Marché is probably one of my favorite restaurants at the moment. It’s been quite a while now, but I’ve yet to get tired of it. The ambience, needless to say, is certainly up there – the very attentive to detail Swiss decorations, wooden tables and chairs, with the semi-dimly lit dining areas make the whole experience a better one. Just, don’t, sit near the kids’ section. It kills everything.
Let’s start with my favorites. Deep-fried Calamari Rings :: It’s to die for. I’ve yet to hear any negative feedback about it. The price has recently gone down a dollar (which makes it even more worthy). They seem to have a secret recipe for this or sorts, because it’s addictive (maybe they added some Mamee Monster Snack MSG packs) and you keep wanting more. Once you pop, you can’t stop! lol. Chocolate Chip Ice Cream :: It tastes better than Ben & Jerry’s and Haagen Dazs – no exaggeration. It’s sweet with a little bitterness, what I like to call – bitterbutwithmoresweetness. Exactly for my liking, and apparently for most others too.
Tasmanian Oysters ($3.00+ for 1; $16.00+ for 6) :: It took my virgin away just today, sucking it to my content (ahhhh). No, but really, it looks fresh (it was a closed shell, opened right in front of our eyes), it smells fresh (the good smell was addictive as glue, we kept smelling it even after finishing the oyster), and more importantly, it tastes fresh. Everything was just right, everything was spot-on. Nothing much to say, except that now, I have another thing to add to my must-haves every time I visit Marché.
Grilled Salmon/Snapper/Seabass Fillet ($14.50 – $14.90+) :: It’s either that or the ‘Catch of the Day’ I’ll have as my main course with every visit. I usually alternate between the latter two. It’s done, more often than not, just well done.
Moving on to other courses.
Crepe :: It’s about $10.90+, with $2.00+ for every additional topping. I like it with blackforest ham + mushroom. What’s cool is you can ask the server to cut it into whatever portion you’d like. If you have 3 persons sharing, 3 equal portions! You don’t have to mess up the whole dish to share with your friends.
Paella :: I’ll always discourage my friends to try this. I’ve tasted it once, and condemned it since. lol. This Spanish Rice, mhm, has this weird taste to it.
Rosti :: The plain rosti with sour cream costs around $4.90 – $5.90+, and it’s well worth it. It’s filling (although it doesn’t look so when it’s placed in front of you). If you want something to go along with it, just go for the egg. I do not think that the rest are worth it (sausages, which costs about $5 or so extra, same goes for the salmon – it doesn’t taste good anyway).
Pasta :: Please don’t try this rubber-like thing.
One thing I’ve yet to try is their pizza. It looks appealing enough, and I have no idea why I still haven’t tried it. lol. Soon, soon, I hope.
—-> NOTE #1: If it’s your first time there, each of you will get the Marché Card (look at the first picture). It’s like a Credit Card – you pass the card to the server of the store after you’ve given your order to him. He’ll swipe the card and return it to you. Then you’re good to go. Do not lose the card, as it says behind the card, it costs you $100. And no, I have no idea what happens when you spend more than $100 on one card and you break it into two. lol. Anyways, I’m sure anyone would enjoy their trip there.
—-> NOTE #2: Go to their toilet. It’s neatly furnished, you’d be sure to have the ‘feel’ to go release whatever you are there to release in the first place. lol.
