I have always wanted to try The Basil Inn as I've heard that they have good thai food. It seems like they expanded, and the small kitchen is unable to cope with the never ending crowd. We were there on a sunday night and saw many customers complaining about the waiting time for their food. We waited for more than 20 mins as well. I tried their prawn cakes ($6) - well breaded and fried, good as a starter but is a little oily. The kangkong was very spicy (do request for less spicy), and I think pr

We also tried their honey chicken and garlic pork, which were both good and not overly salty or oily, but the portions were quite little. Overall quite decent thai food.

I order the famous Thai cuisine Tom Yam soup. Thai started to cook this dish more than a few centuries ago, a traditional Thai food. Today, According to the medical research announced that it can prevent cancer.

It is a spicy sour soup with Prawn or Seafood. It contains of slices of fresh fish, prawn, vegetable, tomatoes, a lot of chives and red dry chili, the taste is fantastic savory. I find that the ingredients they used are very fresh.

The price is 6/9/12 depending on the plate size you order.

Certainly not I but it was a pleasant if somewhat eerie surprise to find that everything I ordered had such a familarity in taste and look about it that with every spoonful I started to miss home even more (even after being here for 5 years!).

Because I came with a group of 5 friends, we had the chance to try almost everything that was a favourite of mine and that included the mango salad, papaya salad (which was painstakingly pounded as it is in the streets of thailand and was awesomely good), a $12 tom yum which came in a fire-lighted pot and shared amongst all 5 of us and of course my favourite pork basil which tasted just the way Maa would cook it back home. I also particularly liked the steamed seabass which came with a shocking amount of chilli and garlic and coriander like it does back home.....love at first taste. Definitely no scrimping of ingredients here. =)

THe thai tea was typically sweet and fragrant, maybe a little too sweet for the tastebuds of my singaporean friends but for thai girl like me, I can take it!

Will definitely bring my parents here when they come visit me next month. Sure Maa will love the food here too since she can't take singapore food at all.

Highly rec the basil inn at pasir ris downtown east!
