I've always passby So Pho (NEX) but didn't have the chance to try it until last month. Me and my friend decided to drop by for dinner. The price was the typical restaurant kind of pricing (fyi students; go for student meal if have!) but the food you paid for was pretty worth it. It's was delicious (just nice; salty, sweet and spicy) and the portion wasn't that bad. We spend a total of $32 for 2 dishes and 2 drinks. I tried their fried rice because I was really craving for a good fried rice! And

I tried their fried rice because I was really craving for a good fried rice! And it didn't disappoint me. My friend tried their fried bee hoon goreng. I know you guys must be thinking, why such meal we ordered? You can simply get it at mamak shop. Lol. But HALAL vietnamese fried rice and fried bee hoon isn't something you can find easily in hawker centre. So once in a while treat yourself to a good restaurant wouldn't harm much.

Btw, since it was during dinner, we did expect the crowd. It was almost full house. Was just hoping that the gap between each table could be slightly bigger. I dropped my spoon and I couldn't pick it up because of the small space. It felt so cramped but nevertheless, I really like the interior! Its so chic and modern. The service was fast and hassle free too.
Would come back to try other dishes. (Y)

We started with Gỏi cuốn (Summer Roll – with prawn and lemongrass chicken $4.50). The rice paper roll is moist and filled fresh ingredients such as carrot, chicken, bee hoon, sliced prawns and vegetables. The sauce was sweet fish sauce, is light and not spicy. However, We are missing the peanut sauce that normally come with the summer roll.

For mains, I had Fresh vermicelli with grilled beef and fresh spring rolls ($9.80). The portion is good and the spring rolls are fresh and crispy. The grilled beef is flavourful, but a little though to chew on. The combination of peanuts, crunchy vegetables, the vermicelli and sweet fish sauce, create an explosion of flavour and textures in your mouth. Yum!!

Vietnamese Pho with sliced beef and beef ball soup ($8.80) is robust but on the sweet side. We feels that they put too much rock sugar in the broth. The sliced beef are tender, while the beef balls and rice noodle are springy (qq) in texture.

Interested in trying out their Baguette (Banh Mi), we ordered Bahn Mi Chicken (Baguette with Grilled Chicken & Chicken Pate $5.90). Using the chicken liver as pate is a creative way to replace the pork version. The baguette is light and crisp, the pate is smooth, velvety and flavourful. The chicken is tender. A good Banh Mi flavourful, yet well balanced.

For drinks with Vietnamese flair, give Lemongrass Tea or Sparkling Vietnamese Limeade a try.

The concept of the restaurant is open, bright and modern yet simplistic in a way. The use of light wood colour are prominent in this place. There are lots of mini flowers on the pot used to for decoration. Service is fast and the food come quite fast.

Overall, if you are looking for a quick fix of Vietnamese food or something that looks more healthy, you might want to consider So Pho. The food are fresh and flavourful, serving are fast and accommodate to the mass. Cheers!!

Very mediocre "vietnamese" food. The restaurant looks good, is busy with patrons, service efficient etc. but the food is very mediocre. We ordered a number of dishes including two items recommended by chef. The vietnamese beef sandwich was dry, and with very little of fillings. The lemongrass chicken did not have any lemongrass taste and it did not resemble anything like the item pictured on the menu. Dont waste your money with this restaurant.

Vietnamese cuisine is quickly becoming trendy in Singapore, and one of the latest to jump on the bandwagon is So Pho. Operating as part of the Katrina Holdings Pte Ltd, So Pho offers popular Vietnamese street food in a casual, contemporary setting. With their value for money pricing, and tasty, healthy dishes, So Pho has slowly been pulling in the crowds.

Ambience at So Pho is casual, comfortable, and modern, with touches of Vietnamese decor. The spacious but dimly lit interior boasts colours of black and red, with large but rather nondescript furniture. Random bursts of greenery spread around So Pho help to partition off areas, while the bustling kitchen and noisy atmosphere lends an air of street food dining, albeit in an air-conditioned environment.

Service at So Pho is partially self-service. Ordering is done through a chit, though staff check off and repeat your orders, as well as serve it to your table. But payment has to be made at the counter. There is minimal interaction with staff beyond making requests, which I'm happy to say they carry out efficiently and quickly. Most of the staff are familiar with the menu and can answer simple questions on preparation and ingredients, though they have to check with the kitchen on more complicated questions.

So Pho, as its name suggests, specialises in Pho, a thin but flavourful broth served with beef or chicken, fresh vegetables, and rice vermicelli noodles. While the focus is on the street food of Vietnam, plating and presentation is European contemporary. Portions are generally large for one person, and pricing on average is less than SGD $12 per dish. In Vietnamese cuisine, there is a strong emphasis on the use of fresh ingredients and a balance of the 5 elements (spicy, sour, bitter, salty, and sweet), both of which are evident in the food at So Pho.

I love the Pho Dac Biet (SGD $9.80) for its thin yet flavourful broth that has a strong taste of beef, herbs, and spices. Style is South Vietnamese, with garnishes of lean beef flank, beef brisket, and beef meatballs. I like that the meatballs have a slight bounce in texture, and the beef brisket is tender and soft. The beansprouts and onions add a crunch to texture, while the various herbs lend a floral essence and enhance the sweetness of the soup. Very good!

The Banh Mi Kep Bo (SGD $5.90) features a small but crisp French baguette, stuffed with savoury grilled beef and fresh vegetables. I loved the meaty, slightly salty beef, and the satisfiying crunch of the bread and vegetables. While I thought it looked small, it's surprisingly filling!

The Cha Gio Chien Fried Spring Rolls (SGD $4.80) weren't that great, as the skin was borderline limp and soft. The filling was tightly packed though, which was good.

The menu has a selection of about 60 food and drink items with clear indications of the popular items with a red star, as well as chef's recommendation items. Dishes are rather reasonably priced with most main courses costing approx $9.80++, Viet style baguettes (Banh Mi) are sold at $5.90++ each. There is also one vegetarian option in almost every food category.

For drink, I picked the Salty King $4.50++, a plum flavored soda with a ball of salty plum in it. It was sweet and salty and fizzy...not bad at all. Do note that they charge $0.30++ for ice water here (refillable).

My main course Grilled Lemongrass Chicken noodle w/ Spring rolls $9.80++, served in a huge peach shaped bowl...portion was pretty generous. The lemongrass chicken was done just right with nice flavoring and juicy tender meat. The spring rolls were good too with yummy filling marinated with Viet spices. The dish also comes with generous portion of fresh lettuce and a bunch of pickled shredded carrot/radish...these provided a good balance to the rich tasting grilled meat. I like it!

I also ordered a Sesame Rice Crackers w/ basil leaves Chicken $10.80++ as appetizer, and boy the cracker was huge! The crispy cracker loaded with black sesame seeds was very fragrant even eaten on its own. The minced chicken dip with crunchy peanuts was utterly yummy, I was blown away by its wok hei aroma usually present in well cooked chinese dishes...thumbs up for this dish!

I ordered takeaways on other occasions and the food didn't disappoint as well...
Grilled Chicken Banh Mi w/ chicken pate $5.90++. The baguette was soft, not crispy, served with generous portion of tender grilled chicken meat, pickled carrot/radish, fresh lettuce and topped with mayonnaise. I enjoyed munching on this very much.

Vietnamese Seafood fried rice $9.80++, it tastes similar to our local sambal fried rice, mildly spicy with fresh squid and prawn meat, quite nice.
