Original Sin is a Mediterranean Vegetarian restaurant located at Chip Bee Gardens less than 2 minutes walk from Holland Village MRT (exit A) station. The restaurant offers both alfresco and indoor (air-conditioned) dining. As we made reservations, we decided to sit indoors as the weather was scorching hot these days. In addition, we did not want to feed the mosquitoes. We visited during lunch time on a Saturday. During lunch hours, they had Set Lunch available during lunch hours. The set lunch consist of a Starter (choice of Soup of the Day/Green Salad), Mains and Dessert at $26. All of us ordered the set lunch. Minestrone Soup (Soup of the Day)Most of us including myself ordered chose the Soup of the Day as our Starter. The Soup of the Day was Minestrone Soup. The soup was full of ingredients such as carrot, cabbage, tomato, spaghetti, etc. The soup itself was not well balanced in taste, I felt that it was a tad too sour and something seems to be lacking. Green SaladA friend of mine ordered the Green Salad.SpaghettiFor mains, I ordered Spaghetti which was cooked with zucchini, olive, cherry tomato, tossed in tomato basil sauce and parmesan cheese. The chef executed this dish quite well. What was lacking was that they could have been more generous with some of the ingredients such as zucchini. Tofu BurgerMy friend ordered the Tofu Burger which was served with wedges and salad greens. This was a hit among us; in a league of its own. Tofu BurgerThe Tofu Burger consisting of tofu and lentil pattie was surprisingly tasty. Although the patty was soft and crumbled easily, we love it! The potato wedges which came with potato skin was also nicely done. In addition, the entire dish was not soggy. Mediterranean WrapThe Mediterranean Wrap which was essentially tortilla wrap filled with chickpea and pumpkin spread, grilled eggplant, feta and salad was a dish which most of us did not appreciate. The main reason was because we were not a fan of chickpea which had a unique taste and smell.Warm Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice CreamFor desserts, we had Warm Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream. The chocolate cake was a tad too dry. The molten dark chocolate that flowed out from the centre of the cake was rich and dense. It was so good that it made the chocolate cake seems inferior. The set lunch made the meal more affordable compared to the ala carte menu. However, one should still note that even with the set lunch, at $26++, this is not exactly cheap. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable meal.Original Sin (Holland Village)Blk 43 #01-62 Jalan Merah Saga Holland VillageChip Bee Gardens Singapore 278115Tel: 6475 5605Opening Hours: Daily 1130am - 230pm & 6pm - 1030pmWebsite .6475 .6475 56055605.6475 5605View FoodieFC's Singapore Food Map in a larger map 繼續閱讀

Original Sin the first vegetarian Mediterranean restaurant in Singapore has been around for 14 years since 1997. Chef Michael Hadley from Michelangelo together with co-owner Chef Marisa Bertocchi created the concept of Original Sin and since then never look back. This is really quite an achievement for a vegetarian restaurant in the current F&B scene where restaurants opened and closed in a couple of years. The colorful salad garden, Principessa ($18) has an eclectic mix of roasted pumpkin, avocado, asparagus, tomato, french beans and boccocini, all mingled in a bed of mixed lettuces and dressed in a light balsamic vinaigrette that was subtle and unassuming. The Basilico ($13) is homemade herb bread with creamy goat cheese, char grilled eggplant and roasted capsicum and rocket leaves. The bruschetta has a nice balanced of flavours that will whet your appetite. The Eggplant and Parsnip Fritters ($16) drizzled with zesty house mayo was rather simple with a light batter but was surprisingly quite delectable with a nice exterior crisp. This is my first time having parsnip and I thought the texture is quite similar to potato, very enjoyable. The Haloumi ($18) which is usually made from a mixture of goat's milk and sheep's milk was nicely pan fried and served on a bed of salad greens, roasted capsicum, lentil, cucumber and mint salad. Due to its high melting point, the haloumi is ideal to be served pan fried or grilled giving it a nice texture and alternate way to enjoy cheese. The Mezze Platter ($22/$30) reminds me of a similar dish I had at Blu Kouzina. The Middle Eastern platter served with Falafal balls and Pita Bread comes with Hummus Chick Pea, Aromatic Pumpkin and Carrot, Eggplant Baba Ganoush and Yogurt Tzatziki dips. My favourite is the pumpkin and carrot dip.The Magic Mushroom ($18) which is baked portobello mushroom with ricotta cheese, spinach, pesto, topped with a tomato basil sauce and mozzarella was simply magical. The medley of rich flavours with the earthy mushroom magically sent the mouth blooming with wonderful flavours. I will definitely go back for this. This is another must try dish at Original Sin. The Bosco Misto ($26) is like 2 beef patties stacked on top of each other but this is the vegetarian version made of spinach, feta and tofu coated with crushed almonds and sesame seeds, asparagus and a button mushroom plum sauce. Being a meat lover, I was actually very satisfied and content. I didn't feel I missed out any meatThe Lasanga ($26) comes with baked layers of pasta sheets filled with button mushroom, spinach, onion, zucchini, capsicum, tomato, mozzarella and fresh basil topped with shaved parmesan. I couldn't help digging into the melange of beautiful flavours.By now I am already very impressed with the creativity of Chef Marisa Bertocchi. She definitely has bring vegetarian food to a new level. Cooked to perfection, the Porcini ($26) was exquisitely executed. The creamy white wine sauce also married the pasta beautifully, bringing the whole dish together.Original Sin not only serves delish starters and mains, they also have a decent selection of desserts. I tried the Chocolate Brownie, Apple Crumble, Tiramisu and Hazelnut Chocolate Cake. All desserts are priced at $10 and were pretty good. My favourite was the tiramisu and hazelnut chocolate cake.Being able to stand tall for the past 14 years, Original Sin has tapped on a niche segment of the market and brings vegetarian to a whole new level with its creativity. Vegetarian food is no more boring and even better than many non vegetarian food. Price can be on the high side but you are paying for the quality.Full review and more pictures at www.sgfoodonfoot.com 繼續閱讀

We added on a basket of garlic bread for $4. Just nice there were 4 pieces of bread. The bread looked almost burnt andthe charred taste was stronger than the garlic itself. My dad's main course was the greek salad. A really large load of vegetables right there. He disliked the olives which were rather sour and the feta cheese. (He is not a fan of cheese.)My mum's main course was the spaghetti with basil pesto sauce. She liked the dish although there were no meat as theseasonings were tasty enough. My bro's main course was the tofu burger. (Why tofu? This is a vegetarian restaurant if you have forgotten!) It came with potato wedges, salad and a dip. The patty was full of tofu and potato taste and was rather yummy. As for me, I had the mediterranean wrap. It was a scary load of vegetables when I first caught sight of it being placed right in front of me. No meat fan would want to eat that. It would be a torment. As for me, I do not mind trying it out. I bit my first mouthful and o...it tasted not bad and I am not kidding. The feta cheese gave taste to it, while the chickpea and pumpkin spread within made the wrap not so dry. Each mouthful was crunchy (because of the variety of vegetables inside) and at the end, I was full and satisfied. Each of us had dessert and a hot cup of tea or coffee. The dessert was brownie with a scoop vanilla of ice cream. Soft brownie was always one of my favourite dessert, especially those that do not make my saliva too sticky after eating it. 繼續閱讀

This dish is simply divine! It's made of egg tagliatelle, porcini and button mushrooms, sautéed with onion, white wine, fresh thyme and a touch of cream, topped with shaved parmesan. The combination of these ingredients is absolutely fantastic! The mushroom is juicy and well-seasoned. Also, the tagliatelle seems to slurp up all the sauce and tastes wonderful. It's not exactly a creamy sauce but does have a rich and creamy texture to it, which I adore! It's a must try dish if you visit Original Sin! It costs $26, not exactly cheap but worth a try once in a rare while. 繼續閱讀

I tried the dish called Spanakopita. It's described as baked ricotta, spinach, feta and filo pastry served with grilled portobello and mixed vegetable ratotouille. The mixed vegetable ratotouille is really pretty good as it had the richness of the cheese but honestly, at this price, it's certainly not something I can afford too often cos the portion is not filling! 繼續閱讀
