Chinta Manis located at Greenwich Village sells a wide range of traditional Nyonya Kueh. Whenever i pass by this stall, i will buy my fav nonya kueh which is the colorful layered kueh. The kueh has a nice rich color and it has the nice aroma of coconut and panda. I have the habit of eating one layer at a time, the kueh is very soft and slightly chewy. My sister brought this for the family. The most special bread i ever eaten. The center of the bread is stuffed with mashed potato and ham. The mashed potato seasoned with light black pepper. One of the newest creations by Breadtalk. The black color bun is known as claypot chicken bun for $2.00. The bun got a bit of charcoal taste. The filling is chinese style three cup chicken. I eaten their nasi lemak for many times. I always ordered the the set that got everything for $5.00. This set got fried chicken wing, otak, fried egg and begedil . The rice got strong coconut taste. The mango sago dessert is my favourite mango dessert. A bowl is $4.50. It is a big bowl of mango puree with cubes of fresh mango and sago in it. The mango turned out to be quite sour this time. The mango puree also not very sweet. It will be nicer if it is sweeter. It served cold so still refreshing. The overall standard is quite average. I came to realise this new stall replaced the old one. I still tried. I ordered the $5 one with meatball and sliced beef. It got salted vegetable and peanuts also. The thick bee hoon was cooked to soft. The sauce quite disappointing. The taste is diluted and not sticky enough to stick on the thick bee hoon. The meatball and sliced beef tasted okay. Had an early lunch with my colleague. He suggested we try the braised duck rice from this stall. I ordered one with braised egg for $3.50. The rice was the yam rice that i like. The duck meat was soft and not very chewy. It did not taste salty too. The braised egg was only normal. The overall standard is okay. I ordered the $3 plate. The noodle was a lot more than i expected. The noodle cooked quite nice and it was soft and springy. It got vegetable, char siew, normal wanton and fried wanton. Had lunch with a business partner here after our meeting. He recommended me to try the herbal soups from this famous soup stall. I ordered the lotus root soup with rice for $5.00. The soup was full of ingredients. It got lotus root, peanuts and pork ribs too. The soup got nice peanut taste and not salty. The texture of pork ribs was soft and not chewy. I have eaten the fried kway teow many times. The taste this time was not as good, a sign of fluctuating quality of their food. The queue was long when I ordered the $4 one. The whole plate is mainly kway teow and mee with beansprouts. The Chinese sausage, egg and fishcake was hardly to be seen. The taste was normal; the standard is different. Wanted a hot dessert after dinner so i got a warm cheng tng from this dessert stall as it was a rainy cold evening. I got a warm one for $1.20. It was luke warm with some barley, lotus seeds, ginko, white fungus and also dried longan in it. It did not taste very sweet. The soup got diluted longan taste. The overall taste was not bad. I tried the ayam penyet and it was nice. The set is $6.50. Got to order the white rice for $1.00. The fried chicken breast was crispy but a bit oily. The meat was tender and soft. The chicken served with raw cabbage and long bean. The chilli was a bit sweet but very spicy. The meal was filling and worth it. I will come back to try other dishes. Went early so no queue. Ordered the spring ramen for $11.90. Added $2.00 for the flavored egg. The ramen is quite filling. It got basil and cheese to add taste to the ramen. The cheese taste is not too strong. The charsu was quite tender. I like to add a lot of their marinated beansprouts to my ramen and also their free flow of boiled eggs. I was hungry so had nasi goreng and skip the prata. The nasi goreng is $3 per plate. They fried it when ordered so it got a nice warm when served to me. The noodle is enough for me. They fried quite well so the texture was quite soft. It did not taste spicy. The nasi goreng got few slices of cucumber with tomato sauce on it. The cucumber still crunchy and fresh.
