The inconspicuous cafe at Toa Payoh Central is located at the back alley where KOI is located, opposite the HDB hub. Wheat Baumkuchen is known for their daily baked Baumkuchen. What is Baumkuchen? It is a layered cake made up of 15-20 layers of batter which when sliced reveals the tree rings effect. The Baumkuchen also comes in a variety of toppings and flavours. In this post, I am not going to talk about their Baumkuchen. You can read more about their products on their website at http://www.wheatbaumkuchen.com/products_baumkuchen_01.htmToday I am going to introduce you to their new menu, COOL NOODLE. This is probably the first in Singapore. A new concept of eating noodles in a healthy and cool refreshing way.There are 5 types of Cool Noodle available on the menu at $4.80 per plate and they are named as Dolphin, Polar Bear, Penguin, Seal and Reindeer. The Seal Cool Noodle comes with white noodles in roasted sesame sauce with sauteed pork, tofu, carrot and cucumber. Initially I was quite sceptical how by simply putting some salad and cold noodle together can make a tasty noodle dish. After tasting it, I have to applaud the concept and the roasted sesame sauce really brought the dish together.The Penguin Cool Noodle was the other I tried which comes with green soba noodles in roasted sesame sauce with shredded chicken, fried eggs, carrot and cucumber. It tasted as good as the "Seal". I think the Cool Noodle concept will be received very well by the public especially the ladies. It is something new, refreshing and healthy. Not only have I heard raving reviews about this place; they have also been featured on 8 days hence this place deserves a shot. When I saw a deal online closer to valentines, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to find out on what I've been missing out on!The deal was for a valentine's day cake (which were shaped as two hearts and coated with chocolate). It truly looked amazing. Not only did it look amazing, it tasted mind blowing as well.I did not expect much when I first entered the pastry bar. It was located under a hdb flat and looked ordinary. They also provided outdoor seating for people who were dining in. They offered main courses as well as desserts (mainly cakes).The cake was covered was granche chocolate and was of two hearts joint together. The chocolate had a pretty thick coating and tasted rich. The cake tasted somewhat like it has been layered (texture was like kueh lapis). It was not too sweet and tasted pretty light. Perfect for those tea parties.The cakes also make perfect gifts as they come in such a lovely box! I heard good things about the restaurant, but haven't had the chance to try it until today. I chose the Penguin cold noodles that had shredded chicken and egg on green soba noodles with roasted sesame sauce. <div><br></div><div>Being really greedy, I added on a water chestnut drink and a chocolate baumkuchen bringing the total from $4.80 to $8. The serving portion was unexpectedly huge and value for money. The flavours blend well. I think the best compliment to a chef is an empty plate. The woman beside me also emptied her plate in 5 minutes flat. About the baumkuchen, it felt a bit too dry for my taste. The classic one is worth a try though. 繼續閱讀

I had lunch with my colleaguesI ordered the penguin set which contain chicken & egg slices with fresh cucumbers & carrots with oilve oil It cost $4.90 & add $2 for a piece of cake The noodles is cold & refreshingNice to eat during hot weather Their cake is very nice 繼續閱讀

I first tried Baumkuchen's cake in the 1990s when my Japanese friend bought me a box from Japan.Since then,a box of Baumkuchen's cake is always my request as a souvenir from my many Japanese friends coming to Singapore.And when it opened in Toa Payoh ,i was very excited and went hunting specially for this shop.Had the green tea cake and was disapponted that it was not as soft as the version my friends bought from Japan,in fact it tasted dry and sweet to me.Maybe it is the process in making the cake as i could see hugh rolls are being exposed to air when i went to this outlet for the first time just like they are trying to dry the rolls of cake! 繼續閱讀
