Jones The Grocer was among the first few cafes in Singapore to popularize the concept of brunch, and it's still going strong today, as evident by the long queues on weekends.
Jones The Grocer has the ambience of a gourmet grocery store with a modern and casual cafe. It's really appealing to walk in and immediately be greeted by the sight of fresh produce, cheeses and meats, and the scent of bread and cheese. The entire store has a very homely, comforting feel... You wouldn't feel out of place if you wore slippers, shorts and a t-shirt here!
I find the service at Jones The Grocer to be excellent. Staff will greet you before seating you, and despite the long queues, the line moves rather quickly. Waiting time is about 15 minutes or less, thanks to the well-handled seat staggering arrangements.
Thumbs up for their handling of unexpected situations! When a customer next to us accidently knocked over a pitcher of water, our seat got wet as well. Staff handled the clean up quickly and efficiently, and even apologised to us despite the situation not being their fault.
Specialties at Jones The Grocer include their coffee, cheeses, breads and cakes. Because they use premium ingredients, without any artificial preservatives or colouring, their food tastes really fresh and flavourful. Of course, this all comes at a price, so dining at Jones The Grocer isn't cheap... But you do get what you pay for in terms of quality food and good service. I would definitely recommend dining at Jones The Grocer!
Essentially a chocolate danish, the Pain Au Chocolate (SGD $4.50) has a yummy flaky pastry crust which shatters when bit. While there isn't much chocolate filling within, it's still pretty good quality chocolate, and not overly sweet or bitter.

One of the specialties here is the coffee, and a sip of this Latte (SGD $5) will show the pride they have in their coffee. Aromatic, full bodied and strong... Just the way I like it!

The Hot Chocolate (SGD $6) is among one of the densest I've had. While rich, the thick chocolate tends to collect at the bottom of the cup, and it also settles more quickly than others, meaning before each mouthful, vigourous stirring is required.

The Fresh Herb Omelette With Smoked Salmon & Goat's Cheese (SGD $22) features a soft, fluffy egg omelette, cooked well. Stuffed liberally with salty smoked salmon, and sour goat's cheese, the flavour of this dish is intense! Perhaps too intense on the sourness, toning it down slightly may have made this more palpable. Some salad would have helped as well, as the overall dish is very light for its price.

The Cinnamon French Toast (SGD $18) is served with mixed berries (blueberries, blackberries) and vanilla creme fraiche. A sweet and filling breakfast, the toast is good enough on its own, but paired with the fruity, tart berries, and smooth, creamy creme fraiche, make this dish a winner. Excellent!

The baguette was simply the best. It was more savory than the rest and roasted till super crisp. Served on a wooden board and deco with micro greens gave this soup a rustic feel. It was like dinning in the garden.

The batty was very thick but the bun was even bigger. Good skill from the chef, the batty was just well-done. Juicy and tender in the inside. However, the large amount of mayo and ketchup was overwhelming. They totally covered the taste of the beef. I love my burger with many fresh veg, but it was no where to be found in this burger.

The fried was crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside, but need a bit more seasoning.
The saddest thing about this meal was the handmade ketchup for the fried. There was still a raw tomato taste and the ridiculous spices. I actually bite into a coriander seed and it's taste exploded in my mouth. It was like biting into chinese five star spice.

The ultimate Big Breakfast for TWO! Sautéed Mushroom + Spinach + Hash Brown + Tomato + Scrambled Egg + Bacon + Sausage. I love Sautéed Mushrooms. It gives the dish a savory meaty feeling with a much lesser Kcal.

Scrambled Egg was silky and no rough part. Very nice done.
It was such a Bliss to finish up such a big breakfast. Personally I don't liked to eat the breakfast part by part. I liked to mix the ingredients together. Tried to have everything in one bite. With the savory and fatty bacon, it made everything tasted better. The best thing to do after devoting this big breakfast is to crawl back into bed and slowly "dream" off this big meal!!!

Honestly, Jones need to change their Sausages. It was simply the most disgusting sausages I ever tried. I couldn't recognize the meat inside and everything fall apart in my mouth. It was like eating dough but in a shape of a sausage.

Omelet for the win. One egg with two different texture. Slightly harden on the outside but soft and creamy in the inside. Smoked Salmon and Goat Cheese wrapped with the egg and seasoned with lots of Parmesan. A dash of fresh grinned black pepper made this dish close to perfection.
Personally I felt that there was much Goat Cheese, as it's taste was overwhelming and covered the flavor of the Smoked Cheese. As a result, it took me a lot of effort to finish it.

Eggs Poached, Fried or Scambled with Jones Sausage, Slow Roasted Tomato, Sauteed Mushrooms, Bacon and Sourdough Toast

I ordered this because it came with lotza varieties! In fact, I think this can be shared between 2 persons if you are not too hungry. Particularly, I adored the scambled egg & the mushrooms.. yummy!

Jones Wagyu Beef Burger - $26.50
Roasted Tomato, Rocket Salad & Cheese with Jones Balsamic Onion Jam

My bf ordered this because the word "Wagyu" was simply too tempting... Hehe.

The portion was big and the burger was okay. In fact, I like the "orangish" sauce in the background that went very well with the wedges.

Overall, the dishes are pretty decent, taste wise and presentation, albeit expensive. Magazines are provided, so you can savour breakfast and cakes, while enjoying a good article. Nice way to spend a weekend afternoon indeed!

it's good, but just expensive. probably not worth coming back for when i can get better food elsewhere for cheaper (: i liked the atmosphere there though! it was good that we went just before lunch, and i guess because it's in ion, and the restaurant was pretty big, it's just nice to chill there with friends because it doesn't get too crowded.

the breakfast menu at jones was pretty limited to the standard dishes, and many of them were pretty ex! so i went for the safe option - eggs benedict ($20) with spinach and smoked ham. i was initially disappointed when it arrived because it looked so much smaller than classic bacon & eggs ($18, below)! it really seemed quite pathetic that i received such a small portion for that kind of price. not very worth it at all. but the good thing was that the taste made up for it (: the spinach was surprisingly flavourful, something i didn't expect, and the dish achieved a delicate balance of tastes that was just right. i liked how the egg was done perfectly, with the yolk flowy - like how a proper poached egg should be. and it was surprisingly filling despite it being a single egg!

the classic bacon & eggs was a really huge portion! and i really liked the roast tomato that came with it! super juicy and sweet.

the spanish baked eggs ($21) was pretty well done too! i really enjoyed the 'broth' or whatever you call that thing in the pot haha. it was laced with interesting spices such as chorizo, red peppers and tomato relish that gave it a robust piquancy.

Had their Eggs Benedict and Hot chocolate on this morning. Their Eggs Benedict was really good, with the flow out egg yolk that are really soft and smooth. The raw sliced salmon fish is very fresh and chewy, which blend in well with the egg. Simply healthy and great for everyone.

The hot chocolate is served with a nice fragrant mash mallow, which you dip in to the hot chocolate really taste great. Love those sweet heart shape design on top of this hot beverage which can really see the effect put into making this drink. The chocolate taste is thick and and not sweet.

Putting poor service aside, I ordered the Seared Scallop on Chorizo Soria ($15.50) for the entree. The lovely scallops are beautiful seared on the surface and it remained juicy and sweet within. It’s a different case for the chorizo soria, a traditional Spanish sausage, it was really tough to the bite and it’s a little too salty for my liking. Served with watercress & fennel salad in the center, this dish is as good as a light main course. Topped with saffron aioli, it complements the scallops and salad pretty well.

For my main course, the Jones Open Wagyu Beef Burger ($26.50) was a delectable delight which I fell in love with. The secret to this dish is in their Jones balsamic onion jam which gives another dimension of flavour to the burger. Served with everybody’s favourite wedges, roasted tomato and rocket salad, this is sure a hearty and balance main course. Oh, did I not mention the homemade-style wagyu beef patty is so tasty, succulent and heavenly to every bite? With the melted cheese on it, this wagyu beef burger is simply to die for. No wonder this is one of their signature dishes. I would highly recommend this to beef lovers.

I was very excited with joy when I saw that they have Tiramisu ($8.50) as it’s one my favourite dessert. Being a sweet tooth addict, I couldn’t resist but to order it. Served in a tiny glass bottle, it looks exquisite and attractive to the eyes. After tasting a spoonful of it, I feel that it tasted a little too creamy but still passable. Honestly, I feel that it could have been better with a smoother texture.

Being unsatisfied with my Tiramisu earlier on, I hope this Jones Special Hot Chocolate ($6.50) will impress my night. According to the menu, it uses 100% cacao from single origin plantations around the world including Indonesia, Venezuela & Colombia. Indeed, the taste of the hot chocolate is strong but not as creamy as I expected it to be. I can taste that they use skimmed milk, which lacks the flavour and texture compared to using full cream milk.

Overall, I will say that Jones the Grocer serve up quite a nice dinner provided you know what to order on their menu. It is also a very comfortable, casual place to dine without the noisy crowd unlike some other casual restaurants. However, the service staff I encountered was rude, unfriendly and took quite long to notice me when I wanted to order. After tasted their dinner menu, I will definitely love to try their weekend brunch as many are raving about it.

I like Jones the Grocer cause they offers a lot of tasty ‘ang mo’ food.I had the all day breakfast set, hot and savory perfectly grilled sausages were crunchy, scramble eggs were fluffy and silky, 2 slices of lightly toasted rustic looking bread goes really well with the whole dish. Buttermilk Pancakes were soft and delectable, the caramelized apples were still crunchy and sour pairs off well with the sweet and cold vanilla ice cream.Cappuccino with nice art is robust and smooth.

At 3pm on a weekend, the choice of food was rather limited. The breakfast, lunch and ala-carte menu was not available at this timing and we could only choose from the brunch menu and bakeries. The birthday mummy and I both ordered the Jones' Club sandwiches and we were quite happy with the food. The only disappointment was that they ran out of avocado and replaced it with tomato.

disappointing expensive dessert at this town outpost of the australian delicatessen newly opened on the top floor of the ion orchard mall. I wish this place actually served good food – but I think I’ll be sticking with the marmalade pantry for now - I haven’t tried their savory items, so while I can’t give you a full low-down on the cafe, the desserts sure don’t provide any impetus to return.

we had a sticky toffee pudding and a lemongrass panna cotta, both rather doleful renditions. the toffee pud looked great but the ice cream was icy and the cake was microwaved. the pannacotta was an insult to its name – this was a firm pudding, closer in texture to and gelatinous like an asian mango pudding, almost bouncy. that lemongrass proved a soapy aftertaste – coupled with the jelliness of the pannacotta, it felt almost like eating some sort of soap gel.

I do wish this place had worked out – but it really didn’t. it’s just as expensive as you’d expect it to be – not ridiculous for the area but you’re much better off going shopping with that money.

What motivated me to enter this restaurant was the setting - it was simple yet unique, reminds me vaguely of a countryside cottage restaurant, but in a dark coloured theme. There were no sofa seats, everybody had to settle comfortably in upright seats. I spent alot of time walking around the entire restaurant marveling at the products of accessories and food hanging on display racks. The concept was open and inviting.

There were many chefs (all of them westerners), a row of them behind the food preparation counter, which only had a panel of transparent glass separating the customer and the food. I saw the magic in their hands and heaven in their food.

I couldn't resist myself anymore!

I personally don't see this flavour around much in Singapore, so I jumped at the chance to be able to dig into one. Each bite was soft and heavenly!

Macarons

A common snack in Singapore as a result of its exponential growth in popularity in the past few years. I've eaten macarons from various bakeries or cafes but this is surely da bomb. This macaron melts in your mouth!

I regret I wasn't able to eat more from being too full, but I'll be back for more! Just you wait!

What’s tea without something sweet? Consider their Strawberry Shortcake ($6.50)? A cube of sweet sandwich. Chantilly cream may look excessive and fattening but it was light and very delicious. Once in a while, it’s good to let loose and enjoy something good!

Good things often come in a pair and I thought why not get something cheesy like a slice of Oreo Cheesecake ($6.50). Honesty speaking, it was something not worth praising but I heard much relish about their red velvet cakes but never had the chance to try it. Maybe I will have it on my next visit?

Being the excessive me, I like something savoury and sweet to sip. French Earl Grey ($5.50) ought to do the trick! But as minutes turned to hours, we suddenly got a little bit hungry and decided to proceed from tea to brunch!

It wasn’t a weekday so there’s no breakfast served (8.30am – 12pm) and we had missed the weekend brunch (8.30am – 3pm) so we flipped the menu, seeking something that will satisfy our hunger pangs and I thought Croque Madame (20.50) would do just the trick…

I thought it was gonna be something great but when it appeared on our table, I felt a pinch on my already thinned wallet. I don’t doubt the ingredients they put in my French sandwich but I expected more since I can get one at much affordable rates…

If you’re seeking somewhere nice for brunch along the streets of Orchard Road, I suggest you seek somewhere else. Especially if you’re a student. Stick to their desserts and drinks and you will do just fine. Personally, I prefer their outlet at Dempsey Hill where I can enjoy the early morning Sun over something sweet.

Delightful Lunch with a girlfriend. Enjoyed our appetizer and mains immensely. We were full to the brim after the mains and had no space for dessert. Would like to try desserts their desserts someday....

We had:

Tapas: Piquillo peppers filled with feta wrapped in parma ham on melted tomato sauce. Unexpectedly delish!

De cecco malfadine pasta with braised duck, porcini mushrooms, spinach and parmesan

Confit chicken with herbed potatoes, french beans, mushrooms and jus. The mushrooms and potatoes were fantastic but the chicken was a tad too dry

Its not our first time here because my ang mo kia often misses the saucisson and charcuterie which he can hardly find here (and super ex!).. Jones allows u to choose a combination of htings to form a charcuterie platter (charcuterie=raw meats/sausages)Platter introduction: the one on the top left is what he calls saucisson, which is a bit like salami.. or like a rather raw form of chinese sausage.. he loves it to bits but complains the ones here are never as good as the ones in france and mayb 3

Platter introduction: the one on the top left is what he calls saucisson, which is a bit like salami.. or like a rather raw form of chinese sausage.. he loves it to bits but complains the ones here are never as good as the ones in france and mayb 3 times the price. We chose a light cheese (so i can eat) which is a brie.. and the last one at the bottom of the platter is a kind of ham.. so of course he enjoys the platter alot but i dun think its very value for money. I tried the thing on the top right.. its a big like a fig paste thing with nuts.. Oh i know its quince! its the thing u eat often on a cheese platter.. that was quite yummy.. The platter cos close to $30 and comes with the bread basket as well..

I ordered something more normal.. lol. and i didnt regret.. was very yummy! chicken avocado sandwich.. had everything i wanted.. egg, chicken.. salad on the side and portion was perfect. I dun even usually like avocado but it worked surprisingly well in the sandwich.. comparatively.. mine cost abt $13 i think..

I also ordered a machiatto which was very strong but comes in an espresso cup.. which i didnt know... nice strong brew. =)

Overall.. i would say its quite pricey but i think for a foreigner craving for a piece of france it was the closest my boyfriend could get.
