It was my first time to visit this restaurant even thoght it also has overseas branch in Taiwan.I wanna be a local singaporean and the best way is to have a traditional breakfast first!Yakun is known for the representative singaporefoods, like the kaya toasts!(i really love it!)They offered the breakfast set to those who were not familiar with the sg foods, and it included several kaya toasts(maybe3~4 pieces),a dish of two soft boiled eggs and a cup of hot/cold milktea I ordered cold milk tea , it was different from the HK style cuz hk style was more bitter and yakun's was more sweeter, but still tasted good!Actually I was confused about the eggs and i did not dare to eat them cuz they were raw!but the clerk taught me to add some peppers and soy sauce to cover its fishy taste, and it really changed my subjective opinion, they tasted like the salty tofu pudding with soft, subtle and give the feeling of slippery in the mouth. You are my fav!the kaya toast is the most unforgettable SG snack for me !I even brought a jar of kaya jam homeTheir toasts without crusts and had the crisp covers, and the kaya jam wasnt oversweet,I really dont know how to explain the taste, anyway it was amazing!Overall, it was really a good restaurant and I will visit again as soon as I can  繼續閱讀

Opened since 1930s, started from humble coffee shop turns to the national treasure. Ya Kun is well known for its kaya and self roasted coffee beans. Only for $1.20, you will be able to enjoy a cup of aromatic coffee.Four slices of toasted bread with a generous spread of Ya Kun Kaya, two soft boiled egg and one cup of freshly brew coffee is the ionic breakfast set for many Singaporean.Even after so many years, Ya Kun didn't stop progressing. They keep inventing new items and this is their new invention (not the original).Soft steamed bun with a thick spread of Kaya and a cold piece of butter in the middle. When the warm bread met the cold butter, the heat slowly melted away the butter. The bread soaked up the melting butter, not wasting a single drop. Dripping into the soft boiled egg created the prefect match. 繼續閱讀

Newly renovated with a fresh look, Ya Kun was no longer humble coffee corner but a modern stylish spot to chill out. Seats were arranged neatly and clean, we need to place orders at the counter before sitting down. Number plate was given, we waited our food to be served. Prompt and accurate, waiting time was roughly 10 minutes. Too bad Barley in warm was so-so, nothing to scream of. I still prefer the very traditional toast with Kaya Butter, sweet for my liking. Irresistibly butter fragrant was perfectly matched with thick Pandan paste, crunchy layer was a simple way to enjoy. French toast was on the other hand softly in texture with slight eggy flavoured, bread was cut into eight little pieces for bite size purpose. Don’t worry about the price, it was wallet-friendly always. 繼續閱讀

There is outdoor and indoor dinning style for customer to choose which place to sit. At that time, there are not much people eating at this restaurant so we are quick to be able to find a table (Free seating) and started to order our food.Coffee and tea are good but what gives it the better points in my case is the olden days type of cups being used here. Though smaller in size, it reminds me of how I used to pour the tea or coffee on the plate to let it cool down before drinking it from the plate instead of the cup. Good old days.Bread are being mixed together with egg before frying it waiting for you to dip it into the kaya. Great taste though the toast is not as crispy due to the addition of egg on it.Same as French toast except that this one include cheese in the center of the toast and you will be able to eat the cheese melted within the toast. Great taste again and most suitable for those who love to eat cheesy food. I think it would be even better in term of taste if they used those mozzarella cheese on these cheesy french toast instead to give it a super cheesy feel when you bite onto the toast.Bread are being toasted and spread with a generous serving of kaya before adding in a small piece of butter (Stingy on this). Taste is great and loves their kaya taste together with butter. It does brings me back to the days when I was still a kid eating these type of breakfast dishes with my Grand father / father while they talk with their friends over a cup of coffee for breakfast. 繼續閱讀
