This is my first visit to Ramen Champion at Great World City, and the service provided is definitely more formal and siding a little to the fine-dining way. Instead of walking to the stores to order the ramen of your choice, they have a menu with all food items from different stores collated into one, and you can place your order with any available crew.
Mentaiko Gyoza ($7.60) which is a great option! Thick skin that firmly wrapped the soft filling which you can easily chew and swallow.
Tebasaki ($9.50) comes with 4 pieces which can easily be shared or eaten by oneself. Crispy skin and juicy meat beneath is just marvelous! Taking back what I mentioned earlier, I think if you love chicken wings, sharing might not be an option after all.
For Shabu Shabu Set, we had the Set A worth $59.00, sufficient for sharing between 4 pax. Supposed to have pork loin and belly, beef loin, chicken, assorted vegetables, seafood platter, and a choice of ramen or udon. We had the beef changed to chicken sausage though.
We had two soup bases, which are Paitan (white broth) and Tom Yum. One is sweet while another is spicy, perfect combination to thrill your tastebud! The initial taste of Paitan can be quite bland, but as usual, soup of steamboat will get thicker and stronger in taste as food are put in to cook. Well, good things come last.
A bowl of Seafood Platter such as clams, salmon, prawns, crabsticks and fishballs. Of course, a bowl Udon rather than ramen due to personal preference.
As promised in the menu, we also have the Chicken Box, thinly sliced Pork Loin and Pork Belly for easier cooking.
Soup is re-fillable upon request, and you just have to enjoy the boiling of your raw food and dip with the sauces for some meal-satisfying moment. Do remember to taste a few sipd of the soup towards the mid and end of the soup which will be truly "slurpingly" good to drink on!
Ramen Champion's Shau Shabu is arranged in a set in the consideration of diner's health such as overbinging and feeling sleepy after a stuffing meal of delicious food. While you may not necesary be in a group of 3-4 pax to try out the Shabu Shabu, Ramen Champion also serve the sets suitable for 2 pax and 3 pax for $29.00 and $47.00 respectively.
In support of the introduction of Shabu Shabu in Ramen Champion, I am also giving out 3x $10 voucher valid till Feb 2015. To win these vouchers, kindly comment in my blog to stand a chance!

Garlicky Spicy Ramen from Miyamoto - after tasting all the ramens ordered, I decided I liked this the most as I like garlic, and spice and the generous dose of bean sprouts they throw inside with the ramen. I realised that I needed the bean sprouts to compliment the taste of the ramen, so that it won't be too ger-lat too soon.
Nice place to grab a pre-movie meal, easy and fuss-free and tasty. You probably need to come with a group and order 1 ramen from each stall to eat at the same time to figure out what is your favourite ramen!! Good luck!

Really enjoy this big bowl of Pork and Vegetable ramen as the soup base is thick and sweet, with generous amount of chewy thinly sliced pork on it. Noodles are very thick and chewy and totally not soggy. The generous amount of sliced cabbage, beansprout and seaweeds really make this main course very nutritional. Priced at $16 is affordable and value for money. Salmon is fresh and quite thick in slices as well, and with no stingy smell on it. Restaurant is abit warm but seats are comfortable

Milky-white broth was heavily topped with well-marinated pork, braised egg, seaweed and corns, outstanding taste indeed. Love its thin noodles, the texture remained springy and mouthful. Slow-boiled tangy egg was okay, the pork on the other hand was in right ratio for fat lean and meat. The refreshing part was the sweetness that came naturally, salty for my liking. My Ramen was slightly expensive, price at $16.50. Yet it deserved the cost, filling portion and good premium quality.

During the tasting session, we were provided with a free flow of the ramen stalls’ various side dishes and ramen (which of course, allowed us to eat to our very spacious stomachs’ content). The side dishes included gyozas with various toppings, chicken karaage and spicy chicken wings, which were in general, very well done. Arthur and I felt though that the central focus of Ramen Champion should be placed on the ramen dishes themselves, which is why we are not including photos or detailed reviews of the sides. Make no mistake though, they are very worthy appetizers, and I’d definitely recommend them to any seriously starving customers, to whom a bowl of ramen by itself wouldn’t be enough. Also, this section will only include our initial impressions of the ramen, with reviews being put up soon.

The rendition of miso ramen by Bishamon Zero tasted as perfect as miso ramen gets. Considering the frankly mediocre standards of Bishamon outlets outside, this is surprising, albeit in a welcome way. The broth was well-balanced, with no individual flavours overwhelming the others. It also had a tinge of spiciness to it, which, like the other flavours, wasn’t overwhelming at all. These factors, combined with the other ingredients, made the components of the ramen perfectly complementary, making us tremendously impressed...

The opening of this outlet was kick start with inaugural Ramen Big Eater Challenge, with the presence of celebrity competitive eater from Japan, Miss Tomoko Miyake. I saw her on a variety show, and it seems that she has a stretchable stomach and gigantic appetite. So without a doubt, she was the winner of the eating challenge. If you got time, you should check her out online, you'll envy her ability to eat so much and stay in shape.

We begin this ramen adventure with Bishamon Zero's Sapporo Miso Special Ramen ($14.80). Originated from Sapporo, the broth is cloudy, robust filled miso texture. The ramen has a medium thickness, springy (qq) and tasty. The pork belly Cha Shu is tender and does not overwhelmed with its fattiness. The egg is cooked to perfection. In the soup, there is mild chilli flavour with subtle spiciness to give the warmness in the ramen.

Tonkatsu Itto's Special Tonkotsu Ramen ($16.50) from Tokyo follow next. The ramen size is very thin, similar to Angel hair pasta size. It is springy, not very flavourful, but carry the broth well. The pork base soup is robust and full of collagen taste from part of the pork bones. The egg is cooked nicely with the soft yolk in the middle. The cha shu is tender, however it is tasteless. You might want to eat it while its hot, or you will be overwhelmed by the richness of the broth.

Narita's City Miyamoto's Pork and Vegetable Ramen ($16). Once we saw the bowl, we decided to named it Army Boys Ramen, due to its humongous size. It seems the chef is throwing everything except for the kitchen sink in this dish. The noodle size is pretty big, similar to Mee Pok, but thicker and very resilient. The broth is difficult to spot as it is basically buried under the the layers of ramen, bean sprouts, sliced cabbage, cha shu and diced pork. Once you get through the layers above, you can taste milky robust broth with a strong garlic presence.

The half boiled egg here serve in full, as it is slightly under cook compare to the previous two ramens, the yolk just ooze out when you poke the egg. The cha shu is tender and flavourful, but I find the most tasty and tender part is the diced pork. Little Devil ('LD') and I feels that this bowl can easily filled two person.

The last bowl of ramen that we tried was Butaou's Special Sukiyaki Ramen ($16). Originated from Saitama Prefecture in Tokyo and inspired by Sukiyaki, the broth of this ramen originated its taste from sukiyaki sauce. The broth is robust and sweet, while the ramen is thin and springy. The egg was slow boiled with the yolk ooze out as soon as we break it. The cha shu is the tender, flavourful and the tastiest of all ramen, and the shabu-shabu style pork is just tender. Something different, but take a lot to get used to due the sukiyaki soup base and it will be a favourite to those who love sweet soup.

For the sides, we tried Okonomiyaki Gyoza with bonito flakes ($5.80 for 5 pcs) and Mentaiko Gyoza ($5.80 for 5 pcs). The gyoza are tasty with a combination of crispy skin and juicy fillings. We prefer the Okonomiyaki gyoza as the combination of bonito flakes and the sauce create a more flavourful gyoza. The Mentaiko sauce, seems to lack the punch, it can do better with stronger taste with extra mentaiko mayonnaise or mentaiko toppings.

Tori Karaage ($4.80) is quite delicious. Crispy on the outside, with well seasoned juicy succulent chicken thigh meat inside. While Spicy Chicken ($5 for 3 pcs) is quite ordinary. It lacks of seasoning, crispiness or even spiciness. The meat is tender, but it seems lacking in the obvious seasoning.

Overall, we find the Ramen served in Ramen Champion does have a certain standard. It is very difficult to decide which as are the best as individual preference and taste can be different. For LD's and mine, we decided that Bishamon Zero's Sapporo Miso Special Ramen as our 1st preference followed by Tonkatsu Itto's Special Tonkotsu Ramen. Why don't you give it a try and let us know which ramen you like. Kanpai!!! Cheers!!!

I had ordered this Sapporo Miso Special Ramen at $14.80.

The Ramen had a mild aroma of savory miso. The miso soup was thick and tasted quite salty. There was more of miso flavour than pork stock.

The noodles was slightly cooked to the softer type than springy.

The Char Siew was fatty and well grilled at the sides. The fats of char siew almost melted in mouth. The meat was soft and tender. Though I found the meat lacked of pork taste.

Overall, the Ramen was quite worth as there was mant char siew, but I hope the soup can be less salty next time.
