It was my friend first time making egg tarts. So we planned to wash them down with a cup of coffee. If any of my foreign friends asked me which coffee shop I usually visited, Ya Kun will be my first choice. A aromatic cup of kopi electrify my smell and excited my taste bud for the upcoming egg tarts. Their coffee had a strong roasted smell and nutty finish. The best thing was that it costed less than S$2.   繼續閱讀

This is usually our usual hangout place after visiting our favourites merchandise in Funan.FoodYa Kun has gained its reputation over the years, famous for its half boil egg and toasts - their standard is there as it is not easy to catch the timing of boiling the half boiled egg. Abit over cook or under cook, the eggs will be headed directly into the trash!Ordered a peanut toast set which consists of a bowl of hard bowl egg, a play of peanut toast and a drink (tea/coffee) but I have changed to Silky Barely. It was indeed a very hot day outside. We decided to get the largest sillkyz barley with ice to cool our body down. The smaller barley comes from the set ordered while the bigger one is the additional.First time ever tried Yakun's Peanut toast. I will prefer the butter-kaya toast to the peanut. This is because that the bread is quite dry and together with the peanut butter jam, it makes everything turns drier no doubt that the bread is toasted till very cripsy.Comes in a basket of 8. The kaya balls (at $3.00) are new on menu, kaya are well sealed inside the doughy shell and presented on a basket, presentation seems different - instead of placing in the usual red color plate. After munching few pieces of the kaya balls, i felt very sick of it. The coating of the dough is not as cripsy as I thought, and instead it was quite moist together with the kaya inside. I feel like eating dough. Luckily we share among ourselves. We were sitting at one corner and there was this sign that mentioned not to lean. It's a partition where the sauces(pepper, soya sauce for the eggs) are placed. Flimsy as it said.ServiceSemi Self service. If they cannot give your order instantly. They will give you a number and your order will be sent to your table respectively. Also, they are quite slow in clearing the tables. As customers, we have to clear the tables ourselves before tucking in ourselves.AmbienceThe seats are never enough usually on a weekend. Imagine Yakun's tables and chairs size are already limited, the dinning area are just too small especially during peak hours. Since its located in Funan mall where most of the dinners will have a teabreak there after buying computers/cameras etc, they should think of having bigger space for dinners to place their stuff.PricePrice is standard across all its outlets. As for the kaya balls, there's nothing significant about them. More room for improvement.Recommendation / TipsBe prepared to clear tables if you want to dine there. 繼續閱讀

That weekend we were in Funan IT mall for gadget shopping. As the shop we wanted to visit were not opened yet. We decided to have a early tea break. My partner ordered the kaya toast set, which consists of 2 pieces of toast spread with kaya and butter, tea and two half boiled eggs. The half boiled eggs were cooked just right not overcooked or undercooked. I like it with dark soya sauce and pepper. It was cooked as per what was brought down from the first generation. 繼續閱讀

I think ya kun toast is one of the nicest one around. I like the fact that they used chilled butter in their toast. I had to remove the top part of the toast to show the chilled butter. The butter is whole think intact. I know of some places where they actually use margarine and kaya. Only butter can give you a creamy and buttery fragrance. the butter actually makes the kaya taste a lot nicer. 繼續閱讀

I stopped by Ya Kun Kaya Toast for my evening tea on my way home form work, since I need my cuppa Tea to boast & refresh my spirits. I ordered for a tea & a french toast. The tea was served immediately, but the toast took 3-5 minutes to be served. The toast finally arrived & was freshly made. It was served with Kaya. It was a thick slice of toast that was quite filling. The french toast was crispy and at the same time soft & well cooked.Enjoyed my evening tea & French toast . 繼續閱讀
