Water chestnut cake is a sweet Cantonese dim sum dish made from chopped Chinese water chestnut. Water chestnut flour is the key ingredient for this cake. Water chestnut flour is the key ingredient for this cake. Usually the cake is cut into square shaped slices and pan fried before serving.

So far, Imperial Treasure Nan Bei Restaurant has one of the best water chestnut cake I ever tasted. Though the cake is soft, but holds its shape even after frying. There is a generous amount of chopped water chestnut in each piece of cake. The trademark characteristic of this dish is its translucent appearance.

Whether taken hot (panfried) or stored in the refrigerator is just as good.

Here’s a photo of a plate of Water chestnut cake which we requested for take-away. It was stored in the refrigerator and later served as a cold snack. Still very fresh and crunchy.

Priced around S$3.00 per plate for two reasonable sized water chestnut cake.
This dish is a must in our selected menu at each visit to Imperial Nan Bei Restaurant.
