Ting Heng is a hidden gem located along Tiong Poh Road (next to the famous Tiong Bahru Market), not many people will know unless if your friends introduced this place to you. I have heard a lot of their famous fish head steamboat so I decided to bring my family for a feast of fish head steamboat. As we are not a fan of fish head, we decided to switch the original fish head to slice pomfret fish meat. As there are 5 of us at the dining table, the waitress gave us a huge round table seat that can easily accommodate 10 pax. The steamboat was serve in a big bowl over those gas operate stove and they are really generous with the amount of fish slice given. I like how fresh their fish tasted, without the heavy fishy smell. If you are afraid of that kind of smell, I would recommend you to have pomfret cos that's one of the fishes which I think have very little of those fishy smell. The soup base is really good too, one can easily drink finish the soup at one go. They do provide free top up of the soup, but it will be hard to grab the waitress attention when the place is full. If the weather is good, you get to sit outside along the road, just like how the 70's-80's people do. A very nostalgic feel of dining experience. 繼續閱讀

It's a definite order of a fish head steamboat. Usually the garoupa at $32 a pot. It's a little salty these days but I like it anyway. The prefried yam slices are an absolute yum! The fish that day was a little dismal since it was only a meagre offering. The golden mushrooms for the steamboat are very expensive at $8 and so were the tofu puffs but this you must order. They can be both eaten and dipped in to cook with the broth. But Id eat this all by myself anyway. It's expensive and no, I never figured how they made these power puffs. The beancurd golden mushroom is highly recommended and appears on most tables. Try that. But I'm actually just happy with soup. 繼續閱讀

It was a fantastic dinner last night when my dad's friend invited us for dinner at Tiong Bahru. It is a zi char shop and i was surprised to see the place was filled up with people. It was fully packed with people for outfoor and indoor. Luckily we had our reservation otherwise i doubt we can find a place to fit 21 people. It was totally 2 tables. There are many types of live seafoods displaying at the restaurant and customers get to pick on the spot. Totally catch live and choose the cooking mode were opt for. The restaurant is famous with it's Jiangshu xianghua homegrown crabs which has the poster posted on the walls. It was awesome! The meat is tender and juicy!!You can taste the sweetness of the crab.Thumbs upWe had steamboat with vegetables, fresh fishheads, meatballs, fried beancurd which can be ate without dipping into the soup. We also had the chance to try geoduck which is superb!I prefer to eat raw as sashimi as it really taste chewy and sweet! You can always put into the steamboat pot to boil a while but the taste is different when you eat it raw. Perhaps you can try both...We also ordered the beef slices which i just put into the steamboat for less than a minute and consume them. The thickness of the beef slice was like 2mm?I am just guessing is just nice to have it shabu shabu way.The soup base was delicious and we ended up with a special way. My dad's friend recommended us to left quarter of the soup base and ordered a bowl of white rice and raw egg and spring onions. He poured the white rice into the steamboat pot and also the raw eggs which is mix together and stir evenly until it turns to porridge style and slightly sticky. Then, add in the spring onions and stir one more time. Tadah.. you can have it just like that. Simply good!Too bad i didn't take picture but it is truly a blissful dinner. Simple way of cooking but ended up with a perfect way without wasting foods. However, if you are expecting for good service, mm..i doubt so. We need to call several times to request for the plates to be change, drinks to order and to add on the steamboat soup base. You need to communicate in mandarin language with the service staffs as well. The service staffs are mostly middle age range people and they have difficulties understanding english. As for the environment wise, you can opt for outdoor dinning or air-conditioned dinning area. But the air conditioned dinning area has limited dining tables which i think can only fit 6-7 big tables. Simple zi car restaurant which the wooden table covered with white cloth to be ready to be seated. The place is a bit squeezy for indoor and the toilet has only one to share with ladies & guys. So you may need to queue if you going for it.Nevertheless it is a good place to have steamboat & seafoods. Price are consider reasonable but not for this meal especially with the crabs and the geoduck for 21 pax. 繼續閱讀
