We were lucky to get a plate of freshly fried Char Kway Teow which one could taste the wok hei in it. Remember to help yourself the crispy pork lards. Accompanied the meal with Teh Tarik which tasted not bad at first but felt watered down after having the heavy stuffs. The manager said said that the restaurant used to served Teh Halia (Ginger Tea) but replaced it with Teh Tarik after feedback from customers.

There was a number of live stations for Hokkien Mee Thng, Penang Laksa, Kway Teow Thng, Ark Thui Mee Sua Thng, Kueh Pie Tee, Popiah, and Ban Chang Kueh. The broth for the Hokkien Mee Thng was quite rich and flavourful. The Penang Laksa was not bad but the broth was not spicy and sour enough for local Penang taste. The Ban Chang Kueh was light and crispy even after left on the table for quite sometimes. It was made freshly by an old auntie who looked old enough to be my grandma.

There was also rare local dishes such as Char Moey and Nasi Ulam which were rare to find these days, but the porridge was lacking of wok hei taste, while the other latter was kind of bland. The Pig Stomach Soup was full bodied and peppery without offending smell or taste from the meat.

For dessert, the freshly scooped Tau Huay with Gula Melaka was smooth with kind of an old school feel. The Apom Bokwa was soft and went quite well with the banana sauce. The assorted kuehs such as Kueh Dadar, Kueh Bengkah, Pulut Tai Tai (served with Kaya), Kueh Talam, Abuk-Abuk, Kueh Lapis, Ang Ku Kueh (Tau Sa), and Rice Bengkah  were cut into small pieces. Soft and yummy.

Princess Terrace Cafe has been offering authentic Penang cuisine in Singapore since the early 1970s. They have a few food stations where the chef will whipped up the delicious dishes for you. I especially like it that they have a popiah and kueh pie tee food station where the lovely popiah and kueh pie tee is done professionally. A great buffet place that offers a great variety of Penang cuisine! There were some hits and misses. Overall, it is still a very recommended place for Buffet especially if you like to have local cuisine for buffet. Most buffet places are always international theme. This is indeed a refreshing change.

Copthorne King's Hotel may look like an unassuming, and somewhat run-down hotel in the midst of the 5-star accommodations that throng around our little island, but this is one hotel that really shines through its food. It's Chinese restaurant, Tien Court, serves exquisite delicacies, while its coffee house serves up one of the best Penang food around. It could be Singaporeans' never-ending love for buffets, as we were here on a Tuesday night and the entire buffet restaurant was full. But, I've long heard people rave about the Penang buffet here. While the selection may not be as varied as The Line at Shangri-La, or as luxurious as Greenhouse at the Ritz, the food here is authentic, hearty and comforting.

That said, we weren't really in the mood for a buffet, though we were in the mood for some Penang cuisine, in ala carte portions.

We ate:

1) Penang Chicken Curry ($16.80) - a rich creamy and headily spicy nonya-style chicken curry

2) Penang Char Kway Teow ($15) - an aromatic smoky wok-fried flat rice noodles with crunchy bean sprouts, Chinese sausage, prawns and eggs in savoury black soya sauce. Slurp-worthy!

3) Chicken Satay ($12) - tender chicken skewers marinated with an oriental flair is served with a spicy peanut dip. I liked this, even if it didn't have a discernible sliver of pure fat, it was still moist, flavourful and tender

If you willing to pay more for quality hawker food in a nice hotel with cozy environment, Copthorne King's Penang Buffet would be your choice! There is hot food area, where you can find lots of authentic Penang food, such as Char Kuey Teow, Otah, Fried Porridge, Satay, Pig Tail Soup etc. At the wok area, where you order your food and the chef will cook for you on the spot, you can find Penang Laksa, Prawn Mee, Bah Ku Teh etc. When you are done with mains, you can either go for a range of Nyonya Kueh or Pancake (choice of peanuts, kaya, cheese), or simply make your own Ice Kacang or Cendol.

A great experience!
