Similar to other outlets, there was free flow hard boiled eggs and marinated bean sprouts to help yourself to. There was also sesame seeds to add flavour to the ramen. One could customize the ramen as similar to other outlets.

The table was very small, barely had enough space for the food and the condiments on it.

Tonkotsu Ramen ($10.90++)
The pork soup base was rich and creamy. One would also add the grounded sesame seeds and bonito flakes to the ramen for a stronger flavour. The dish was such as pick me up for a cold night that one would forget about dining in such a small narrow table.

The Red Spicy Tonkotsu King ($11.80) with the option of Special Topping ($4) comprising a flavoured egg, seaweed, and stewed pork, was just as stodgy. In contrast, the pork needed more flavour and stewing time.

Like a true traditional ramen shop, Tonkotsu King does not have many options. Essentially, what a customer has control over is the saltiness and oiliness of the pork-based soup, with an additional option of choosing various sauces (black or red) to add spice. The newly-initiated should go for "normal" levels of saltiness and oiliness in a plain Tonkotsu soup base, which might be too strong compared to other eateries. This is how ramen's supposed to taste though. For subsequent visits, the "strong" levels are worth venturing into.
Upon receiving the order, the amount of fats floating within the soup might be shocking for the faint-hearted. Don't fret though, the fats add richness to the soup. Forget momentarily about cholesterol and sodium content; this is one of the best bowls of ramen you're gonna get in Singapore, so enjoy yourself and eat up. While we're on the topic, the soup is exceptionally thick, and for lack of a better word, "creamy". It tastes as though a live pig was thrown squealing into a pot of boiling water, and kept there until its flavour has thoroughly infused every water molecule. The broth is definitely a hard-hitter and takes no prisoners. When compared to some of the ramen we had in Japan however, Tonkotsu King's broth is more reliant on oil to bring about its heaviness and taste, whereas ramen in Japan was less oily but still more substantial and flavourful -perhaps due to the differences in pork quality, the duration of boiling or the amount of pork actually used. With that caveat aside, Tonkotsu King's broth is definitely one of the best you can get locally...

I get why everyone likes it. It has the most basic of what a ramen place should have - the choice for how thick you like your broth, how hard you like your noodles, and all the add-ons you could have. Oh yes, and it is attuned to the Singaporean palate sort of ramen broth, not too thick nor salty, reaching this well-rehearsed perfection. It's your no-nonsense, reliable ramen.

"Tonkotsu" is a popular ramen broth that's cooked with pork marrow bones and fat for hours till it is milky white and thick.

At Keisuke Tonkostu King, one can choose between the basic Tonkotsu Ramen ($10.80), Black Spicy ($11.80) or Red Spicy ($11.80) with additional toppings such as seaweed, flavoured eggs and all topping.

Over here, one can protein load with the bottomless supply of hard-boiled eggs! I love eggs and had 5 of them, excluding 3 yolks. Free flow of bean sprouts are available as well.

With the idea to introduce Ramen to the world, he expanded his Ramen shop concept to Singapore.

RKTK in Orchid Hotel is the second outlet in Singapore. It can easily be identified with people queueing to get into this tiny shop which can only cater about 30 pax. Be prepare to wait, as their normal waiting time for this tiny shop is about 30 minutes. The dining concept here is very simple, come – queue – order – eat & drink – pay – out. You can do your socialising when you are queueing or after you exit the shop.

As this is my first time here, I decided to order Tonkotsu Ramen Special (All Toppings) - $14.80. For flavour, I decided to go with the Original Japanese taste, meaning NORMAL for taste of soup, chicken oil and noodle texture.

While waiting for the ramen to be serve, you can make yourself busy by pounding the black and white sesame that you can incorporate to your soup. You can help yourself to unlimited helpings of hard boil eggs and pickled bean sprouts. For Chubby Botak Koala, the first thing he start is always snapping away with his Nikon.

The serving of the ramen is just a sight to behold. Size is huge, but the presentation simple yet appetizing. I like the enormous size of the seaweed, kind of giving you a screen to cover our greedy faces when you go on your ramen slurping rampage. I took a quick snap of of the whole bowl and lift up the ramen and started my 'ME & Ramen' only time. I can imagine that I put Do Not Disturb sign on my forehead.

The ramen has a nice thickness to it, noodle is cooked to al-dente. Each slurp of the ramen is well coated with addictive robust, milky and collagen filled broth. Some people will find it slightly salty, but it is agreeable to my tastebud. The meat is lean, but it is tender and flavourful. Although I would prefer it to be pork belly, I have to agree it might just too overwhelming here. I was bedazzled, and finished my bowl of ramen, almost to the last drop. Yum Yum, Two Thumbs Up!!

Overall, this is definitely one of the best ramen in Singapore. I really enjoy my dining experience here. After my first visit to Japan recently, I believe Ramen is best enjoy in a confined space, where you are shoulder to shoulder with the other customers. Once you slurp the broth, you won't realise that there is someone beside you until you accidentally elbow the one sitting next to you. Cheers!!!

Word of caution: If you prefer a light soup base ramen, this is not the place for you. To offset the richness of the broth (jelakness), it will be good to order some Oolong tea.

The place is pretty much hole-in-the-wall, with its small space and somewhat cramped seating arrangement. The gaps between tables are small, just barely qualifying as "separated' from the adjacent table. Whenever I pass by Orchid Hotel, there is always a long queue that attracts my attention. The people are actually queuing for Keisuke Tonkotsu King, the little ramen shop which is accessibly to Tanjong Pagar MRT Station. C and I always wanted to try the ramen and we decided to join the queue on one of the weekdays after work. We reached the place around 7.20pm and queued for approximately an hour to settle down for our ramen.
The ramen shop is relatively in size and can only sit about 20pax. Thus, this explains why the queue is long. The staffs do try to speed up the turnover by giving out the ordering sheet of the whole menu to customers who are queuing.
In the ordering sheet, there are options to choose between the basic Tonkotsu Ramen ($10.80), Black Spicy ($11.80) or Red Spicy ($11.80). I had Tonkotsu Ramen with choice of add on Seaweed. There are indications of the soup to be light, normal or strong. You can also choose the noodles texture you want. Additional add on choices (eg. Chashu, seaweed, eggs) are available in the ordering sheet.

The serving speed really fast once we handover over the ordering sheet to staff. The ramen was served within 2-5minutes time after being seated in the restaurant. Before the ramen was served, each table was served with the pestle and mortar which has some black and white sesame seeds inside. We grinded it up and tossed them all into the bowl of ramen. It’s an added nice aroma in the soup broth. The soup broth tasted not too heavy and smoothing to my taste bud. Most importantly it is not too oily for me as I did not choose to add in chicken oil into my ramen bowl.
A basket of eggs are placed on each table for customers to take. It’s complimentary plain hard boiled eggs. There is also a container of pickled bean sprouts on the table as well. However, our table doesn’t have the pickled bean sprouts which I think the staff might have overlooked it.

We also tried the Japanese Green Tea Cola. This is something new that caught our attention. It’s a green tea flavoured dizzy drink which I don’t really taste the green tea in it.

Tonkotsu King has unlimited serving of hard boiled eggs & really awesome bean sprouts. These appetizers add on to satisfy your ramen fix. Tonkotsu King Ramen ($10.80) + All toppings ($4), reasonably priced. Very rich and flavorful pork base soup, 2 big slices of char siew, nicely done runny egg, springy noodles, your best ramen experience.

Though this is not the best ramen I ever had in my life but is probably the closest you can get to an authentic bowl of ramen in Singapore. Highly recommended! Nonetheless, Ichiran will still be the best ramen I've had till date. Full post - http://jacqsowhat.blogspot.com/2014/02/ramen-keisuke-tonkotsu-king-orchid-hotel.html

Normal broth ramen with toppings which consisted of a large piece of seaweed, flavoured egg (which was half runny and half cooked). This costed about $20. Again, the chashu was not what I had expected from a stall this famous. The broth, as compared to the spicy one that I had tried, was saltier than average. It was packed with flavours and I could taste the pork broth. The ramen (normal) had a texture that was just nice too. There are also free flow of hard boiled eggs and marinated beansprouts

Spicy chashu ramen (price <$15 without toppings). The broth was well flavoured and the spiciness was just right for me and it was not at all overwhelming. I got the chance yesterday when my colleagues and I ended up in this area (after our original plan of eating somewhere else).

It was about 1pm when we had our lunch, and there was no queue. I was a bit surprised because I actually expected to wait for about an hour just to get a table inside the very small resto space. Once you enter, it will seem like a different era with Japanese songs being played over and over, Japanese calligraphy, newspaper clippings posted on the walls.

We were given papers where we could customise our orders. I chose the spicy ramen with all toppings (egg, fungus, etc). Orders arrived within 15 minutes, which was a good thing. I didnt realise till I sat inside that I was starving. Anyway on first sip, the soup was all spice without any hint of pork broth for me. It was rather disappointing.

There was a generous chunk of beef slices and noodles. But the soup was the most important thing for me. Maybe my expectations were so high that my ramen experience was just meh.
