I made yet another trip down to Pek Kio Food Centre just to try the prawn noodle from Wah Kee Big Prawn Noodle 華記大蝦麵 (managed to visit on Dec 2013!). However, stall was closed. (It seems that the owner is not feeling well and has been advised by the doctor to rest indefinitely.)As such, I decided to try Lai Hiang Pork Rib Prawn Mee 来香肉骨虾面, the other prawn mee stall in Pek Kio Food Centre. There was a long queue at the shop, around 8 people long. There was a long queue at the shop, around 8 people long. I waited slightly more than 15 minutes before I was able to order and collect my order (self-service).

Prawn Noodle ($2.50)

The Prawn Noodle was quite decent. I thought that the soup was excellent. It was light brown in colour, clear, sweet and rich in flavour. The plus points was that it was not salty. The ingredients were pretty average and the prawns a tad too small. At $2.50, I can't complain too much about the ingredients, but it was really a great bowl of prawn soup if you are someone who prefers your soup to be light and easy on the throat.

Overall, the prawn noodle was not bad. However, I will not make a special trip down just for this.

ps: if you are here, do try freshly made Chee Cheong Fun. Its cheap and good!

1) Dry prawn noodles $3: I had this for takeaway. The noodles had a springy texture and the pork slices were not tough. The gravy was also flavourful and went well with chilli. Prawns were also fresh and sweet.2) Prawn kway tiao soup $3: Tried the soup version and I preferred this (probably because it was served hot and eaten on the spot?). The soup stock was very flavourful and went well with the smooth kway tiao. The chilli powder also enhanced the taste of the dish. Queue was always very long

The FoodI ordered a bowl of prawn mee pok dry served with fresh fish cake slices, pork slices and a few small prawns. The mee pok is cooked with a perfect springy texture and fully absorbed the chilli sauce and the prawn flavour. The rich and concentrated soup which have been cooked for long hours also complements the delicious noodles. The small prawns are fresh and sweet while the pork slices are tasty and tender. The PriceReasonably priced at $3 per bowlOverallI will definitely come back again

All the while I have only been eating Bee Hoon dry or soup from this stall. I have never tried Kway Teow Soup before. Today, I have no choice because we were late and only Kway Teow and Mee were left. I don't like dry Kway Teow so I ordered the soup one. With the chilli padis added, the taste of the prawn soup was enhanced. The homemade shallots made it even tastier. Yummy.

Finally, I managed to have this stall updated on the Openrice list. I have been patronising this stall for more than 10 years. It is also very popular among the people working around this area. During lunch time, the queue was always very long. This bowl of dry beehoon was $3. Their minimum order was $2.50. The shallots was fried by the seller themselves, that's why they tasted very fresh. I don't like those that were fried by in bulk by factories. Those normally have a very strong smell of low

This bowl of dry beehoon was $3. Their minimum order was $2.50. The shallots was fried by the seller themselves, that's why they tasted very fresh. I don't like those that were fried by in bulk by factories. Those normally have a very strong smell of low grade oil. I believe they were unhealthy too. The soup was very sweet. The portion was big for $3. As a whole, it was yummy.
