At $240 for two people (for dinner) prices aren't cheap at all ... but you could also say "osteria mozza is a lot cheaper than any other of the top 10 restaurants in singapore" and sort of deceive yourself that it's reasonable

If you are a fan of the world-renowned iron chef Mario Batali, Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza are the places you should head to. Mozza, Batali's (together with Nancy Silverton and Joe Bastianich) first venture into Asia is exactly similar as they are in California, hosting two top notch restaurants under one roof.

Recommended by one of my buddies, I decided to give a little surprise by bringing my significant other, Peiyi to Pizzeria Mozza for her 22nd birthday dinner after a pampering pedicure and manicure at Marina Square (with a surprise cake from her friends).

Different from their classy counterpart Osteria, Pizzeria Mozza has a more vibrant and noisy ambience. Asked by the reception staff whether we mind getting the counter seats else we had to wait, we decided to go for the counter, where a full view of the pizza chefs working their magic unfold before us. Since most of the items on their awesomely-designed menu are foreign to me, I requested one of the friendly service staff to recommend some food items.

We had their insalate (salad), Nancy's Chopped Salad (S$20.00) - a creation by one of the founders, Nancy Silverton who was also awarded the prestigious Pastry Chef of the Year by the James Beard Foundation. The salad consists of basic greens, red onions, cherry tomatoes, garbanzo beans, drizzled with oregano vinaigrette. It has an interesting combination of flavours and textures, but overall, the salad is a tad too sour for my liking. Another downside is the price, usually I do not order salad as their cost price is less than a few bucks, moreover twenty is definitely overpriced.

Pizzeria Mozza's Wednesday Special: Pesce al Forno (S$34.00) is wrapped in radicchio and salsa verde. It has a slight sourness which complements the sweet taste of the fish. Meat is soft and tender, no less flavourful. Definitely one of the must tries here.

Pizzeria Mozza is well-known for its pizza prepared and cooked using the traditional oven. And of course we had to order one of their speciality pizzas - Nettles, egg, Salame Gentile & Caciocavallo (S$30.00). People, especially kiasu Singaporeans love thin-crusted pizzas, because it comes with more toppings. But unlike any of your usual pizzas, this has a greater crust to ingredients ratio. Turning you off already? Let me tell you, that the pastry used is created by the celebrity chefs that founded Mozza, this thick crust is tasteful and so crispy, yet fluffy on the interior. Matched with the crunchy and nettles (I have officially fallen in love for these almighty leaves), salami, top-grade cheese and finished with a runny sunny-side up, three words - Best Pizza Ever.

It is needless to think whether I am re-visiting Pizzeria Mozza again, but I would really love to try out the classy Osteria Mozza. In total, it is a well-spent S$100 out of my pocket. Definitely will be back for other speciaility pizzas!

The banana gelato pie: hot fudge and candied hazelnuts is one of the must try desserts. Not very popular among the girls. Next, we also had butterscotch budino: Maddon sea salt & rosemary pine nut biscotti - my favourite - was so glad that nobody liked it as its too sweet for them

Lastly we had caramel copetta: marshmallow sauce & salted peanuts - definitely a favorite among the 7 girls as i am allergic to peanuts.

Just saw in the restaurant description that they brought it to "Loz Angeles", but it's actually SINGAPORE! We ordered a 3-piece chicken, topped with delicious sauces. It cost $18 (i.e: $6 per piece). It wasn't very filling to be shared among 3 of us, although it looks quite huge as a portion and all. There was ample meat and the skin was crispy and a refreshing taste!

We also had vegetable leeks with bacon, topped with their restaurant's secret recipe sauce. It was quite zesty and the bacon was stripped off all fats so it was extremely satisfying to know that you're sort of eating healthily? *grins*

The best has yet to come! We ordered a Fresh goat cheese, leeks, scallions, garlic and bacon pizza, A DEFINITELY MUST-TRY. This was quite expensive though, about $20+, but we are paying for the experience and the authentic taste.

There isn't a dress code though, so not to worry.

First impression was the restaurant was really dark. Some might have difficulty reading the menu. Menu seems to be quite exhaustive, so do ask the friendly staff if spoilt by the number of choices you have.

For appetizer, I had Crispy Pigs Trotter with Frisee, Apple and Mustard. That was served croquette style. The outside was nice and crisp, and yet not too oily. The inside was really soft and flavourful. The meat was really well done . Serving was really small though.

From the Mozarella Bar, we had Burricotta with Radicchio, Spiced Walnuts, Honey and Fried Rosemary. The cheese was just right and needs to be slowly chewed for one to appreciate it, blends in perfectly with the toast.

For first course, we had Tagliatelle with Oxtail Ragu. It was tomato-based. There was an overwhelming taste. It might be personal preference but I didn't really like it. Also, the pasta was a little overcooked and soggy.

For second course, we had Grilled Leg of Lamb with fregola sarda, mint and yoghurt. The lamb was succulent and tender. Serving was much more generous for this.

For side, we had Grilled Japanese Eggplant with Mint and Yoghurt. The grilled eggplant was done just right, loved it a little charred. It was still soft and juicy, and literally melts in your mouth. It tastes even better when sampled with the yoghurt.

The first thing that greeted me was an envelope on the dining table from Pizzeria Mozza. This is interesting and unique to me. In the envelope was exactly your cutlery and serviette.

I had the Bruschette Ciccioli for the starter. The Ciccioli had a taste of saltiness (properly from the aging) when eaten with the crispy toasted bread was a good combination of flavour and texture.

The best try here is definitely the pizza! It is one of the best pizzas I have eaten and the price range of $20-$28 for a pizza is quite affordable considering this a celebrity chef restaurant. I can't wait to go back to try to the rest of the pizzas in the menu.

The pizzas were unique with its extra large crust and shape. I tried both the Stracchino and Burrata pizzas. Both pizzas were distinctly differently in flavours but they were so good that I cannot judge each was better.

The Pizzeria side is casual (you could bring kids and not feel out of place) as well as reasonably priced. We paid about $80 for dinner for 2 consisting of 1 pizza, 1 salad, and 2 cocktails.

Pizza: There are so many tempting choices, but we settled on one with goat cheese, bacon, garlic, and scallions. It was salty and sinfully fatty (how pizza should be!), and the crust was really crisp and chewy. It was hard to eat it with a knife and fork it's so chewy. I loved it, but my boyfriend wasn't a fan - he prefers a softer, doughy crust.

Salad: We order the basic insalata mista. The greens were fresh and crisp, but I found the dressing to be really sour. I wasn't a fan.

Pizzeria Mozza is deservingly popular, and you'll probably want a reservation. Dining here was an impulse on a Sunday afternoon exploring MBS, and we were able to make a reservation later that night by just stopping by and talking to the staff. It wasn't the best seat in the house by any means (we started off at the counter, then moved to a high table near the entrance), but was good enough for a quick pizza dinner

Pizzaeria Mozza is a lovely place in Marina Bay Sands with great pizza and beautiful desserts. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with a homely interior, lots of wood and interesting menus. Dining room with dim light does look pretty appealing if I was ever in the mood. But the seating was abit too uncomfortable and near to each other.
