In 2001, inspired by an unforgettable experience at an eatery in Wan Chai, Mr John Lim founded Wan Chai HongKong Tea Room. Here at Wan Chai, Hong Kong specialties such as shrimp wonton noodles are made available. What adds a unique touch to the dining experience at Wan Chai is the subtle twist given to the usual staples, snacks and beverages of a typical cha chan teng, simply by blending in ingredients of another culture, such as the teriyaki beef with onion and mushroom steamed rice and baked seafood rice with wasabi cheese. 繼續閱讀

Wan Chai always seems to be very crowded and seats are quite limited. Fortunately, there are only two of us so we can skip a few people ahead and get seats as it is much easier to seat two than 3 or 4. We ordered desserts as we already had our main meal. I ordered the traditional dessert, the almond paste while my friend got the barley beancurd sweet soup. We shared the two bowls among the both of us and I have to say I preferred my almond paste. The almond paste here is thick and rich and it has a nice fragrance of almond. It is also not too sweet. On the other hand, the barley beancurd is just normal and I felt that the soup has more sugar taste than from the taste of barley/beancurd. I personally wouldn't order that again, but the almond paste is worth trying! 繼續閱讀

We were shopping around Lot 1 for some gifts and when we are finally done, we headed over to Wan Chai for some cheap and good Hong Kong cuisine to satisfy our rumbling tummies.Shrimp Dumpling Noodle ($5.90++)I've always preferred the Hong Kong version of preparing Shrimp Dumpling Noodles to the Malaysian ones, reason being it tastes more original (without all the sweet sauce submerging the noodles and you could truly enjoy the natural flavours of the ingredients) . We found the noodles to be quite springy and chewy. The dumplings, however, were the true star of this simple dish - big, juicy and solid! Oh, and did I mention that their chili sauce is a definite must-try? Ginko Nut with Barley ($2.30++) The dessert, however, paled in comparison to the staple. It was quite sweet and pretty average. Perhaps the various pastes might be a better choice? Overall, it was still a good, simple and authentic HK fare that is value for money! 繼續閱讀

This meal was so disappointing on so many levels I can't even begin to describe it. Firstly, it is called Eel with Lettuce and Seaweed, but I could barely see any seaweed and I surely did not see a single piece of lettuce. The eel was thin and very stale. I could barely finish the whole thing! I regret spending $9.80 on this, it is definitely not worth it. Will definitely stick with the more conventional Hong Kong food that Wan Chai offers next time. 繼續閱讀

Was looking for a place to have dinner at lot 1 but most places were quite packed. We headed for the basement of lot 1 and was surprised to find wan chai half empty!! And since the prices look pretty reasonable, comparable to food court, maybe just $1 or $2 more, we decide to settle for dinner there!! We ordered two plates of wanton shrimp noodles (dry) and a cup of yuan yang! The shrimp wantons were big and rather filling, so it's quite worth it. But the dish was abit salty and maybe more vegetables could take the salty taste away. Yuan yang was thick and sweet! By the time we left, the place was full! A good place to go if you want to go with lesser crowd! 繼續閱讀
