Prego Pizza ($38++)
Mozzarella, Ham, Mushroom, Parmesan, Sundried Tomato, Fresh Cream
The pizza crust was thin and crispy, and cut easily. Although it looked thin, the filling was just nice.

Agnolotti di Vitello al Sugo d' Arrosto ($36++)
Confit Veal Ravioli, Veal Glace, Whipped Truffle Cream
The dish smelt quite nice of truffle. The ravioli was a tab hard. The filling was meaty and went quite well with the sauce.

The place was packed during lunch. We did not wait long for the food to be served, although I wish that the water was refilled more often.

If one did not like the spread, there was also olive oil and vinegar available at the table. I was kind of disappointed that the bread was not served warm.

We started the meal with Antipasti :

Vine Ripened Tomato, Buffalo Mozzarella, Basil, White Balsamic Vinaigrette
Simple but appetizing dish to start with.

Prosciutto di Parma (usual $24++)

The sweet juicy melon was balanced by the salty ham.

For the Primi Piatti :

Penne Carbonara (usual $32++)
Crispy Pork Pancetta, Fresh Cream, Egg, Parmesan
The dish was rich and creamy. I was sightly disappointed in the Crispy Pork Pancetta which turned out to be just fried bacon pieces.

Crabmeat, Asparagus, Sundried Tomatoes, Creamy Sauce
There was chunks of crab meat which I like. The sundried tomatoes did not have much flavour in this dish. Disappointed.

Next we had the Chef Daily Special which turned out to be Roasted Chicken. The chicken was quite tender. But both of us were too full for it.

Lastly for dessert :

Panna Cotta (usual $14++)

The dessert was milky and creamy, served with pieces of strawberry and kiwi.

Lemon Sorbetto (usual $14++)
It was lemony and refreshing to taste. There was crumbles under the scoop which balanced the sour taste. The single scoop was topped with juicy berries.

Overall the food was not bad but the serving was too much for 2 females and we could not finish them. We were full after having the pasta dishes. Audrey had the roasted chicken take-away as she could not eat anymore. I felt that the standard of the pasta dishes had dropped alot when compared to my previous visit. As the restaurant was crowded, it was very difficult to get the attention of the staffs available. Water was not refilled until we were able to get the attention of the staffs to do so.

The service is still good and friendly, and the ambience is still laid-back and non-pretentious for a good-class Italian restaurant serving decent Italian fare. Hearty diners crowd the cosy, brightly-lit classic family-style trattoria.
The three of us shared three mains - the first being the Tagliolini Al Nero - squid ink tagliolini, roasted tiger prawns, garlic and chilli in tomato sauce. The tagliolini was very springy in texture, and the sapid flavor of sour-sweet tomato was prominent. There were at least five very succulent and fresh tiger prawns, shelled and sweet for us to savor. This was truly a keeper.
Next, we had the Penne Tartufate - wild mushrooms and truffle cream sauce. Do not be fooled by the seemingly plain-looking pasta dish - the cream sauce was very delicious and rich, and of course the salient flavor of mushrooms was duly noted. The penne was cooked to a perfect texture that was neither too hard nor soft, as well.

Decided to give Prego another chance after a less than desirable lunch a couple of months back. It also helped that there was a 50% reduction in the bill courtesy of the FAR card. The interior hasn't changed much, with the decor revolving around the use of wood. Whilst I like the abundant sunlight peering in from the floor to ceiling windows and the space the place affords, I can't help but compare it to a buffet/mass market restaurant - hardly befitting an Italian outfit in my humble opinion.

But I digress.

Complimentary Bread -This was probably one of the worst complimentary bread I've ever had in an Italian restaurant. 4 trips to Prego in 6 months and I'm still unable to consume more than a mouthful.

Capesante in Crosta - This sounded really good on paper - Scallops coated with cheese and baked till golden brown and served with a mildly sweet pumpkin puree. Unfortunately the combination didn't quite work out. The scallops were smallish and the fishiness didn't quite jell with the cheesiness of the Parmesan nor the sweetness from the pumpkin. Nauseating to say the least, especially if you consume more than 1 piece. Well, at least the earthy taste from the truffle oil was noticeable.

Strozzapreti - The Strozzapreti was akin to a rounder version of the Chinese board noodles (板面); all clumped together with a rather soft texture. Served in a very rich tomato sauce with mushrooms and minced Italian pork sausages. Palatable but probably not something I would order again.

Risotto Frutti Di Mare - The hands down, best dish of the afternoon - the seafood risotto. Al dente with a nice creamy consistency. Only issue I had was with the seafood, which was quite generous but lacked taste (probably frozen). Prawns were crunchy though.

After a 50% discount, lunch for the both of us came up to about $58, which isn't exactly value for money, considering how pedestrian the food was. Food quality seems to have dipped over the years and unless it picks up, this will be my 10th (though I only blogged about 5) and last visit.

When one first enters the Italian Trattoria at the posh hotel's level one, they'd be struck by surprise at how simple and unostentatious the decor is - simple wooden furniture and an airy space of vibrant sophistication typical of an authentic Italian restaurant. The genial ambience warms one instantly, and the service crew is always friendly and polite.

Passing by the front of the restaurant, there is a huge display of Antipasti to tempt the diners - wide selection of cheese and Italian cured meats. We couldnt resist, and had to select some cheese assortment to kickstart a good, old-fashioned Italian meal.

I never understood what the fuss over Prego's bread was, until now. Huge and soft, served with an accompaniment of dips on the table to eat with (the dips consist of basil tomato, ricotta cheese with caramelized onion and ricotta cheese with black truffle) - it was a great start that we polished with relish.

Next, the King Prawn Risotto - jumbo marinated king prawns nestled on a bed of bright yellow, richly-flavored stracciatella embracing the delicious arborio rice. The harmony of different flavors was amazing - and the bouncy freshness of the prawns added to the enjoyment of this palatable rice dish.

Next we have Risotto Frutti di Mare ($36) it is a mixture of sauteed seafood. Strong seafood smell with fresh seafood being served in creamy sauce. For people whom like cream base will be perfect as it is a love it or hate it dish to be consume while is hot!

Lastly we have Anatra ($38) it is roasted duck with, Cilantro. duck gravy, red onion and ricotta cheese combination pizza. Generous duck meat is found and it tasted just like peking duck and it is unique in a way which is different from the usual pizza that we always had like tomato sauce on it as the gravy is replace instead and the gravy is sweet! Awesome!

When you bite into it, you will find that this is less chewy and mildly sticky. The sauce is spicy tomato but I tasted only tomato and no spiciness.

Indulge in an authentic Italian gastronomic journey together with Chef de Cuisine Antonio Facchinetti, as he presents a feast of 40 of his favorite dishes, all inspired by his beloved hometown in Milan and travels around the world. Bringing only the most rustic and traditional of Italian dishes to the table, every item on the list of 40 is a gem waiting to be discovered and savored.

And if that was not tempting enough, this semi-buffet allows you to tuck into the freshest of seafood, gorgeous Italian antipasti and an array of desserts at your own discretion and pleasure. But I'd say go easy, because you really want to keep space to try as many of the 40 dishes as you can. They are after all, an ensemble of Chef Antonio's signatures, made with heartfelt Italian warmth.

And with summer in full force at this time of the year, the vine-ripened cherry tomatoes are at their finest as well- red, juicy and flavorful. Paired with the quintessential mozzarella and couple of fragrant young basil leaves, the simplest but yet the most charming Caprese Salad is plated.

Moving on to the the mains handcrafted by Chef Antonio himself...

All dishes have been scaled down to tasting portions so that you can try more items on the list!

Grilled Jumbo King Prawn, French Beans, Raw Pizzaiola Sauce (supplement $20)

Succulent, juicy and simply bursting out of their shells after grilling, these Jumbo King Prawns were an exuberant picture not to be missed. Granted that the supplement of $20 might be a tad pricey, the sweet firm flesh of this upsized crustacean is worth the occasional splurge.

Roasted Pork Belly, Baked Vegetables

My first time trying an Italian inspired roasted Pork Belly and it did bear a striking resemblance to the ones the Chinese and French usually make. But who can fault a crackling skin with a layer of melt-in-your-mouth fat that tastes this good? My arteries will probably make me regret a few years down the road but right now, my taste buds marveled with satisfaction.

Sooooo gooood....

Between the two of us, we only managed to try 7/40 of the dishes because we wanted to get our hands on those dainty pastries and sweets with amazing intricate details. The milkshake station too proved to be a hit along with the gelato counter so let yourself go and try all the desserts!

Prego Restaurant at Swissotel is spacious and bright. You will feel good about this place when you walk in here. We are served with the herbs bagel before the meal. Nice and soft. Squid Ink Tagliolini ($34) is cooked in tomato based sauce, which is something different. The sauce is rich and appetizing, with lots of fresh seafood. Clam Vongole ($34) on the other hand, is too bland. The wine or seafood flavour is not distinct enough. For that price, I reckon I could expect more on the food quality

I haven't been back to Prego ever since their revamp and I thought that it would be good to pop by for lunch one day since the lacklustre Italian food at Bintan had me fixated on the notion of devouring a good pizza. And I was definitely hoping Prego would help with that.

Honestly, the interior didn't spot as massive a makeover as I had expected. Everything looked pretty much the same save for a deli counter which I took a fancy to as it did seem quite quaint with tons of food stuff hanging all over. A pity I wasn't quite interested in what it had to offer.

Complimentary Bread - Things got off to a great start with the complimentary bread, which came with a jar of what seemed like cream cheese with olive oil pesto. Delicious but the bread was a little too hard for my liking and could have been served warm for a better dining experience.

Mushroom Soup - The mushroom soup was part of the set lunch which was priced at $43++ for 3 courses (soup, main & dessert). To be honest, it was really fragrant from the woody aroma of the mushroom as well as the truffle oil. However, I did find it a little runny and the physical mushroom bits sorely lacking.

Pan Seared Seabass - This fish smelt and tasted a little too fishy for my liking. And there was too much olive oil as well. Definitely not my cup of tea. The substantial leftovers spoke volumes.

Mushroom Pizza - I don't quite remember the exact name of this pizza but it had bacon, wild mushrooms, egg, cheese on a light yet chewy hand pulled crust that was neither thick (think American style) nor thin (Italian style). A most welcoming compromise if you are dining with folks from both camps. I personally found the pizza quite good, with the ingredients relatively generous and melding well together. As an icing on the cake, the cheese was gooey and not the least bit overwhelming.

Tiramisu - The set lunch had this dessert as an option but ordering ala carte will nett you a slightly bigger portion (as per what you see in the picture above). But either way, presentation was sorely lacking - both servings of tiramisu looked like a mess . Taste wise was quite decent though. Light mascarpone cheese complementing the moist sponge which had an almost non existent alcohol taste and topped with what seemed like almond crumbles.

With a 50% discount, lunch for the both of us hovered around the 50 dollar mark, which was very reasonable for the amount of food we had - 2 mains, 1 soup and 2 desserts. However, I wouldn't say that food quality was top notch. It's decent at best and service honestly wasn't up to the mark. Our waiter seemed a little aloof and unapproachable. In short, we felt ostracized. Let's hope service picks up if I ever do return.

It was a close friend’s 21st birthday and we decided to surprise her with a nice cake. I suggested we get it from prego as many friends recommended me the cake. It was indeed delicious. we ordered the mango mousse. You can totally taste the richness of the mango flavor. The cake was moist and spongy. The mousse is simply melt in the mouth. The cake was not too sweet as well. It was really an indulgence!

Strategically located at the corner of bustling Bras Basah and Beach Roads, delight in a hearty Italian dinner whilst people-watching. One must try it’s signature dessert- The Tiramisu.

I decided to had the February Executive 2 course set lunch priced at $45++ . There is only a choice of salad and 3 main courses available.

Complimentary Bread

It was just an ordinary bread roll but it taste terrific with the home-made tomato sauce & olive oil. This is a favourite and popular with the customers here.

Insalata Di Pollo

It is basically a salad with grilled chicken breast, mesclun, cherry tomatoes, cheese , balsamic vinegrette and olive oil. The portion is just too small and sadly, the grilled chicken breast taste bland and flat. Perhaps I am biased against chicken meat but this fared badly. I left the thin chicken pieces untouched.

Fettuccine con panna funghi e Piselli

This was my main course. The other 2 choices were beef and rabbit meat which I do not really prefer thus I decided to have the pasta. The Fettuccine pasta comes with mushrooms and green peas with cream sauce but I requested them to remove the green peas and replaced by vegetables. However, they merely add in more mushrooms. I asked them and they told me it wouldn’t taste good if other vegetables were used.The mushrooms were ok, chewy and flavourful. The cream sauce was a little heavy so I requested for some home-made tomato sauce to cover it.

My verdict: Overpriced! I paid around $52 for the above 2 dishes ,the serving was so small and they are simple dishes that anybody could simply whip up at home. Definately not worth the hefty price tag.
