The stall was located in the coffeeshop, and offered a variety of kuehs. The Ang Ku Kueh (S$1/ pc) were in a variety of flavours : Red Bean (orange), Green Tea (pale green), Salted Bean (grey), Durian (dark yellow), Peanut (red), Yam (purple), Mango (pale yellow), Black Sesame, Coconut (green), Green Bean (red). I personally like the yam version as it reminded one of the traditional yam paste dessert. The skin was chewy and did not turn hard even after left on the table for a whole day.Abacus (S$8.50)A traditional Hakka dish, with balls made of yam, stirred fried with mushrooms, garlic and shallots. The version here was great as one really can taste the yam in it.Not forgetting its Soon Kueh (S$1), Ku Cai Kueh (S$1), Bamboo Shoot Kueh (S$1.30) which came in slightly translucent coloured and chewy skin. The bamboo shoot version was quite a rare find and came stuffed with strips of bamboo shoots in it. 繼續閱讀

Poh Cheu sells many kinds of handmade kuehs such as Ang Ku Kueh, Soon kueh, Png kueh, Ku Chai Kueh, Bamboo shoot kueh, Abacus seeds & glutinous rice. There are different fillings of Ang Ku Kueh ($0.80 each) like Yam, Durian, Peanut, Green tea, salted tau sar, Sesame, mango etc. My favourite filling is Peanut. It is very yummy with chunks of peanut bits & the sweetness is just nice to my liking. The Ku Kueh skin is soft, sticky & chewy. Salted bean filling is very yummy too.Soon kueh ($0.80 each) are very tasty also with generous turnip fillings. Png kueh fillings are mainly glutinous rice with mushroom, dried shrimps & peanuts. The glutinous rice is of the right texture with a delightful softness & fragrance. It goes well with the usual thick black sauce & their special chilli sauce. The abacus seeds are moulded into bite sized then boiled before stir-fried with ingredients like mushroom & dried shrimps to give it the desirable taste. It is then garnished with dried shallots & chopped coriander before served. This is my first time eating abacus seeds & I must really give a thumb up.Overall all their kueh are really superb! We really love it except the long queue 繼續閱讀

yay to a visit to poh cheu! but nay. to not having what i really wanted.I wanted to grab me some of those bamboo shoot kuehs. they are one of the last few traditional kueh stores around that make these soon kuehs with bamboo shoot fillings. so i settled for second best. the soon kueh with turnip. it's all handmade. the outer rice skin down to the fillings that are fried at the stall fresh every morning. now what;s the difference? the bamboo shoots are crunchier and have a much nicer bite. They also cost 20 cents more per piece. Otherwise, this one is also full on fillings, replacing bamboo shoot with shredded turnip and the rest is all the same, shredded red carrots and black fungus. mmm!drizzle on their sweet black sauce and a dollop of chilli paste to boot. simple and so satisfying. 繼續閱讀

Have you been to Poh Cheu at Blk. 127 Bukit Merah Lane, stone throw away from Alexandra Village lately?Poh Cheu has a new setup a few doors away at Unit 01-222 from the current outlet. Bigger and more spacious. In fact the whole shop to themselves. They are not able to commence business at this new outlet yet because they were not able to recruit more staff at the moment. I spoke to the lady who took my orders to reconfirm that they have a new outlet and she told me that its almost ready but lack of manpower. Also coming up with a few new snacks at the new shop. I hope to see it up and going by my next visit and try new snacks at the same time.Best Award by Green Book for 2013/2014.Famous for their handmade Ang Ku Kueh and Soon Kueh , Glutinous Rice, Abacus, Rice Cake, Yam Kueh etc .Standard of food remain unchanged. Queue still the same especially during peak hours. When I arrived at the coffesshop there were about ten people ahead of me and it takes about 25 minutes before my order. Our family usual selections are green bean, salted bean and peanut paste Ang Ku Kueh. Also a packet of rice cakes at S$6.50 for tomorrow's breakfast which I will pan fry until the skin is crispy.Currently the ten selections of flavours for their Ang Ku Kueh at 80 cents per piece namely green bean, salted bean, green tea, mango, red bean, coconut, black sesame, durian, yam and peanut.Wish you guys new developments and see you soon at the new outlet. 繼續閱讀
