I must say they are pretty good and tasty and all not disappointing. I like their fruit tarts especially, it was so refreshing and suit my taste a lot. They have a wide selection of tea (I am a tea person) so it took me quite awhile to finally decide on their Supreme Ceylon. That afternoon was spend with good food and good company, 2 thumbs up for that. Will be back to try out their dinner menu soon!

Not just a very quiet and peaceful venue to have a great chat with your loves one, here also serve one of the best capcuccino in town as well. The portion is quite generous and I really appreciate the nice and beautiful design topped on the capuccino which specially decorated by the chef whenever the drink is served to us. The milk used in it is very fragrant and the coffee used is simply thick and tasty too.

If you are not a fussy person, you can actually take a short walk of around 15min from Redhill Mrt, around 2.3km on Google map.

It has both aircon indoor and sheltered outdoor sitting available. Due to the nature of the landscape there, you are actually eating at mid tree height level as you can see from some of the photos in the listing.

My order during this particular lunch was to start was with Kurobuta Meatball as appetizer ($15) and Prawn Pasta and Carnaroli Risotto. The meatballs is actually cooked in tomato sauce served with homemade mini buns, nicely decked on a long serving plate, it sure sets the taste bud ready for the main course.

The prawn pasta ($22) is precchiette served with chopped prawns in zucchini, spinach and garlic cream. The Carnaroli ($22) is made with porcini mushroom and truffled hen egg. For the mains I had preferred the prawn pasta over the Mushroom Risotto with the latter less appealing as a main. I felt the risotto actually would be more worthy as a side, that’s my humble opinion since the ricy dish may be too much to handle as a main.

Total bill $70 for 2 pax

The burger was nice and tasty, with the patty well done. It had pickles, which my dad took out, mustard, vegetable, onions and many other ingredients. It was a filling and wonderful meal. I wish my dad would take us there another time so that I can enjoy another sumptuous meal.

The Selection with the Crab Cake was recommended by friends who frequented Spruce and the presentation hotel style. Really filling as well despite its looks.

If you come here, be prepared to make reservations beforehand, else you might not be able to get a seat. Also, if you're in a hurry, this place is not ideal as the restaurant is bustling with customers and orders. A good choice to have a slow and lazy Sunday morning/brunch though.

Nice little find off town, with really great ambience, awesome for a date.

The tagliatelle with pork was a poor show. It was just generally salty and dry, something you would expect out of an American high school cafe.

The waiter who was serving us behaved in a very extraordinary, slightly disconcerting manner. Compared to similar dining places, the service here was just fair, at best.

If you do go, go for the ambience.

Had been itching to try out Spruce, after seeing quite a few reviews of it online as well as in various publications. Apparently their chef was from Wine Garage, which made really good burgers. Reservations were a pain though as the place was almost always full, till I got lucky one evening and managed to squeeze in a reservation for an outdoor table.

Outdoor seating probably isn't the best idea especially when Spruce is located just up a tiny hill next to lush greenery along Tanglin Road. But hey, if bugs are your best pals, then by means go ahead. Read. The bugs are suicidal. They do kamikaze stunts like crashing into your drinks, table and food. After a couple of minutes, we surrendered and requested for a seat indoors, which was promptly given to us (Whatever happened to the reservations).

Roasted Mycofarm Mushrooms with Herbs - We initially wondered if mycofarm was some special type of mushrooms but after googling, it turned out to be the name of a farm in Singapore. On hindsight we probably shouldn't have ordered this side dish. The mushrooms tasted very normal but were literally drenched in oil. And it was definitely not olive oil.

Creamy Macaroni and Cheese - Now this side dish fared much better. Simple comfort food for the masses. Small macaroni shells evenly coated with a nice smooth creamy and cheesey layer. Not too overwhelming. The bits of burnt mozzarella cheese on top provided a nice crisp texture.

Seared Tuna with Steamed Bok Choy, Carrot and Ginger Broth - Make no mistake. This was a main. 5 slices of tuna tataki with a clump of bok choy going for $22. The tuna was disappointing to the say the least. Not pan seared till lightly charred on the outside while uncomfortably limp on the inside. Being less then generous on the salt didn't exactly help matters as well.

The Spruce Burger with Hand Cut Chips - The burger was good though a tad small. The beef patty crumbled with ease when I poked my fork into it, leading to us coin it "burger crumble". Corny I know. The patty was probably one of the best I've had in a long while. A little moist without the beefy taste overwhelming. Simple and unadulterated. I thought the buns could do with a little more toasting though. There is an option of topping up $2 for a slice of bacon to go along with the patty.

Cranberry, Blueberry and Coconut Tart Ala Mode - I thought this tart sounded really interesting and healthy with all the berries so I had a go at it. Well I wouldn't say it was fantastic but at least it was decent. I could make out the taste of blueberries and cranberries and strands of coconut in between. Lightly sweet. Unfortunately, the accompanying scoop of ice cream melted really fast and was your run off the mill vanilla ice cream.

Yogurt and Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Seasonal Fruit - This dessert was actually more yogurt then panna cotta, smooth and semi liquid. The layer of blueberry was sweet and complemented the yogurt quite well. It was topped with this brownish looking muesli bars that stuck to my teeth when I chewed on it. Nice but majorly irritating.

Generally speaking, prices aren't really over the top but food quality could be improved quite a bit in general. Service in general was good but there was this young waiter that stood out with his earnest attitude and attentiveness. Pity I didn't catch his name. Spruce is worth a try, just for the burger, but probably not worth a return. By the way, parking is free.

If you are taking a public transport there, it’s a 15 minutes walk from Redhill MRT. I always do the walking instead of bus services, I am a bus-idiot. Be warned though, especially on weekends meal time, that there will be a long queue waiting for you if you haven’t made any reservations. We waited for a good 45 minutes for a group of 6. Worse thing is it’s so secluded there isn’t anywhere for you to walk around or do some window shopping while waiting.

Greek Yoghurt ($7++) :: Having yoghurt as a side dish to my breakfast / lunch always makes me feel blessed and pampered. The chilled granola crunch and fruit preserves spices up your morning, making you feel that the day really has just started. Additionally, Yogurts are always not too expensive as an item by itself. So it’s a plus.

Banana Hotcakes ($14++) :: Yes it’s either Eggs Benedict or Yoghurt + Hotcakes for me, usually. Disappointingly though, the Hotcakes doesn’t match up to the standard of the Yoghurt. I thought the Banana flavor overpowered the course. Also, the hotcakes are really just plain, hotcakes, no fragrance like it usually would bring out, even though hotcakes might not be as smell-satisfying as pancakes. The honeycomb butter and blueberry syrup didn’t help much either.

Spruce Signature Burger ($17++) :: Served with hand-cut chips, it is a very heavy breakfast / brunch. Carbohydrates-overload with the burger and chips, coupled with the beef patty. I thought the chips was pretty good. Not being too much of a burger lover, this burger here didn’t help salvage the situation. It’s not that it’s bad, but I just thought it’s ordinary. By the looks of it, I really think this is not a place for burgers.

The slices of cakes cost at or around $10 per slice. The price is definitely steep if you look at it just like that. But it sure is hell of a tower. Each slice threatens to stand taller than you, what after a filled stomach for the morning. It is best to share it with your mate. The Chocolate Cake is again, pretty ordinary. The Carrot Cake, on the other hand, wasn’t quite to my liking. I guess it’s just me. I haven’t had a good history with Carrot Cakes myself. So.

Somehow, even though there aren’t over-staffed, they were not very attentive when it comes to service. They are polite and friendly, don’t get me wrong, but I guess that towards the end of our meal when it was running slower, humans being humans, just switched to off automatically. Otherwise it was fine.

the duck leg confit ($32) topped with roasted vegetable chutney, potato puree and some interesting papaya salad had a really beautiful presentation! and the meat of the duck was succulent and soft and although the skin was fried, it didn't taste unhealthily oily which was good!
the signature spruce burger ($17) was mountainous haha. this was nothing special in my opinion, the burger bread and beef patty were pretty normal? but...BUT the potato wedges were really quite awesome! chunky and generously-sized, each piece was tastefully seasoned and really yummy.
another awesome dish was the beef short ribs ($29) with fried egg, spinach and horseradish gremolata. i just tried a tiny chunk of that slab of beef and i was SOLD! it was juicy, melt-in-your mouth delicious, with the fats oozing out and the taste just explodes in your mouth in heavenly goodness. mmmmmmmm!

i didn't try the whole roasted snapper ($27) with herb salad and lemon jam, but my first reaction when i saw it was: it looks scary! haha. this is not something i would have ordered for myself, simply because it had a hell lot of bones :/ eww. but i suppose the taste was fine.
the dish i ordered turned out to be a miss, unfortunately
i was really quite excited about my tagliatelle with kurobuta pork bolognese ($22) but it turned out to be rather disappointing. i liked the chunks of meat in it, quite a generous amount, which was good. but the noodles were really odd! >.< i have no idea how they cooked it, but the noodles were sort of hard, and REALLY clumpy. like chunks of them just stuck together, until i ended up eating it with a spoon rather than a fork O.O weird. oh well.

they also have a wide variety of drinks there, and we got the dom mojito ($17). quite nice! tasted pretty strong, but what i like about mojito is its refreshing taste! (:
and finally. the reason for me gushing over Spruce, despite my disappointing main course, was because of their double chocolate crunch cake with sea salt caramel filling ($12/slice). OMGOSH. this has to be one of the most epic chocolate cakes i have ever eaten. for one, it is a humongous slice, so don't be put off by the price. secondly, it tastes awesome. like really, mind-blowingly chocolate-y, orgasmic-ly awesome. the whole slice is simply EXPLODING WITH CHOCOLATE. dense layers of cake interlaced with sinfully rich caramel, peppered with crunchy little bits of things inside (no idea what they are) and drizzled with chocolate sauce. the chocolate is the dark chocolate kind, slightly sweet, slightly bitter, and oh-so-absolutely-wonderful. there are no words to describe it. try it for yourself! im not sure whether it's always there though, because i think the desserts change pretty frequently.

Desserts were slightly disappointing though. I had high hopes for them cuz they look so darn delicious. The Spruce sundae ($15++) was ordinary (Swensen’s does a meaner version easily); double chocolate crunch cake ($12++) was dry and the sea salt caramel filling was too mild to make any impact; and PS Cafe definitely makes a better steamed ginger date pudding ($12++) than Spruce~
