Having seen the advertisements in Orchid for Wild Honey I just had to try it out. So I ask a friend for brunch to the branch in Scott’s Square. Looking at the varied menu I choose the Grilled Ruben. When it arrives the my mouth starts to water and it doesn’t disappoint. The pastrami, cheese, sauerkraut, dressing and crispy rye is very good. The chips could be better but that won’t stop me ordering this tasty sandwich again.

The Norwegian - $26

(Avocardo, grilled asparagus spears, two perfectly poached eggs wrapped with Norwegian smoked salmon, homemade Hollandaise sauce and salmon pearls on wholewheat brioche)

Well, my expectations for the breakfast at Wild Honey were sky-high because one simply does not pay $26 for a plate of eggs benedict. Even the fact that there were Ikura in the dish did not justify for the hefty amount we had to pay. So yeap, when I saw the words "perfectly poached eggs" on the menu, I expected my egg yolk to drizzle over the perfectly toasted brioche with I sliced into it but yet, I was disappointed. My eggs were slightly overcooked, and the rest of the dish was just ordinary.

English - $25

(The foil works, scrambled eggs, canadian back bacon, cuberlad pork sausages, sauteed mushrooms, Dad's baked beans, breakfast potatoes, grilled cine ripened tomato and signature brioche)

The dish took a turn and in a good way. The scrambled eggs were smooth and creamy. The back bacon was tender and the pork sausage was seasoned well. The brioche was probably one of the best I've had, and even the baked beans were superb. Thumbs up to the breakfast potatoes too! Loved how crispy it was!

European - $20

(Wild honey's version of eggs benedict with two perfectly poached eggs, sauteed mushroom, imported Italian prosciutto, homemade hollandaise sauce on the signature brioche)

The eggs were poached perfectly in this one and the prosciutto added a good balance to the entire dish. But $20 for this? Nope.

Caribbean - $20

(Coconut waffles bound with fresh passion fruit cream, fresh baby bananas and slices of mangoes, toasted coconut flakes and passion fruit syrup)

The waffles were fluffy and moist. This was actually my favorite dish out of the lot, other than the big breakfast! I could taste coconut in the waffle batter, and the passion fruit syrup complemented the waffles and the fresh fruits perfectly.

Atmosphere:

The interior was cool and very cosy. Sofa seats were available and there was even a semi-outdoor seating which overlooked a great view. This place is perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon or an avenue to unwind with a group of friends.

Service:

I wasn't exactly impressed with the manager's attitude (So rude omg). Other than that, food was served promptly and the service staff was rather approachable.

Atmosphere: 8/10

Price: 5/10

Although i made a reservation, due to a blunder on my part, it became invalid, it being the day before instead of the day of the supposed reservation but lucky for us the restaurant was relatively empty (and remained so for the rest of the evening) so we got our seats immediately.

Before i start on the food, i had to comment on the ambience and environment surrounding the WH outlet at Scotts Square. It is quite classy, with comfy cushion chairs and a waitering service instead of ordering over a counter service. But we were a little put off that they didn't allow us to serve the birthday cake at their restaurant and so we had to do it somewhere else.

Okay, now the good stuff. The food.
They serve all-day breakfast items so we had the luxury of enjoying bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, baked beans with potateoes and brioche. And my gosh, i am normally not a big fan of potatoes, but it tastessssss damn good. Their brioche is quite a thick slice so it was a very filling meal.

My friends ordered some of their other items on the menu:

Overall i had say the ambience was pretty good, just the service could be better. It was relatively quiet on a tuesday evening so we got to stay more than the stipulated 1 hour.

The outlet at Scotts Square is newer, set in dim, intimate lightings with a blend of vintage-modernistic furnishings to give it a plush but homely feel. The balcony alfreco dining area looked inviting as well, but that evening's searing weather gave us pause to venture. We stayed indoors in the cool comfort of couches, electrical lights made to resemble candlelights and soft music in the background - the perfect catching-up place as well.

*L had the Spanish Hash Breakfast (SGD$24.00) with diced chorizo, corned beef, potato cubes, grilled ciabatta, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce. The house corned beef was succulent and flavorful, and the complement by potato dices made the dish immediately wholesome in a homecooked manner. Paired with the crispy ciabatta, this was another great choice.

As for me, I had the Scandinavian breakfast again (SGD$28.00), consisting of asparagus, crispy potato rosti, grilled salmon and homemade Hollandaise sauce, with the sweetest cherry tomatoes. This is almost my signature dish everytime I eat at Wild Honey - the tender salmon paired with appetite whetting crispy potato and asparagus are all my favorite things.

Iced Latte ($7.00), and Queen Bee ($9.00) which consists of ruby red grapefruit, elder flower and honey for a refreshing taste. I personally find it bitter instead of refreshing...

Imported Norwegian Smoked Salmon ($10.00).

European ($19.00) consisting of two poached eggs, sauteed mushrooms, imported Italian prosciutto, homemade hollandaise sauce on signature brioche. Toast is quite hard, and yolks are not as runny I would love to have, but delicious to finish up.

English ($24.00) consisting of scrambled eggs, Canadian back bacon, Cumberland pork sausage, sauteed mushrooms, dad's baked beans, breakfast potatoes, grilled vine ripened tomato and signature brioche. Scrambled eggs can be a little dry, but still soft to slice and chew. My favorites are the sausage and potatoes

Even though it's stated in their website that they accept reservations for branch at Scotts Square, several calls made were not attended. If you really love to have your meal at Wild Honey, best is to head down and queue. Oh, at least they do accept on-site reservation

Previously I've tried the Wild honey located at Mandarin Gallery, I really dislike the service there. Comparing the one at Scotts, the service was so much better and the food was served pretty fast within a span of 10 mins after we ordered. I had the tunisian and my friend had the Norwegian for brunch. I pretty much like the food and the whole ambience and the serving was huge. I couldnt finish it.

I ordered European, $19.90. It's their Signature dish!

The two poached eggs are PERFECT. Runny but not raw.

The Italian prosciutto are a tad too salty though. However, it's still acceptable when eaten with the bread. The bread is really nice when combined with the jam they made! The jam really impressed me as I'm not a big jam-lover. It isn't too sweet and it doesn't make one feel sick of its taste. You'd want more of it after just one taste!

The mushrooms are also very good! Eat a mouthful of bits of everything to enjoy the mix of tastes in your mouth!

My friend wasn't too hungry so she had the Chicken Chop Chop salad. It has a unique combination of ingredients, with fried shredded wanton and cashew nuts together with chicken breast meat. I felt that they added too much of the fried shredded wanton, which spoiled the taste of the dish and was quite a disappointment.

I was attending an event at the restaurant where I am served Caribbean Breakfast. It is coconut waffles bound with fresh passion fruit creme patisserie, fresh baby bananas & slices of mango, toasted coconut flakes & passion fruit syrup. The waffles are cold and damp. I am quite disappointed that they are not crispy at all. The syrup that served with it is quite watery and light in taste.

For breakfast i ordered the standard all day English which comes with scrambled eggs, back bacon, cumberland pork sausage, sauteed mushroom, Dad's baked beans, breakfast potatoes, grilled vine ripened tomato and signature brioche (french pastry). All these for $24. My friend's tunisian looks nice as well ($19, sizzling pan of tomato, onion, red pepper, chilli) and so is the brittany ($20, panettone french toast stacked with fresh bananas with caramel sauce).

We LOVE Wild Honey. They have the BEST eggs in SG. Truly. And contrary to reports, the service here is pretty alright. Professional, warm and enthusastic.

We always hit up the Scotts Square outlet, because they take reservations. And, even if we're unable to get reservations, the counter seats are always available (these aren't up for reservations so as to leave availability for walk-ins).

We had:

1) Portobello Road ($22): aka eggs benedict, was a duo of brioche towers layered with perfectly poached eggs on wilted spinach atop juicy baked portobello, spiced with sweet melted onions and coloured peppers, and a slathering of homemade Hollandaise sauce. I'm usually not a fan of Hollandaise sauces coz I find them too rich and cloying but Wild Honey's rendition is so utterly delicious. It was at the same time smooth, creamy, light and balanced

2) Tunisian ($19) a sizzling skillet pan of shakshouka - eggs fried in a cumin-and-paprika-spiced mix of tomatoes, onions, peppers, and studded with chorizo. Delicately spicy with sweetish elements, this was mouth-wateringly delicious and great soul food for chilly weather. A couple of thick buttery brioche were on hand to wipe up every last drop of the lip-smackingly good sauce while a crisp cucumber-centric Israeli salad cut through the grease and spice with its uplifting freshness

3) English ($24): basically the full works with heavenly scrambled eggs (these managed an incredible fluffiness that wasn't assisted by the heavy taste of cream), back bacon, a chunkily textured Cumberland pork sausage, juicy sauteed mushrooms, Dad's baked beans (enlivened with bacon and chili flakes), breakfast potatoes, grilled vine ripened tomatoes and 2 slices of their signature buttery brioche. Hearty solid stuff

4) Sauteed Shitake and Button Mushrooms ($6): simply seasoned with salt and pepper to leave the focus on the naturally juicy flavour of the fungi, then sprinkled with chives for an uplifting freshness

For lunch, I ordered the Tunisian Breakfast ($19). Wild Honey's all-day-breakfast dining concepts are renowned and has inspired the brunch scene in Singapore while at the same time capturing hearts of fans (as well as converting new ones) with their extensive breakfast selections. They offer pancakes as well as different variations of American breakfasts -Santa Fe, California, New York etc. They also offer Mexican, Tunisian, Greek, English and Caribbean style breakfasts. Exotic, I agree. But do they really live up to their name in offering a spread that is not only authentic but also delectable? I wouldn't be so sure.

The Tunisian Breakfast was really much better than I expected. It came in a pan (which was sizzling hot
) filled with chorizo (an Italian sausage), red peppers, two fried eggs, all drenched in a tomatoey stew-like sauce. The taste of the sauce was interesting, it was slightly spicy but also a bit sweet. I suspect that tomatoes were used as a base in this. It was a bit watery for my liking, but when eaten piping hot it was gorgeous! When left to sit for awhile however, the cold seeps into the stew and it starts to taste quite awful, unfortunately. Served with a side of thick toast and Israeli salad, I would say that these complemented the stew very well. The bread was lightly toasted so it was crisp at the edges but fluffy on the inside. I absolutely ADORED the bread. The Israeli salad was basically diced tomatoes and japanese cucumber (a bit ironic, haha!) tossed in olive oil, parsley and some lemon juice. Maybe even a dash of pepper.

Eating this dish as a whole, it's an explosion of flavour on your tongue -sweet, tangy, spicy, savoury. It splashes color on your frontal lobes, a sudden jolt when the flavours fuse. It's an interesting experience that all feels very colorful, but as quickly as the jolt comes, it leaves. There is just not enough to sustain the 'wow' factor. To top it all off, one has to pay at least 20-something for a meal here. A bit on the steep side for a price that does not justify the value of the food, in my opinion!

You'll either love Wild Honey or hate it, depending on what you choose to have as well as your taste preferences. Wild Honey does not season most of their food (especially eggs and mushrooms) if there is ham -this is under the assumption that ham is already salty and they do not want to over-season the food. While I agree that this method helps diners to taste the true flavour of the ingredients, this over-emphasises the raw taste of the ingredients and draws attention to the fact is the food is just...bland. I believe that everything should be seasoned, even if just very lightly. The saltiness of the ham alone is just not enough!

Service here is excellent though, way way better than the Mandarin Gallery branch. It was from the heart, and sincere. They don't hurry through any diners and make sure they will acquiesce to any requests if it is within their means. Courteous and commendable!

ps. Do check the menus before you go over because the SS and MG branch has slight variations in their menu items: for example, the Scotts Square branch offers the Caribbean breakfast.
