and ocean trout caviar, radish, tapenade and crudite, foir gras parafait, game terrine, cured hams and pickles.
I only tried the mini potato in this platter and I don't really like it...
The sour cream is too strong for my liking.. :/

Another starter served was the...'Tastes of the East'
Spicy Thai chicken and prawn dip with rice crackers, szechuan salt and pepper soft shell crab, chicken and rabbit skewers, crispy pork crackles, otah on toast
I love this platter! Especially the Crispy Pork Cracker, the Otah & the Spicy Dip!
The Crispy Pork is crusty at the outer layer while the fats melt in my mouth...
Yums!!! =D

There comes the salad.
Tiger Prawn salad with cous cous, promegranate, mint and Persian feta
I must really say that this is one of the BEST salad that I have ever eaten!
The combination of promegrante with the salad, make it a really crunchy-juicy affair!
Definately won the best dish of the night too!!!!
I wish I can have the salad right infront of me now while I am doing this review....

We had 4 main courses to be shared.

Braised Angus short rib with creamy Paris mash Potato and buttered baby carrots
This dish takes more than 24 hours to prepare... (so long!!!)
Most of the diners were raving this dish.
I had a little bite on the meat.
Mmm.. personally, I don't like beef and I guess that's explain why I don't enjoy this dish.
But I am sure this is a MUST ORDER item for beef lover! =)

Baby chicken with pine nut, raisin and truffle stuffing, and cranberry and quince relish
Though the chicken was really tender & juicy, it doesn't leave a deep impression to me.
Perhaps is just me? I doubt I will pay so much to eat a normal tender chicken when I patronise
One Rochester again.

Grilled cod fillet with fennel and blood orange salad
Among all the 4 main courses, I would choose the cod fillet as my favourite!
It's so tender and juicy,it can literally melt in my mouth.
Simple dish but surprisingly AWESOME!

Shellfish risotto with seared langoustine and avruga caviar
By the time, you are reading the review of this dish.
I believe you would more or less knows that I am more of an asian food person.
I hate cheese, cream, beef, lamb, pizza etc. *picky* I have never tried risotto before and this was my first time tasting it.
Hmmm.. it doesn't really suit my taste palette. Too creamy & cheesy...
Definately recommended for someone who is looking for a main course that can filled the stomach.

Despite such a heavy meal, I was eargerly looking forward to the dessert of the night!

First dessert served was the......
Fine apple and franipane tart with calvados ice cream
One Rochester's signature dessert! It comes along with a scoop of alcohol flavoured ice cream. Hot Apple Tart + Cold Alcohol Flavour Ice Cream = Sinfully AWESOME

Grande AssietteThe dessert platter with five petite desserts for sharing. Love their version of Lemon and Lime Soufflé . Their Souffle were heavenly good. It was not too creamy and it's refreshing! I am definately coming back for this!!!! Hehehe..

To me, its always about getting the basics right before going on to conquer greater grounds.

I love their Grilled cod fillet with fennel and blood orange salad which is on the top right hand corner next to the Roast Logo. The chewy affair of the fish together with the caramelized layer on the top gives the cod fillet a must-go.

Their Tiger prawn salad with cous cous, pomegranate, mint and persian feta is fascinating as well (see top left hand corner next to the Roast Logo). This is the first time I encounter pomegranate with prawns. Not just that the prawn is fresh, but put together with the pomegranate, their crunchy-ness is a whole new chapter to the dish.

Their starter, The "Nibble" Platter which includes foie gras parfait, game terrine, is a very non-routine dish. In simple terms, they are goose liver moose and rabbit meat (see photo right below Roast Logo). What a new experience it was. That simple softness of the moose with the exotic taste of the goose liver. That game meat texture on a pastry... its like walking on unchartered grounds in the woods of the Twilight movie.

Their dessert of Grande Assiette , I especially love their coffee creme brulee. Its quality. Period. The coffee bean scent, that tinge of sweetness... Its Perfect~ *MuAcKz!

The drinks... How can the night be complete without them right?
Sequencing from left to right, *Lychee Martini, BMW (Baileys, Martini and Whisky) and Cosmopolitan.

Need I say more?
Go figure ;)

The Grilled Cheese soufle was also excellent. Light, smooth and creamy, it was one dish that I could go back for seconds and thirds.

Very nice experience, with a beautiful ambience and setting in the garden.

The 1-Rochester Group has introduced a new dining concept, Roast, at its One Rochester establishment recently. The brainchild of Chef Christopher Millar, Roast’s main selling point is its new communal menu, which is based on the belief that a delicious meal is even more perfect when shared with loved ones. Remember: Sharing is Caring!

Here’s how the communal menu works ($65++ per person, min of 2 diners): In addition to a nibble platter and desserts, 2-3 persons can select 2 dishes from Pasta & Mains categories; 4-6 persons get 4 dishes; and if there’s 7 or more persons, it’s the full set of dishes on the menu.

The ‘Nibble’ Platter is such a clever idea to start the meal with. There’s herb crumbed stuffed olives, foie gras parfait, pork & rabbit terrine, prosciutto, and raw veg crudités with a thick and rich olive tapenade for dipping.

I personally vouch for those moreish little potato skins! Filled with sour cream and ocean trout caviar (which pops in the mouth, awesome), they have “eat me!” written all over them.

This is one of the chef’s recommendations for salads: Tiger prawn salad with cous cous, mint and Persian feta. I don’t really fancy lettuce but this is a nice combination, especially with gems of pomegranate adding a dash of colour and sweetness to liven it up.

We had differing views on the smoked sea urchin risotto. I thought it’s a tad undercooked; she thought it’s perfect and practically polished off the whole dish by herself. A matter of personal preference, I suppose. But the plump and succulent seared king scallops had us nodding in agreement.

My favourite tonight (after those killer potato skins) is the roasted cod fillet. Simple with no surprises, but not boring either as it’s so tender and juicy. I particularly like the fennel, blood orange and pistachio salad too, which goes very well with the fatty fish.

Consistent with the theme of communal dining, the ‘Grande Assiette‘ is a selection of 5 petite desserts meant for sharing.
