Tiong bahru bakery is my new favorite bakery. They have so many delicious creations that its hard to pick a favorite! This time I tried out their breads instead of gettin my usual croissant. The loaf I got had apricots and nuts in it. It was pretty dense and had quite abit of toppings inside, however someone I didn't really fancy the taste of it as I found it too heavy and not sweet enough. Looks like ill probably stick to the pastries next time!

Tiong bahru bakery has two outlets now! Both serve really good pastries! I really like the kough amann which is crisp buttery sweet and absolutely delicious. The pastry consists layers of buttery pastry with lots f sugar that caramelized upon baking such that the whole pastry has a nice caramel note to it. Absolutely unhealthy and fattening but tastes fantastic!

My dad bought back the other day and I was so fascinated because so never tried before. He bought 5 of them and I had some of each.

Croissant Almonds - $3.50
Vienna Plain - $2.50
Brioche Natural - $2.50
Raisin Bun - $3.50
Croissant Chocolat - $3.20

My overall verdict is that the inside of every pastry is soft. And the smell of butter and the buttery taste is so overwhelming even if it is plain with nothing. I don't mind having another one after that. The ingredients that they used in their baking is quite generous. You can taste a good amount of chocolate and raisin. I would want to try again like real soon.

They have the best butter croissant. It is $2.50. Quite expensive but i think worth it because it is really delicious to eat it on its own. It is still nice to eat even if you keep for next day. The size of the croissant is quite big too. Just 2 of the croissants can fill up my stomach. I will go back to try others with more croissants. This is a must try items there. Strongly recommended.

Love tiong bahru bakery's pastries! I always order the almond croissant with chocolate filling which is super decadent. The buttery croissant is taken up a notch with a nice almond filling and chocolate. Eaten warn, the crisp exterior gives way to a soft chewy interior. Topped with lots if icing sugar, this pastry is sweet and nutty with bittersweet chocolate to contrast the sweetness. A great choice!

Heard so much about TBB and made a trip to try the famous croissant. For $2.50, I told my partner, it better be fantastic. It was indeed really nice, the smell, the taste, everything was so perfect.Besides that, I tried also the chocolate chip croissant. It was equally good.To top it off, I ordered magic coffee, chose this coffee because it has an interesting name. Coffee was rich and creamy. Simply love the whole TBB experience.

I was quite amazed by the details of the coffee art. Usually, you don't get to see so many layers in the tulip.

My first impression of this burger was not good. I wonder how rockets and smoked salmon can go together. Well, the answer is the almond-ish pesto in this burger bun. Nothing special about the black though, it is a gimmick to me.

This croissant is the probably the best you can find in Singapore. Anything better can only be found in Europe. Sweet inside, but not too sweet. The texture was good with enough crispy layers on the outside, and inside was soft and moist.

Same goes for this. Earlier, I had almond croissants at Carpenter and Cook, and I thought it was awesome. This was this next level of awesome-ness.

The croissants here are fantastic! Super flaky with a crisp exterior encasing moist buttery layers. My favorite pastry is the almond croissant, filled with nutty almond paste and sprinkled with tons of icing sugar. Extremely fattening but worth every calorie! The contrast of textures and flavours between the crisp croissant and the soft almond paste centre is delightful

sunday afternoon coffee break.

we were supposed to satisfy a fruit tart craving at drips.
but seems many others had that in mind too.
there was a queue and only two tarts left.
minimize our losses.

let's walk.
orange thimble?
not that either. we'll be back for a proper breakkie.

so. next door?
tiong bahru bakery.
a corner seat.
perfect.
now leave that reserved sign there please.

crossiant aux amandes
just because it was still on the baking tray.
i know.
just psychologically instinctive.
i loved the crunchy bits at the side.
that buttery coat on the top - think hk po lo buns and their buttered crusts.
and generous almond flakes.

perfect companion to my latte.
too pretty.
and almost ironic.
it's a broken heart i'm nursing.
not a perfect one.

a viennese chocolate roll.
soft. pillowy.

with little chocolate nibs.
perfect for a long black.

and this chocolate tart.
must come with a tooth warning honestly.
i did not manage to successfully saw through it.
not even once.
and it took pure brute strength for a rugger to attempt to do it.
everytime his knife goes into the tart, i brace myself for a flying slice.
fortunately it didn't happen.
the concept of caramelized fruit in the tart shell was good.
but did the chef think of the actual process of eating?
it's not like one can stuff the entire pie into one's mouth.
the valrhona chocolate was rich.
do -not- eat this on your own.
especially not if you're planning to run after.

prices here are steep.
but with the way singaporeans spend on food?
these prices could actually qualify as a norm already.
he spent over $100 on breads the last time he was here?
mmhmm.

Crowd started streaming in after we settled down. We decided to try the squid ink burger with smoke salmon filling and the tuna pastry (forgot what's the name). I ordered cafe latte while my friend ordered loco latte (thick coffee like shots). We wanted to order the croissant initially but they were all sold-out. Fortunately, they baked another new batch of croissants (we waited for like nearly 30-45min). Its a nice place to have some high tea and catch up with friends.

The squid ink burger tasted unique! You should give it a try!

The tuna pastry tasted healthy and fresh too! However we could not really appreciate the taste of the green forest as the topping.

Original croissant ($2.50/pc) was so yummylicious! Crispy outside and fluffy soft inside!
Both kinds of latte were well-done albeit a bit bitter.

Give it a try at this original branch!

On the right hand side will be the range of pastries placed neatly with the friendly and bubbly staff waiting to their our orders. This is actually my first time trying the squid ink baguette as it is seldom or not even found at our bakey shop. Although the outer texture of the baguette is quite hard, it taste quite good and has a mild squid ink aroma in it and has a soft texture on the inside. As for the sugar brioche, coarse sugar is sprinkle on the top with a nice round and golden brown colour. Taste wise has a buttery aroma and has a very soft and fluffly texture. For the price wise, it ranges from $2+ for a sugar brioche to $7 for a pie. Although it is a bit pricey, the quality and taste of the pastries is definitely worth the try.

If you decide to eat in, the friendly staff will usher you to a vacant table but you will have to place your own orders at the counter.

This bakery collaborates with French celebrity baker Gontran Cherrier and there has been much hype about the breads sold here. I distinctly remember the Sunday Times food writer proclaiming that the croissants served here are probably the best in Singapore, so I decided to try their Croissant ($2.30).

I was quite impressed by this; the outer layers were flaky and crisp, while the insides were soft and buttery. It was not dense at all and every rich buttery bite was an absolute delight. While the croissant can be savoured plain, you can also help yourself to butter and jam provided by the bakery. Do note they have a counter dispensing butter, strawberry jam and marmalade inside the shop. Just walk to the back and help yourself! The fluffy insides of the croissant definitely went very well with the additional condiments.

If you find plain croissants boring, the bakery also serves out a really superb Chocolate Almond Croissant ($3.50), which has the same croissant shell stuffed with generous amounts of sliced almonds and chocolate filling. The pastry is surprisingly not over cloyingly sweet and I enjoyed munching on soft, fluffy dough with crunchy almonds.

The shop also serves coffee, the same brew served in their nearby sister outlet 40 Hands. I got myself a cup of Piccolo Latte which really gave me a potent caffeine kick. A simple croissant and coffee from this place is enough to perk up my dreary afternoons.

They also have an extensive selection of cakes and I regret not getting any during my visit. I was impressed by the croissants and judging by the overcrowded cafe on a weekday afternoon, many people appreciate their quality bread and desserts. Will definitely come back for more in my next visit!
