Everytime I went for grocery shopping, I always wanted to dine in at Chinta Manis. But during meal times was always full house. Today after lunch time, i managed to grab a seat to have a meal there.I ordered their house special Nasi Lemak. The nasi lamak came and i could smell the coconut rice aroma. The sambal chili was spicy but a little too salty. The fried chicken was cooked in satay chili sauce. The skin was spicy and the meat was tender, though not as meaty as i thought. There were also ikan bilis, begedil and azar to go with the rice. continue reading

This confectionary shop sells lots of different types of kuehs and other peranakan snacks. They called themselves a peranakan pattisier even! I especially like the agar agar here which is really delicious. They come in small squares and i had the blue coloured agar agar. The Jelly had good coconut flavour and was not too sweet. It was just delicious was eaten cold! I also liked the ondeh ondeh that they served here. continue reading

I went to King Albert park to buy some things from Cold Storage with my mum and my brother. We were all feeling a little hungry, so we went over to Chinta Manis to grab a bite. We ordered the set, which consisted of a drink, coffee or tea, and 2 kueh of our choice. As for me, I chose the Mango Sago Agar Agar and my brother chose the Rainbow Agar Agar. I tried the rainbow agar agar before, so I wanted to try something different. Hmmm. The agar agar was a little hard, but I could taste the mango really well and the sago could be found too. It was nice. It wasn't too sweet, neither was it too tasteless. The next time I go, I might have a hard time deciding between the rainbow agar agar and the mango sago agar agar. continue reading

This particular Nonya shop was quite new. Personally, I don't really fancy kueh and stuffs, but I like the coffee. They have a promotional set, $2.80, which includes two kueh (max $0.90 each) and cup of coffee or tea. Today, I have my kids with me so I decided to have them select the kueh. They selected the sago mango jelly and the multi colour jelly. Of course I have my coffee. I also bought the Oneh Oneh (the only kueh I like). I like the feeling of the liquid gula maleka 'oosing' out when you chew on one of the oneh oneh. This one has the right sweetness. They also have a gift set of 25 pieces of Kueh for $20. Thought of buying one set for my next party. continue reading
