I decided to go and try out The Line at Shangrila after hearing my friends rave how good it was. Apparently when you book online, there are many discounts, like 15% online booking, 25% buffet discount and so on. I was pretty unlucky cos the date that I want was not available for the 25% so I had to stick with the 15%. Better than nothing. The food at the line is indeed awesome. The seafood there was so fresh, I ate a whole lot of sashimi. The sushi were just so so, not a lot of choices. But they got change from time to time so have to continue checking to see if there is something you like.

I like the pizza there, it was thin crust so even if you tried all the flavours, you will not feel so full. The roasted meat was not too bad, a little on the chewy side. But very flavourful and tasty. There was a dim sum counter too, I love their glutinous rice dumpling. there was quite a lot of filling in the dumpling. The rice was cooked perfectly, very sticky and chewy and soft. There was satay too, but it was snatched up pretty fast, cos there is a limit that the chef could grill and the demand is so high. To ensure I got my satay, I stood there and waited for the chef to grill it. The satay was really good, it was marinated well, the meat was very chewy and juicy. there was not fatty meat too. the satay sauce was very thick and rich in peanut.

I was pretty thrilled to see they have a counter serving teh tarik. It is one of my favourite drink. Their teh tarik has rich tea fragrance and very milk. It was very smooth to drink as well. then they have the ice cream counter, you can opted for them to mix the toppings into the ice cream or simply get a scoop. I was pretty satisfied with the buffet spread. Paid about $60 per person after discount.

To be honest, this visit changed my opinion of the line, maybe its the Wednesday buffet spread that failed to wow and perhaps because i came with high expectations. the only consolation i had was the oysters were still fresh and good and so were the salad bar and desserts cake section. But still i think i may give it one more shot again on the premium buffet spread for weekends or seasonal offerings before deciding I'm not going to come back here again . A trip to Shangri-la the line was indeed the highlight of the weekend. My girlfriend made the reservation on their website, we enjoyed a 15% online exclusive discount so we only paid $55 per person. It kind of cancelled out the GST and service charges. As we went on a weekend(Saturday) lunch, the place was pretty crowded. The manager even asked my girlfriend if she enjoyed herself. Such good service is hard to come by. The food here is indeed good.

I started with the seafood station, there were prawns, large mussels and crab. There were quite a lot of people queuing for their oysters, at times I even gave up on the wait. The seafood were really fresh, especially the mussels, it was so juicy.

Then I moved on to the sushi counter, there was not much variety at each time but they do change the sushi toppings from time to time. The California roll was pretty good, went well with the soya sauce and wasabi they provided. But I did not eat much from this counter.

There was a salad bar there, you can diy your own salad or eat those that were prepared by the chef but I was not much of a vegetable person so I gave that a miss.

Then there was the pasta and pizza counter, I was not really impressed by the Hawaiian pizza presentation so did not take a slice. The pasta had different sauces too.

I did take a bit of the fried seafood. Their fried calamari was really good, the calamari was not overcooked despite being deep fried. They also have an indian counter, I took a bit from there. It was really good, the spices taste were pretty strong and fragrant.

There was also a prata counter. The prata was cut into smaller pieces so you can try more food. This is really thoughtful of them. The curry that goes with the prata is a little on the sweet side but it was thick and flavourful. There was also a dim sum counter, they changed the dim sum from time to time, when I went there, there was not har gou and char siew bao but my girlfriend came back with them. Their siew mai was very juicy.

But I must warn that you must leave some space for the dessert cos the selection is a lot. This is one of the largest dessert spread I have ever seen. There were all sorts of cakes, tarts, pie and eclaire. It really satisfy my sweet tooth.

Not forgetting their ice cream counter. They even help you to mix in the toppings like those of marble slab. However I think the area that they mixed the ice cream was not cold enough cos when the lady handed me back my ice cream it was this state – melted. But it was good, wish it was harder though.

With this, I end my experience at Shangri-la The Line, hope this is helpful for those who are contemplating on going there. In my opinion, GO GIVE IT A TRY cos IT IS GOOD!

Visited the line today with my family for the buffet dinner. The variety of the buffet is good which consist of  Indian, Mediterranean, Chinese, Japanese, Singaporean and western dishes. Not forgetting the desserts, though i think that the Melts' Cafe's desserts has a better spread and quality compared to the Line. Most people may have heard of The Line restaurant at Shangri La Hotel. Not many may have heard of The Line Shop at the lower lobby of Shangri La Hotel that bakes fresh cakes and pastries daily. I only got to know of this place when I was specifically asked to purchase a birthday cake from here after 6pm and not to be late. When I reached the place at 630pm, all the birthday cakes were sold out. I have to settle for the few miniature cakes and pastries that were left. I have to admit they are very good and nice. No wonder my friend wanted me to go all the way to purchase it.

went there for dinner there buffet choice was quite limited,most of the meat are mutton,i never see any chicken the sashimi & snow fish was fresh & nice ,one person cost about $70++ i don't think it worth the price

If i could sum up our experience at The Line @ Shangrila, it was one of the worst hotel buffets i've every encountered.1. Apart from their oysters and clams, the other seafood was not fresh. The sashimi was a terrible let down especially since i visited the Greenhouse @ Ritz Carlton a few weeks before.2. The desserts looked splendid. But thats as far as it gets. If i could sum up our experience at The Line @ Shangrila, it was one of the worst hotel buffets i've every encountered.

1. Apart from their oysters and clams, the other seafood was not fresh. The sashimi was a terrible let down especially since i visited the Greenhouse @ Ritz Carlton a few weeks before.

2. The desserts looked splendid. But thats as far as it gets. Most of the cakes were too sweet or full of cream but no substance. Their fondue had alot of choices for dips, but most of the biscuit dips had been left exposed too long. The chocolates on display were merely plain milk chocolates, nothing special either.

3. The laksa (see IMG 1) was watery and did not taste one bit like laksa. Something was wrong and we couldn't figure out what that was.

4. Their service sucked. We wanted to surprise our friend with a birthday cake (which The Line agreed to provide when we phoned for reservations). However they did not have a cake ready and i had to approach at least 3 service staff before somebody directed me to a waitress who was able to get a slice of cake for me. The waitress also ignored my requests for her to be discreet. And i had to follow her to the kitchen, be told to wait outside while she went in to get the cake. Absolutely unacceptable.

The only saving grace for food was the indian food section. Most of the indian food we sampled were if not tasty, at least they tasted decent. The duck from the chinese section wasn't that bad either.

Overall, if not for the company, it was a very bad dining experience.

My father brought the whole family to the line at shangri la for their buffet. I was thrilled as I heard many of my friends said that the buffet is really good and the spread is awesome. I was not disappointed, the spread is indeed good. my favourite station is the raw oyster station. The raw oysters taste so good, so fresh that it tasted so sweet. eaten with the lemon juice, it was so satisfying. I really enjoy this buffet. It is a must go!

Ambience

The Line is located at the basement of Shangri la and spells simplistic chic from the moment you step in. The colour scheme is mainly zesty orange and white, emanating a sense of vigour and excitement.

Variety


The buffet is divided into 5 different sections - Italian, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Dim Sum and Desserts, all of which offer about 4 to 5 dishes each save for the dessert section which probably had about 20 items or so (about a third of more were made of some form of kueh). There was also a couple of "live" stations where you can get your popiah, laksa, crepes, pasta etc. Overall, I wouldn't call the spread extensive, but it was a decent spread by many standards.

Quality

Here comes my biggest gripe. Quality of food ranged from below average to average, with probably only a couple of items toeing the above average mark. ie. the sashimi, 1 or 2 of the cakes (most notably The Line Cake). Even the homemade ice cream (vanilla flavour) was bad - bland, melted in a jiffy and where's the sugar?!

Service

Casual and friendly enough, just that the wait staff need to clear the plates and top up the water a little more frequently. Some of the counter staff at the "live" stations could be a little friendlier though.

Value for money

At $56/pax after the 39% discount ($91.81 without), it's still a rip off in my humble opinion, especially with the mediocre quality of food and the notable absence of more expensive items like lobsters, scallops and the likes. I am pretty sure I can get alot better food that can fill me up at that price point. Just a thought, does a 39% discount mean a 39% reduction in quality as well?

We came here again on CNY’s Sunday champagne brunch last year. It was an impressive brunch with reasonable price.

This round, we tried their international lunch on the first day of CNY. I like their cold dishes very much, such as crab, prawn, clam and freshly open oysters. Oyster is creamy, full of ocean taste, the after taste linger for awhile, I thought there is an ocean in my mouth. Having said that their sashimi is OK.

I was looking forward to having their individual Lo Hei at the salad counter, it wasn’t available, could it be after 7th day of CNY than their serve such dish? Anyway, lobster salad is a good replacement for me.

I couldn’t spare spaces for their warm dishes, like Indian, Chinese + dim sum, satay, laksa, roasted pork, duck, etc, therefore, I didn’t know how did they taste like.

As I have sweet tooth, dessert counter will compliment my meal of the day. Their variety of cakes, ice cream, chocolate fountain, sweet and juicy fresh cut fruits, sure there is something for everyone.

We were very happy to come back for our first day of CNY meal.

I went there once for a lunch buffet with my friends. I was greeted with a very pleasant environment, as expected... because of the amount I was paying. I think lunch was around $80+ dollars after taxes.Sat down and was greeted by a range of seafood, there were oyster, prawns etc, the usual. Actually, most of the food found in THE LINE could be find else where, really don't see why people kept raving about it. I guess the only great part is the dessert corner, where you are greeted with shelves

The one that was really special and really delicious was creme brulee. It's absolutely heavenly and taste really good!

Other than that, I don't really see where my money is going. I guess the ambiance is quite nice, but it's a hotel... hence, I won't go there again unless there's a huge discount.

As it was Mother’s Day, we wanted to give my Mum a break and treat her to a wonderful afternoon at The Line Restaurant. Relish the best that the line offers with a mouth-watering buffet spread of Western, Indian, Chinese, Seafood and pretty looking pastries. My favourite would have to be the Seafood. It was very fresh and tasty. The chocolate fountain or as I call it, the mountain of ecstasy tasted awesome. It is by far the best chocolate fountain I have ever tasted. It just makes you go back
