Curry Fish Head Masala Papad Prawn Pakora Tandoori Rack Of Lamb

One of my favourite places for fish head curry in Singapore will have to be The Banana Leaf Apolo at Race Course Road. This was recommended by my college mate almost a decade ago when we then brought one of our American lecturers here for dinner and since then I have fallen in love with its fish head curry and papadum (of which I didn't manage to take any pictures because we finished them off too quick!).Rice (briyani or white rice) is free flow here so you can have as much as you want. Side veggie dishes are also provided. The thing I like about eating here is that you get a banana leaf on your plate and they will serve the rice and appetizers on top of the leaf. I do like the smell of banana leaf and somehow I feel the leaf lends this alluring fragrance to your food just like what it does for banana leaf nasi lemak. Anyway, forget about white rice and just go for the biryani rice. Very fragrant indeed and not soggy at all.Definitely not for anyone who doesn't like oily, greasy stuffs because this dish is super oily. Probably that's what makes this so tasty. The gravy which you can pour over your rice is very good. The mutton pieces are tender and moist and do not have any strong gamey smell at all.I have eaten better Tandoori Chicken at Shahi Maharani but I do like the strong charred taste of this. Unfortunately, I thought the meat was a little dry (mostly breast meat) and there was a lack of spices flavour. The leading dish of the entire meal. That's what we are here for. The gravy is spicy hot - shiok! Plenty of meat (despite being a middle size head - for 2-3 persons to share). Nicely cooked, not overdone at all. If I'm not wrong, this should be a red snapper fish. Whatever it is, it doesn't taste fishy at all which is good. 繼續閱讀

One can be overwhelmed by the influx of diners to this restaurant. You can get the best non-vegetarian Indian food here. There is a choice of set meals and a la carte. The waiting time to be seated during lunch hours is five to ten minutes. The waiters can be very busy during such times, so you might have to send reminders for your food items, should they be delayed. But, when they serve you, they serve you.I ordered white rice with prawn masala, cuttlefish masala and fish cutlet. The vegetables served with the meals are cabbage and long beans. Though this can vary according to the days. You can choose from a variety of gravy - from sambar to chicken. I prefer fish curry. The combination is just superb! The masala in the prawn gives the oomph. If you cannot tolerate spicy food, give this place a miss, at your loss. 繼續閱讀

Stepping into the restaurant was like stepping into a spice supermarket. The aroma from the various spices instantly rushed through your nostril. Upon sitting down, you will be served with a basket of papadum. A good distraction for the hungry stomach while waiting for the food to be served.I didn't know that the rice came with 2 sides so I ordered the Chana Masala which is chickpeas cooked with masala. I seldom have chickpeas but it was an interesting North India dish. The Biryani Rice was not the yellow type that we usually have. It was more plain in colour but fragrant and nice. There were also two complimentary vegetable sides that came with it.The Chicken Vindaloo which is chicken breast meat with potato filled in hot n spicy sauce. It was not as hot and spicy as it looked. The highlight of the night had to be the Curry Fish Head. Lots of spices were packed into the gravy and I love the sourish taste of it. The fish head was also fresh and good. 繼續閱讀

For my parents 25th Wedding Anniversary last month, we went to Banana Leaf Apolo to celebrate. As patrons of the restaurant for years, we knew that the one dish we have to order would be their Masala Chicken. As always, it did not disappoint. The masala chicken was served in huge meaty pieces, with a generous serving of masala coating it.The chicken was tender and I just couldn't get enough of the masala which goes really well when just eaten with plain rice as well.Definitely my favourite Indian restaurant to patronize for good Indian food.Banana Leaf Apolo sure does serve quality food for an affordable price! 繼續閱讀

The Banana Leaf Apolo is a nice place selling Indian and North Indian food. I their bryani which is a must try if you ever eat there! My friends also ordered their chicken bryani and potato cakes. The chicken was all good as the sauce made it very appetizing and it is not overcooked. However, the place is quite hot as there is no air con. 繼續閱讀
