Went out have brunch with my parents. We wanted to head over to White Bee Hoon *opp of Chye Lye Restaurant* however it was filled with a lot of people. My parents did not like to wait for too long and so we headed over Chye Lye Restaurant Fish Head Curry. When I stepped into the restaurant, I saw a few newspaper articles pasted on the wall and near to the cashier area. At first I thought the food might be pretty tasty that is why it is being advertised in the newspapers. However, I guess it was only the Curry Fish Head that is nice but not other dishes. I ordered Braised Assorted Vegetables, Luo Han Zai(罗汉斋)as this is one of my favourite dishes whenever I have my meals at zi char Restaurants. First of all, the vegetables were not fresh, even though you can't tell from this picture. I believe the chef did not cook the vegetables long enough as some of it were tough to bite. I took a close up shot of the food and hence it looked rather big, but the portion was in fact very little.Next up, my parents ordered Tofu Braised in Red Sauce, Hong Shao Tofu ( 红烧豆腐). As the name suggests, the sauce is supposedly to be red. But as you can see from the pic, the sauce is just like the normal hot plate tofu sauce, nothing special, taste is just like normal tofu dishes with few pieces of braised meat. I don't see any uniqueness in it. After this visit, I don't think I will be going back for the second time. continue reading

As seen in the shop's name, this place's specialty is fish head curry. I think the curry is quite thick and portion is generous. I like the taupok inside but the curry vegetables were just a tad too much. The fish however is really fresh. In the end, I think it's pretty decent. We also tried the abalone sauce tofu. The tofu is supposedly home-made (no idea what's the difference) but tasted quite normal (i.e soft). continue reading

Tried their fish head curry. Their curry is more of assam style. It's a bit sour and spicy at the same time. When you try this dish, you should have it with rice or bread (if you're opting for a lighter choice). The fish head curry here is also much cheaper than many other places that I've tried before. The fish head curry cost $25 and an extra $1 if you're taking it out. And the fish head is both sides, which means plenty of meat for 4 people to share. continue reading
