I have been passing by this outlet for many times which always spots a really long queue. Something caught my eye: The german potato cheese the other day.Placed in a thermal warmer, it was a great way to keep the food warm and delicious!I succumb to my hunger pangs and decided to order the German Potato cheese and mind you, it was EXTREMELY FREAKING DELICIOUS. I'm so excited talking about it now because the potato that was oozing out had a taste of delicious onions in it and the cheese melted in my mouth. I really love the shape of the fish which is quite a popular kind of dessert in Japan (they put chocolate in it!)I think I'm really addicted to it. I guess I will buy this german potato cheese every time I'm in ION in future!!!The down side is this: the service is terrible. The guy was preparing and cooking and he saw me there, asked me to wait. This has always been my favourite snack, even though the price seems to have increased over the yr. As compare to the other octopus ball, I think they have the best out of all that I tried. The ingredients is very generous, and the skin is crispy yet the inside is so soft and tasty. I would always ask them to get me the HOT and Fresh one! Ion Orchard has a food hall similar to that of Takashimaya's. So while wandering around, my friend and I decided to stop by for dinner at this place. We ordered a plate of yakisoba and drinks each and a plate of octopus balls (8 pcs).One had to wait quite a while for the yakisoba which happens to be cooked on the spot. But this assures that your food is cooked fresh and hot when you eat it.One thing I really like about this restaurant is the octopus balls. They are really generous with the octopus bits. There are a few big pieces of octopus bits in each takoyaki (octopus ball) which is really amazing. Tried takopachi balls at a few places in Singapore, and this has to be one of the best! It matches the authentic takopachi balls which I had in Japan. The octopus in this takopachi is a bigger piece compared to what the competitors offer. There's these crunchy bits in the takopachi balls which many other takopachi stalls do not have. It gives the balls a better taste and makes it more aromatic. I had the original sauce, and it complements the balls very well, making it even yummier. We chanced upon this store at Ion and there were not too many people when we went there early for brunch, so we jumped at the chance to try the food. I got the Potato Croquette Yakisoba which came with two pieces of croquettes. The noodles were a little salty and oily for me (though still tasty), and I love the croquette which were crispy on the outside and piping hot and soft on the inside! We also got the 4pcs Teri Tama (Egg with Teriyaki sauce) for $3.80. Like the croquettes, the Takoyaki were also crispy on the outside and soft inside. I love the egg toppings and ended up eating it on its own! The Takoyaki by Tsukiji Gindaco definitely beat pasar malam ones hands down. A must try if you visit this store!I also got the soft serve ice cream that came in a small cup but it started melting really fast. I ended up having my dessert before the meal. However, it was pretty smooth!We only saw that they were also selling Taiyaki on our way out and I felt like kicking myself for missing them because I just love those! This stall is among one of the many at the basement of Ion Orchard. I think it is more famous for its Takoyaki balls but it was the fish-shaped pancakes that got my attention. There are a few flavours available - red bean, custard, ham and cheese. I decided to get the red bean pancake as I always liked to try their default flavours on my first visit. The red bean filling is very sweet and it is a mixture of red bean paste and bits of red beans. The pancake is quite thin so the filling is around 80% of the pancake and I especially like it that the filling is quite evenly spread out. The pancake is quite crispy even though it is not freshly made and the pancake dough is rather spongy on the inside. For $1.80, it is quite worth the money since the fillings are generous. Ordered the set meals which consist of original Yakisoba and Maccha Float. Noodles take quite some time to serve as is a long queue during dinner time. Noodles is abit on the salty side but is taste good. Ingredients include are meat and vegetable and fry on the spot where you can see the staff cooking and serve it on hot plate. Maccha Float is fantastics, rich in green tea flavor. Ordered the egg mayo tako balls too. Although is all in octopus filling but there is egg mayo on top of it. Best snack ever! I love this teri tama to deathhhhhh! This teri tama consists of 4 takoyakis with egg mayos for toppings and not to forget, fish flakes! Favourite takoyaki of all time! Every takoyaki ball consists of a generous piece of squid meat. It is so addictive that i crave for it every time I pass by there! Fall in love with their Tako ball with egg mayo since the last time I had. Bought it again when I pass by the other day. Today I had it without chilli powder on the egg mayo & it actually taste better. As usual, the tako in that tako ball is quite a big piece. I also bought the Hokkaido Seafood Yakisoba. Noodle is fried with sauce, together with cabbage. Lastly, squid and prawns were separately stir-fried and added to the noodles. Squids are not overly cooked; slightly chewy. As japanese food is one of my favourite cuisines, I am always on the lookout for good japanese food in Singapore and I think that I have found the best Tako balls ever! Those who have been into Ion Basement food hall should be familiar with the long queues at Tsukiji Gindaco, which sells its famed Takopachi balls.They're usually warm and crispy on the outside, and filled with delicious goodness on the inside with fillings of octopus, beni shoga (red pickled ginger), tenkasu (crunchy flour bits) and leeks. Thus, it's a flavourful ball of goodness packaged within a crispy golden shell that makes it the best tako balls in Singapore! (in my opinion at least). This time round I ordered the Matcha Soy drink which was quite refreshing and most importantly, it made you less guilty eating the 3 tako balls after reading the posters on the benefits of Matcha at the seating area. I was craving for a small snack and this japanese stall caught my eye - they have fish-shaped pancakes (which are cute) with different fillings - e.g. bacon and cheese, red bean, custard, etc. I went for the safe and conventional choice of a red bean pancake. There are lots of takoyaki and yakisoba available in many places, but this place serves up a pretty good version of it. I guess you can never go quite wrong with a Japanese chef preparing Japanese fare.Yakisoba.Generous amount of it, topped with lots of bonito flakes, served piping hot. Whenever I'm feeling peckish in town, I like to head down to the food basement in Ion because it has such a wide variety of good food to choose from. In fact, I've become so attached to a particular Japanese snack that I even get my family to buy it home for me if they go down to Town. And this snack is no other than the fish-shaped cake - Taiyaki! Of course, the stall is more popular for its Takoyaki balls than the Taiyaki cakes but that's a review for another day. They offer freshly made Taiyaki in a variety of flavours but being a traditionalist, I tend to opt for the red bean filled Taiyaki. That said, the banana-filled Chocolate Taiyaki is an innovative and delicious twist for this traditional Japanese snack!The red bean filling is sweet and generously slathered over the fish-dough and if you're bored, it is fun to watch the staff make the cakes, which of course, looks way easier than it actually is. That said, I've found that the quality of the cake varies each time I buy it. While its obviously best eaten fresh out of the pan, being still warm and crispy, there are times that the dough is still soft and chewy even at the edges, which are supposed to be crispy! So, do keep that in mind and do what I like to call "strategic ordering". I like to stand and observe the staff making the cakes and also, which cakes are already made. It's your best bet to order a flavour that isn't already on the display so that staff will make you a fresh one!
