Ever since seeing The Factory being featured on TV , I am dying to go try out their fries and their interesting dips. Finally had a chance to go there this evening, but came back really disappointed.BF and I ordered a Minced Chicken Spaghetti which comes with fries with 1 dip (we opted for Marmite Honey per their staff’s recommendation) , Truffle fries and Lemon Tea . I do feel improvement for the presentation of food is needed , based on what we had been served today. From the pic, u can see that some of the minced chicken were all clumped together. =( Taste-wise - just ok. Portion was just nice. Fries that came with the main course. Dip was ok, but I couldnt taste any honey in it, I find it a little too thick. Truffle fries. I was by the portion. It was more like for 3-4pax. For 1-2 pax, u will get sick of it before u can manage to finish half of it. It tasted quite nice during the first few fries. Waffle with belgin choc & banana ice cream. When i saw the waffle, i had a very bad feeling, it look burnt and very dry. And true enough, it was burnt and hard and tasted bitter. Choc ice cream was quite bland and lack the "fullness" , I even taste frozen bits within the ice cream. Lemon tea was also quite bland. =( I felt a bit upset to be so terribly disappointed by a place I had been looking forward to visit, and after reading plenty of good reviews for their waffles. It was after my korean bbq dinner at Goki, my friend and i decided to just stroll nearby for a while since we were feeling really full. Was pleasantly surprised when i spotted a cafe at a corner unit when i was walking towards the private house estate area. Out of curiosity, we walked in to take a look. It's a simple place with minimal decor but it makes you feel welcomed. Since we had dinner already, we decide to just have ice cream ($3.50 for 1 scoop). I opt for sea salt caramel while my friend had this citrus lavender which is really nice and refreshing to have after a heavy meal. I strongly recommend this! The Factory should be no stranger to foodies and north-east residents. Having themselves featured on many platforms, many have introduced it as a place for artisanal fries and waffles. The interior of The Factory is iniviting; a clean and bright interior with brilliantly white walls and paintings hung as if it was an art museum, along with the tastefully paired mismatched furniture, it is simple chic at it’s best with a wee bit of industrialism in it. It’s location however may be easily missed, especially when it is located at a far corner of the junction, though you are likely to find it if you had specially made a trip down to look for it.The main selling point of the fries here are the artisanal dips ($7.50). I went for the recommendations of the lady at the counter because I was spoilt for choice with all the unique flavours sold there! Went for the Spicy Melted Tomato with Chinchalok. There is an option of having thick or skinny fries, but the lady kindly offered to mix in both versions for me because I could not decide which to have as well. The thick fries are somewhat closer to potato wedges in size, while the skinny ones are pretty much like typical shoestring fries. The thick ones are fluffy which makes them suitable to spread the dips and the condiments on, but the skinny ones are crispier. The fries were nicely golden brown and salted to the way I like, which is likely to be too much for the health-conscious. The Spicy Melted Tomato with Chinchalok sauce is reminiscent to the typical chili sauce with Chinchalok, but the Chinchalok taste was not that heavy to turn those whom cannot accept its taste away. The tomato added a nice zingy flavour and it gave a consistent mushy texture; something very well executed as such dishes often end up with a rough slushy texture instead.Of course, I could not miss out on the waffles so I went for a Belgian Waffle with a scoop of ice-cream ($7.00). The Horlicks Malty Ice-Cream was not very strong in either flavour and tasted seemingly confused, though it was smooth and great way to get a chill out of the hot weather these days. The waffle was a different story; this waffle was just crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside, with it being a bit moist but not sickly dense. There is a certain depth to it and it was just the right amount that made it a pleasure to have. I have been patrolling this restaurant almost thrice a month just to have their waffle ice cream for my dinner. The portion is quite generous and really like the crispy waffle, which is very fragrant and quite thick in texture. It is also full of the butter flavour,which make it very appetitizing. Chocolate ice cream is very smooth and thick in texture, which the chocolate flavour is also not too sweet and goes well with the waffle. The caramel flavour was abit too sweet for me but is still delicious as well. Staffs here are polite and approachable. Per scoop of ice cream is at $3.50 and 2 scoops with waffle is at $10.50. The Factory is westernised food place located at 22 Lim Tua Tow Road, Singapore (near Kovan area). The place serves up western dishes like artisan french fries (skinny or thick version) with interesting dips, ice creams in many flavours, pasta and many more. Mrupupup went to the Factory on a weekday evening and the place was quite filled up with young trendy people. Mrupupup ordered their beef lasagne with thick artisan french fries which came with a cheesy dip (about $13). Mrupupup also ordered a waffle with ice cream (about $6). Well, taste good for both dishes. The thick fries with cheesy dip was nice (warning: very cheesy only for cheese lovers). Hot waffle with ice cream tasted pretty good on a weekday evening. Anyway, the place was busy and noisy with many conversations going on.
