Similar to what an authentic Japanese restaurant does, apart from the fixed menu, it usually comes with another Daily/Catch of the Day Menu stating what are the fresh catches from the sea they have on that day itself. These Sashimi usually come at a much higher price due to its freshness and some being seasonal too.

First appetizer to kick start the dinner is none other than the traditional Chawanmushi ($2.80). I guess it’s kind of hard to come across awful tasting Chawanmushi since it’s such an easy to make dish, and nothing too fanciful is needed to give it the finishing touch. But what makes this dish stands out the most it’s the smooth and silky egg with a touch of light seafood flavor to it.

Next up was the Scallop Mentaiyaki ($13.90). Thinly sliced fresh scallop which are light in taste paired with the creamy mentaiyaki sauce and tiny fish roes under the quick glaze of fire brings the flavor to another height. It was simple yet an impressive dish.

First gem of the restaurant is their Chirashidon. We went for their Normal chirashi-don ($24.90) which consists of 3 thick slices of each sashimi that were full of lustre – Salmon, Aburi Salmon, Tuna, Swordfish, Yellowtail and Scallop topped with Ikura (salmon roe). The cut of fish falls between common and something more premium. They are selfless in their ingredients, each slice of fish is that thick, fresh and succulent with the Swordfish having the extra bite in particular. Their generosity of sashimi has definitely surpass the proportion with the rice and way exceed my expectations for the price i’m paying for.

Second gem of the night that we couldn’t miss was this Salmon Aburi Roll ($14.90). I love how the taste and texture of each ingredient has complement one another. The crunchy crispy battered prawn with buttery avocado wrapped around with sweet japanese sushi rice and half grilled salmon aburi goodness that literally melts in your mouth. It’s such a delicate delicacy.
The Sushi Bar definitely makes a good place to satisfy your japanese cravings at pocket friendly price yet not comprising on the quality in the food served. Despite the crowd, attentive and prompt service was rendered to us while we were there too. Highly recommended place!

This was my first time dining at the sushi bar! I had seen many reviews that the steak is a must order item in the menu, therefore i ordered a 100g sirloin steak fo $14.90. I have heard of this restaurant from various people over the past months and decided to try them when I was in the neighbourhood last week.
We were out shopping and when we finally were looking for a place for lunch, it was 4.30pm. We went to the outlet at #04-28, but they were closed, as it was their break time, between lunch and dinner time.
The lady working there suggested I visit their other outlet at #03-89 instead, which is open throughout, as the third floor outlet do not have the afternoon break time, and open throughout.
So my ‘lunch’ partner and I went to the third floor outlet. It was located at the back corridor, away from the building atrium.
There’s bar counter seating for 4 pax and several tables in a row, seating up to 10 pax.
I spoke to the chef and he said the menu at this outlet is smaller than the one on the fourth floor, as they can only use induction cooker and the small gas burners. They have a limited menu, and we ordered the following items:
- Salmon Sashimi: $2.90, This was a special priced item, as the restaurant is celebrating their 2nd anniversary! Incidentally, the day we dined was the last day of the promotion. We spotted quite a few tables ordering this dish several times.
- Wafu Spaghetti: $10.90, The spaghetti was served in a shape of a squid, with the mentaiko cream sauce on the plate and topped with sakura ebi roe. It was good! Highly recommended, especially for those who love mentaiko.
- Ebi Fry Salmon Aburi Roll: $16.90, A whole deep fried prawn rolled with avocado, cucumber and rice into a rice roll, then topped with salmon and mentaiko cream and flame broiled. We got two rolls for this order. It was good.
- Okura Ponzu: $4.90, Sliced cooked lady’s finger in a ponzu sauce. I couldn’t get enough of this dish and ordering another would be too much. Recommended.
- Yamaimo Teppan: $8.90, Chinese yam that has been grated and placed on a small hot plate that has been heated and served to our table. On the top, the grated yam is partially cooked, while the
They are generous with their wasabi.
We enjoyed our meal here and would definitely be back again. Try it!

Still needs to queue but the new place at Level 4 is much bigger, so hopefully you dont have to wait that long. Anyway, it was also by chance that I ended up first in queue when I dropped by on a weekday. My friend and I wanted to have early lunch and so we reached there at about 1130am. Only then I knew that the place open at 12pm. Called it blessing in disguise, the queue built up not long after I stood outside the shop.

They do allow reservation but you must make the reservation 1 week in advance. Alternatively, 'tabao' is another option to skip the queue, just order and pack away.

Most people will order the chirashi don which seems to be their signature dish? It comes in 3 type:

Basic Chirashi Don - Salmon/Tuna/Hamachi/Tobiko - $19.90

Normal Chirashi Don - Salmon/Tuna/Hamachi/Scallop/Ikura/Mekaigiki - $24.90

Premium Chirashi Don - Mixed Shashimi -$62.90

We ordered the Normal Chirashi Don which in my opinion, most worthwhile. The premium one is definitely out of my reach, I cant imagine spending over $60+ for a lunch and only one item lor. Anyway, the normal chirashi is good enough for me. The fish slices were super thick & fresh, so quite shiok to eat. There was quite a variety of fish types, but seriously, I didnt know what I was eating except for salmon and tuna. Lol

Sashimi Salad ($16.90++)
Mom likes this the best out of all the dishes. It has huge chunks of sliced raw fishes in 4 types, crunchy jelly fish, eibko (prawn roe), fish floss, crackers, shredded egg, marinated seaweed, chopped cucumber, crab stick and shredded vegetables in salad cream. One thing which I do not like about this dish is that the shredded vegetable is too long. Overall it is a very delicious dish.

Salmon Kabuto Miso Soup (promotion price : $12.90++, usual : $15.90++)
It is salmon fish head miso soup, served in a iron pot. There is also spring onion, white radish, mushrooms and tofu in the soup. It is also Dad's favourite dish out of all the dishes, because the fish head is quite meaty and fatty too.

Total the meal costs $137.35. The food is served quite fast and orderly despite having a long order. The food is great and filling. Tea is refilled often, maybe because I am sitting next to the airpot counter.

Scallop Mentaiko: This dish consisted of torched thinly sliced raw scallops and mentaiko. It was subtly sweet (from the scallops) and subtly salty (from the mentaiko), and it tasted nicer when you put a little bit of the flying fish roe and spring onion with the scallop mentaiko. This was not bad but the portion was much smaller than expected. I really wished the scallops weren't sliced so thinly

Wafu Spaghetti: This was thin spaghetti (but still thicker than angel hair) in a pink cream sauce with flying fish roe. The cream sauce was light so you will not get easily sick of it. Portion was pretty small too.

Salmon Aburi Sushi: Encased within the sushi rice was cucumber, avocado, raw salmon & crab stick, and this was topped with salmon aburi (torched salmon) and a dollop of mentaiko. This was definitely good but not as amazing as I thought it would be... I don't think I'll call it the best aburi salmon sushi in Singapore. Nevertheless, the salmon and avocado was melt-in-your-mouth. However I think the aburi salmon could be thicker.

Ebi Fry Salmon Aburi Sushi: This was like the salmon aburi sushi, except they have fried prawn & avocado in the sushi. I preferred this to the normal salmon aburi sushi as the ebi fry lent a different flavour and texture to the sushi.

Scallop mentaiyaki $13.90
The raw scallops were sweet and the heavier flavour of the torched mentaiyaki complemented the light-flavoured scallops well!

Chirashi don (basic) $19.90
This was really filling! I have tried both chirashis and if you are just craving for a simple bowl of chirashi, you can get the basic one. The ingredients have been cubed so it is easier to eat but less shiok since you can't see the whole pieces of sashimi.

Sirloin steak $14.90 - This is a really popular item there so even though I didn't like steak, I decided to give it a try. The steak was quite tender but stringy at some areas
It is served medium rare as default.

be sure to go early as there will be a queue forming before it even opens for dinner!

This is my first time reviewing a restaurant, felt the need to as I personally want this restaurant to improve. Usually if I have a bad experience in a restaurant I would just simply not visiting it ever again. However, I do see the potential in this restaurant, and would be glad if it can fine tune certain parts in their management.

Food wise, it is up to standard. The food is not fantastic, but it is worth what you pay. I can only say that there are too many Japanese restaurants in Singapore which are below standard and over-priced. The sashimi is fresh, salmon aburi roll is good. However, taco wasabi is disappointing. It is far from what it's supposed to be. This is my favorite appetizer and it is hard to go wrong. The chef definitely needs to improve on this dish, try not to focus on the popular dishes only. A good restaurant makes every details count.

Done with the food, now it's time for the service. Some people believe that as long as their food is good, they can open a restaurant. Well, some customers buy this idea as well, they focus more on the food quality. To me, food quality is definitely important, but I do not overlook on the service. We queued for half an hour before getting a seat, I have no complaints in queuing. Good food draws it's crowd. After we were presented with the menu, we took about 5 minutes to decide on the orders. We were only told by then that no more sushi is available. We queued at 7pm and were seated at about 7:30pm. It is the peak hour for dinner, I can't believe no one even bother to tell us that no sushi is available when everyone was queuing outside and when we were seated. If I knew that there is no sushi available, I would not have came for this restaurant. Sorry to say that the name is really misleading, named itself "The Sushi Bar" but sushi is not available during weekend's peak hour.

The staff were friendly and attentive though, not rude at all. They do not charge service fee so it's understandable that you need to refill hot water by yourself. The management is responsible to train their staff on how to manage their customer's expectation. Customers do not mind to pay more for good food, price is not the only indicator when deciding which restaurant we should go.

I might be back for a visit after I see more reviews on it's service improvement, hopefully I do not need to wait a few years for the next visit!

i had also heard a great deal about the chirashi don here, and if you're a sashimi fan, i recommend you to get the version where the fish comes in slices ($24.90). we were rather let-down when we saw our version (chopped sashimi, kinda) that came in a really tiny bowl ($18.90) :'( after all the pictures we saw online! i think they have shrank their portions since the beginning of this year. we were so sad! although i have to concede that it turned out to have quite a substantial portion and variety of sashimi (i spotted tuna, salmon, swordfish, yellowtail, ikura and uni) but we were really quite disappointed at the start. i've heard that the version with the slices is really too much fish though
so you might consider sharing. there is also a premium version ($34.90), which i presume has an even wider variety of sashimi.

in terms of portions, The Sushi Bar disappointed on two counts, but it made up more than sufficiently in quality
the Sirloin steak ($14.90 for 100g) was beautifully charred on the exterior, while delightfully tender inside. it came with a serving of punchy garlic chips which we devoured together with the meat. the steak is delicious on its own, but dip it in the sauce that comes with it, and you might discover a winning combination. lightly sweet, the sauce complements the flavour of the meat perfectly as it slides into your mouth and releases its juices.

and we couldn't leave out dessert! it was amazing how despite the amount we ordered (i guess it was a blessing that the portions seemed a tad small), i still felt just right after the meal, rather than bursting at the seams. the tofu cheesecake ($4.50) sealed the deal with its wobbly, yet firm texture, light-on-your-tongue flavour, and toothsome biscuit base.

The Sushi Bar scores with its quality dishes, but perhaps it might be a little overpriced considering the portions and the queue that you have to go through to get your hands on the food. then again, the shiok maki is even more expensive. haha. i would say, be prepared to queue, and just go for it! alternatively, i think they do take reservations up to a certain capacity, so you can try your luck with that!

Who would have guessed that there would be a hidden gem in Far East Plaza that serves up quality Japanese food that is so fresh, you literally taste the ocean. Did a quick query with the first person at the counter, I was told lunch hour would start at 12.30pm so I window shopped till time’s up and headed back there again.

The Sushi Bar is a no-frills, casual Japanese restaurant with more seats right inside (where the glass window is). Its ambience is very different from other Japanese restaurants as it blasts Mandopop songs in the background and the young service staff all converse in fluent Mandarin.

There were 2 groups of people ahead of us in the queue and they were ushered to their tables swiftly with orders taken as well. As we were expecting someone to usher us to a table, it didn’t happen and we were left standing there for quite a while as a few service staff were scurrying around, saw us but did nothing. So my husband and I made our way in and got a table ourselves. And even when we were seated, no one came forward to take order so I had to grab the menu, go to the counter to get someone’s attention and place our order. Not a good start, service wise.

The menu offers 3 price ranges of Chirashi Don (sashimi on rice) from Basic $18.90, Normal $24.90 to Premium $34.90 to fit different budgets. We picked the Normal one as I wanted mekajiki (swordfish) which is not present in the Basic don. This Normal Chirashi Don comes with a generous portion of fish roe, scallops, salmon, seared salmon belly, swordfish, yellowtail, tuna, crabstick and tamago (egg). The sashimi are probably one of the best I’ve had in Singapore. Sweet and fresh. It doesn’t taste like it has been frozen and then thawed. The only downside is that there is very little rice at the bottom so if you’re a heavy eater like my husband who needs his carbs, then this is probably not enough.

Again, one of the best salmon aburi roll I’ve had. The salmon is seared to perfection, it is tender with a slight smoky flavour and combines well with the creamy texture of the avocado inside. Pop the whole piece into your mouth and enjoy the sensation of the bursting flavours from the various ingredients. Thumbs up!

My friend recommended this restaurant for dinner as they sell nice value meals. This restaurant is located at one corner of the shopping mall near to the entrance path toward the toilet which it took us a while to find this place (First time eating here). Though the restaurant is small, there are a lot of people having their meals there and we have to wait for around 15 to 20 minutes before we are able to find a table to sit on. (Free sitting). The staff service wise, they never really help to refill the drinks as they are mostly too busy or never take notice of it until somebody request for refill (Provided you are able to get their attention). In the end, I need to go to the counter myself and get hot water to refill our cups of green tea myself.

Anyway, in terms of the food wise, I would say it is value for money with different variety of dishes (Though smaller portion) for customer to choose from.

This is the chicken cutlet rice with and without the curry version. I would prefer the curry version one as it makes the overall taste nicer. Else, the Chicken Katsu would be too dry to be eaten together with the rice.

The feel of this salad is like Chinese Fa Cai Yu Sheng as they include those crispy crackers into the salad. It is nice and refreshing taste. Recommended dish though the portion is not a lot.

This dish is nice with full of different ingredients being added into the miso soup. Best eaten together with rice.

There are Roe and salmon sashimi on top of sushi rice. All is fresh and nice and about the same standard as compared with Sushi Tei but they are sure very stingy on the sushi rice as they just put very very little of sushi rice for the dish and the sashimi is very thinly sliced.

The seaweed wrapping the sushi roll is not crispy (Guess they delay in serving the dishes to us) though the taste is still not bad while the salmon can be said to be freshly made. This is not a bad dish to have as snack.

Anyway there's nothing I could do but to come back another day, so I ordered the Salmon & Ikura Don $18.90. There were 10 slices of salmon per portion. Both the salmon & ikura were really fresh, so I really enjoyed my meal
my only gripe is that the rice was a little too little for me (though my friends found them ok).

Will definitely go back soon to try the much raved about aburi salmon roll!!
