Ootoya is famous for its fried stuff, and I decided to try the tonkatsu - deep fried pork cutlet. The sauce was quite special, they provided a small grinder and sesame seeds for you to grind, to be added into the sauce for the pork cutlet. Grew up eating Japanese desserts thus am quite particular with the rice flour dumplings, matcha ice cream and the red bean. I am allergic to beans as well, but somehow the Japanese ones dont give me bad rashes. Happy to find that Ootoya has decent desserts after my favorite restaurant at Circular Road has closed down. Appreciate the matcha jelly is real and not some weird agar agar taste. And i love this branch as its not as crowded for a good quiet alone-time-dinner.…查看更多

I love patronizing Ootoya Japanese Restaurant. When i get to know that there is another branch located at Suntec City, i decided to give it a try.It is accessible through nearest MRT station- Esplanade Station and a short walking distance. It is located at the basement water fountain area.Normally when i patronize the restaurant, i will order the main course for my lunch or dinner. This time round is quite different because I ordered dessert! We were supposed to wait for friend to have proper dinner. The desserts were surprising as good as it looks. Simply sweet and delicious!Zenzai Milk S$6.00 which contains rice flour dumplings with red beans and peanut crush. As you know japanese red bean taste sweeter than ours and it goes extremely well with the dumplings and very chewy as well. Closer look of the dumplings. There are big and Q.Warabimochi S$7.00 which includes jelly balls with sweet red bean, soybean flour and peanut crush. The jelly is very Q and it goes very with the ice-cream. The cold ice-cream combination with the jelly balls mixed well into your taste buds.I would say that the standard of Ootoya is quite consistent and it does not disappoint me and my friends. I love this vegetable dish alot as not only I can enjoy the goodness from the different types of nutritions which I can obtain from the spinach, but also at the same time taste the black beans which are cooked in it, which I have never eat from elsewhere. The black beans are quite big in size, but they are quite soft and easy to chew. Infact, they are also not too salty and blend in really well with the spinach. Despite their specialty dish being Tonkatsu, none of us ordered the dish. Instead, we tried to pick dishes that seemed to be more healthy.There was a coupon that was available outside which would give you a free drink. I would really advise against getting the milk tea. Perhaps because the drinks are free, their quality of drinks were really not up to standard. Please stick with the Ochya if you're paying for the drinks.The grilled chicken salad was a good choice though. The sauce was perfect, tasty, and was light at the same time. They should really try to highlight and sell this dish more.The fish presentation looked almost exact to the menu that was given to us.
