During the day, the bistro are well lit with natural lights that come through the huge pane of glasses. While in the evening, a slightly traditional theme lighting are used. With the American influences, the dining area are decorated with Americans influences, traditional style wooden chairs, wooden tables, and 1970s record. There is also a bar and drinking area for those who enjoys one or two after-work drinks.

We begin our tasting session with Pan Seared Foie Gras ($19) and Cajun Blacken Fish Taco ($16). The Foie Gras is nicely pan fried, crisp on the outside and served on a thick slice of French Toast brioche. The combination of chocolate ganache and bacon jam provide a complementary flavours to the Foie Gras.

The Cajun Blacken Fish Taco is unique and new to me. Using haddock white fish, the texture is lean and firm, but with a mild flavour which made it flexible to combine with other flavours for the taco. For the flavours, it tasted sweet and creamy from the pickled onions and avocado mayonnaise, while for the texture, it has crispy and juicy texture. If you never had taco before, imagine you are eating Kueh Pie Tee with cheese. Watch out for the Jalapeno though, it is fiery.

For salads, we have two choices of Superfood Salad ($18) and Baja Cobb's Salad ($19). Superfood salad is a super healthy salad, which consist of quinoa, chick peas, blueberries, avocado, pomegranate, pumpkin seed and citrus vinaigrette. It tasted fresh, but it can be slightly raw or very earthy to some. Meanwhile the Baja Cobb's Salad is my kind of salad, especially with cajun spiced chicken, eggs, bacon blue cheese and red wine vinaigrette. It is very tasty and the dressing binds all the ingredients well. Warning, Cobb salad has a reputation for being the unhealthy salad, but it just taste so good!!

Mains portrays more on the theme of the restaurant, AMERICAN. SFC Seasons Fried Chicken ($25), Jerk Spiced Pork Meatloaf ($29), Seasons Cheese Burger ($25) and Roasted Lamb Rack ($32). For the fried chicken, it uses buttermilk as part of the seasoning to help maintain the moisture in the chicken so it is tender and succulent. That can be said about the fried chicken here, however it is not very flavourful. They expect the succotash and deviled ranch dressing and homemade catchup to add the taste to the fried chicken. I personally like my fried chicken without any sauce, so I think it is so so only.

The meatloaf is seasoned using jerk spiced, which originated from Caribbean / West Indies communities. It has a very earthy and strong flavour and normally they dry rub it into the meat. In this case, the meatloaf has a unique flavour to it. Either you like it or your don't. I personally like this, especially with the smooth and creamy mash potatoes. For the lamb rack, I find it cooked unevenly, some part of the meat is juicy and succulent, while the other part can be chewy. The potato is nice though, combination of half potato, filled with mash potatoes and baked again. Unfortunately the gravy was just overpowering.

Burger is a must try dish here. We had two burgers, one cooked to medium rare and the other to medium. Both burger are nicely done, tasty and juicy. According to SB, the brioche buns are baked fresh by Imperial Treasure bakery next door, based on the chef's requirement. If anything that can be improve from this burger, it will be the fries. Midway through the burger, the fries become soggy already.

While Southend Pasta ($22) looks like a comforting dish with the sausage and tomato based sauce, it was a total disappointment. The pasta was overcooked to the point of soggy and the sauce is very lacklustre. More chorizo, more cheese and less cooking time for the pasta might do the trick to improve this dish.

Coming to the end, we had two desserts to try. Maple Pumpkin Cheesecake ($12) and Miss D's Pecan Pie ($12). The cheesecake has a dense and solid texture. It is tasty, creamy and goes well with the cranberry cream. For the Pecan Pie, the fillings was very sweet and it does not hold well together. It breaks before we even touch it, and the ice cream was just too sweet. Rather than using vanilla ice cream, probably a fruit sorbet will be a better option.

Overall, SB allowed me to have a taste of some North American dish such as their Fish Taco, Cobb Salad and the Jerk Spiced Meat Loaf. As SB continue to change their menu seasonally, the chef has an opportunity to fine tune the menu. So if you are in Orchard Area, give Seasons Bistro a try. Cheers!!

Thank you very much for OpenRice and Seasons Bistro team for the tasting invitation.

Huge serving and comes with fries and salad. The ingredients are homemade 200gm USA beef patty, stripy jack cheese, brioche bun, caramelized onions, bacon, mushrooms, homemade ketchup and mustard with fries. Too bad, I don't take beef but the fries and salad with the homemade ketchup sauce is nice.

I am not much of a foie gras fan but tried nonetheless, the foie gras tasted very chewy and was sweet thanks to the french toast beneath it. This dish consists of chocolate ganache, accompanied by bacon jam, caramelized bananas, tomatoes & granola crumbs.

Chicken wings and drumlets, 3-4 pieces if I am not wrong. Good to have as a side. Chicken was crispy and I felt it needed more taste, hence the tartar and ketchup was given.

The restaurant offers North American Cuisine (consists such as Canadian cuisine, American cuisine, Mexican cuisine and Central American cuisine) and changes its menu seasonally. The restaurant also has a bar which serves a wide spread of drinks. The restaurant is decorated in black tones and American style but in a mordern way.

Baja Cobb's Salad
($19++)
An almost mexican salad ! Cajun spiced chicken, eggs, beans, bacon, olives, corn, mixed greens, watercress, tomatoes, avocado, blue cheese and house vinaigrette.
Such a big serving and with a bit of everything, everyone is remarking that it is a great and filling one dish meal. From the crispy bacon, to the juicy chicken and crispy greens, it is such an explosion in my mouth.

Superfood Salad
($18++)
Quinoa, broccoli, chick peas, blueberries, capsicums, avocado, baby spinach, herbs, pomegrante & pumpkin seeds, citrus vinaigrette.
It is a huge plate of greens, which frightens off the guys. I like the use of quinoa in the salad which makes it quite filling. The pomegrante has juicy and popping effects in the mouth.

Blackened Fish Taco
($16++)
Avocado mayonnise, pickled onions, crispy shallots, cotija cheese and cliantro jalapeno watercress salad on tortilla shell.
With so many toppings (especially the tangy tasting, pink-colored pickled onions) on top of the juicy Haddock fish fillet, it opens my appetite for the meal.

SFC Seasons Fried Chicken ($25++)
Succotash and deviled ranch dressing and homemade catsup.
The fried chicken is quite spicy with lots of different spices in it. I feel that the ranch dressing is a bit too overpowering to go with it, whereas the the catsup is a nice touch to it.

Pan Seared Foie Gras
($19++)
Pain de mie, chocolate ganache, bacon jam, caramelized bananas and granola crumbs.
The bacon jam is interesting with bits of chewy bacon in it. The caramelized bananas has a melt in the mouth taste. Together it is a great combination. But the levels of lighting in the restaurant is quite poor, and we could barely figure out what we are eating.

Season's Cheese Burger
($25++)
Homemade 200grams beef patty, stripy jack cheese, brioche bun, pickled jalepenos, caramalized onions, bacon, mushrooms, catsup and mustard with fries.
It is served on a big wooden chopping board. I feel that the patty could be more juicy. The bun which is freshly by next door Imperial Treasure Bakery, is quite soft and pillowy.

Jerk Spiced Pork Meatloaf
($29++)
Maple Bacon, Spinach, Mashed Potatoes & Gravey.
The meatloaf tastes a bit dry but filled with different spices. The creamy mash potatoes is a great balance to the dish as it makes feel not so dry after all. The gravey has a chocolatey taste to it.

Roasted Lamb Rack
($32++)
Baked potato, Asparagus, Brussel Sprouts, Veal Jus, Mint Pesto.
Currently this dish is not in the menu, but will be offered in the upcoming Valentine's Day dinner menu. The lamb is juicy and not too gamey in taste. The veal jus that is served with it has a chocolatey taste, while the mint pesto has a garlicky taste which I like very much considering that I do not like mint much. The potato has been mashed and mixed with other seasonings and cheese before baking. It tastes creamy and soft.

Southend Pasta
($22++)
Homemade tomato sauce, tagliatelle, own chorizo sausages, fennel, tomatoes, basil, chilli & loads of parmesan.
It is not too spicy despite having chilli in it. But the taste of the chorizo sausages is a bit too strong for me.

Maple Pumpkin Cheesecake
($12++)
It is served with strawberry, blueberries and cranberry cream. The cheesecake is creamy and does not taste too sweet. The cranberry cream is fruity sweet with bits of fruits in it, which adds another taste to the simple looking cake.

Miss D's Pecan Pie
($12++)
Comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Filled with huge pieces of pecan nuts, it is nutty and not too sweet. But the crust is quite hard to cut through with a fork.

Overall the dishes are great and huge in servings. Best for people who come in groups and can share the huge servings with all. Further more, it is located in such centralised location which should be easy for most to go.

The baja cobb's salad is for those who wants a hearty salad. It's full of greens but yet the cajun spiced chicken was a sinfully good addition to the otherwise too healthy salad. Lightly tossed in red wine vinaigrette, it is lightly acidic in taste but was well balanced out with the abundance of olives, corns and greens.
The superfood salad is for the full time vegetables lover. Loaded with lots of greens, the serving portions here at Seasons don't seem to scrimp any bit so the salad can just be your main course anytime! The downside is that the vegetables tasted a bit too raw so it can be a little hard to finish the whole serving on your own.
Cajun blacken fish taco is made with haddock, avocado mayonnaise, pickled onions, crispy shallots and cotija cheese sitting beautifully on a tortilla chip. The taco was an explosion of flavors in the mouth with the sweetness of the fish which was elevated by the other toppings with the crunchiness of the chip. It's a classic Mexican dish that is not so common in Singapore so I would recommend you to try this here!
My favorite dish of the night would be the pan seared foie gras! It is served on a thick toast with chocolate ganache, accompanied by bacon jam, caramelized bananas, tomatoes & granola crumbs. Doesn't that sound interesting already? Surely, the foie gras itself wasn't that outstanding but I enjoyed the dish as the combination of the flavors was very unique. Who would have thought that chocolate, bacon jam & foie gras would go so well together?
How can you miss out on fried chicken in an American restaurant? The skin was crispy but I thought it was overly battered! Chicken size was a little small so it became a little dry. What was delightful is the homemade ketchup served with it. It is tangy and went very well with the fried food. Homemade items just makes the entire dish stand out more, even if it's just a sauce as it portrays the chef's effort in the dish.
Season's bistro rendition of meatloaf is ground pork meat mixed with cornmeal and seasonings, on a bed of spinach and mashed potato with gravy. While the taste wasn't that much to my liking (acquired taste I guess!), I thought the mash was very smooth and creamy! The addition of some maple bacon on top was nice too, as the bacon was sweet and crispy!
The hit amongst the group was definitely the Seasons Cheese Burger! Just look at the homemade beef patty - so thick and juicy!!! Toppings include the classic burger selections like caramelized onions, cheese, bacon and mushrooms. The patty really make or break the burger and I'm so happy to find out that Seasons scored with theirs! It's not fully cooked so there will be plenty of meat juice as you sink your teeth into the burger!

We were also pleasantly surprised when we were served with their Valentine's Day special - Lamb rack. It comes with some sautéed mushrooms, asparagus (always a good side!) and meat sauce. The cook on the lamb was decently executed, as it was tender and did not have the gamey smell to it.

Last but not least, we also tried the southend pasta which was made of tagliatelle, chorizo sausages and homemade tomato sauce. This dish was disappointing as the pasta was clearly overcooked, and the sauce was too light for a tomato based dish.

We ended our meal with a maple pumpkin cheescake and pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. While the maple pumpkin cheesecake was slightly too dense on the palate, the berries cream at the side did help to lighten it. Pecan pie was made from whole pecans and served with a scoop of ice cream - great for the sweet tooth and it was nice to end the meal on a sweet note!

Thanks Openrice for the invite to Seasons Bistro, prompt and friendly staffs, generous serving of food, cosy ambience, had a enjoyable time there.The Superfood Salad looked colourful, tasted fresh and crunchy but I felt the overall taste was plain and astringent in the mouth, I guessed must be some of the bitter leafy. The Superfood Salad looked colourful, tasted fresh and crunchy but I felt the overall taste was plain and astringent in the mouth, I guessed must be some of the bitter leafy. The sauce or oil in the salad was not flavourful enough.

The Baja Cobb's Salad was more flavourful, with grilled bacons and cajun chicken. I liked the onsen style egg with running yolk and the avocado, which make the salad leafy creamy.

The Jerk Spiced Pork Meatloaf had a different sensational taste in the mouth. The Meatloaf was heavily spiced with multiple ingredients, it tasted unique and mosit. It would be great if this Meatloaf can be used as a patty for the burger.

The Pan Seared Foie Gras was the star of all the dishes. The Foie Gras was moist, yummy and almost melted in the mouth.

The Cajun Blacken Fish Taco serving was small as compared to other dishes. The boneless fish tasted fresh and well cooked.

The Seasons Fried Chicken (SFC) was average. The chicken parts were small, the meat was slightly dry and the battered skin was bland, would need to dip in the sauces for added flavours.

The Seasons Cheese Burger looked appetizing. The slightly sweeten buns tasted very yummy, but the beef patty was dry and over-cooked. It would be better if we can choose medium-cooked for the meat patty.

The Roasted Lamb Rack was delicious and serving was big. The lamb meat was juicy and tender. Though slightly bland when eaten alone, I would need to dip into the sauce for added flavour.

The Southend Pasta was quite ordinary. The tomato pasta sauce was light and very mild in spices. I would prefer the pasta sauce to have more herb spices in taste.

The Maple Pumkin Cheesecake was thick in flavour. I would be full even if just eating the cake as a main course.

The Miss D's Pecan Pie was very sweet especially the pecans. The vanilla ice cream had a chewy texture, something similar to gelata, with rich vanilla flavour, it tasted good.

Overall, this North American Bistro served good food for some dishes, but the prices were slightly higher than other restaurants in the vicinity for ala carte menu.

Dish 1 : Cajun Blacken Fish Taco is made up of avacodo mayonnaise, pickled onions, crispy shallots, cotija cheese and cilantro jalapeno watercress salad on tortilla shell. This dish costs $16. The taste is fine and not spicy. This is Seasons Bistro’s signature dish.

Dish 2 : pan seared fole gras ($19) comprises the ingredient pain de mie, chocolate ganache, bacon jam, caramalized bananas and granola crumbs. The sauce from the bacon jam and chocolate ganache have come out an unique taste. It is apetitising. This is Seasons Bistro’s signature dish.

Dish 3 : Superfood Salad ($18) is served in plate with quinoa, broccoli, chick peas, blueberries, capsicums, avocado, baby spinach, herbs, pomegraqnate & pumpkin seeds, citrus vinaigrette. This is as good as fruit salad with all the anti-oxidant fruits. The broccoli is cut to large size. I would suggest to use baby broccoli. This is a popular dish among the diners.

Dish 4 : Baja Cobb’s Salad ($19) is served in salad bowl. It has Cajun spiced chicken, eggs, beans, bacon, olives, corn, greens, watercress, tomatoes, avocado, blue cheese and red wine vinaigrette. The dressing is light and does not destroy the freshness of the fruits and green salad. This is a popular dish among the diners.

Dish 5 : The Seasons fried chicken is served succotash and deviled ranch dressing and homemade catsup. It is a half spring chicken cut to portion. It is not oily but the flour could have thickened much of the chicken fresh and lose the meat’s moisture. It would be better if the display of the spring chicken is arranged nicely would enhance the look of the dish such arrange like suckling pig. This dish costs $25 and I would hardly consider for second try.

Dish 6 : Jerk Spiced Pork Meatloaf ($29) is made up of maple bacon, spinach, mashed potatoes & gravy. The meatloaf is made up of muster, pork sauage, oat, garlic, chilli flake and celery. It is a perfect meatloaf. It symbolizes the chinese ‘Ngo Hiang’ except that some of the herbal spice can be reduced and not to overpower the meat. The meatloaf is soft and can mix with mashed potatoes will be a good mix. The interesting part is the maple bacon does not make the bacon too salty. This is one of my favourite dish.

Dish 7 ; Seasons Cheese Burger ($25) is made up of homemade 200gm USDA beef patty, stripy jack cheese, brioche bun, carmelized onions, bacon, mushrooms, home made catsup and mustard with fries. The bun is soft. The beef is tender. Given a big burger, the fries is slightly too skinny.

Dish 8 : Lamb Reck was a surprise dish to Food Tasting Participants. It costs $32. The lamb is lightly marginated so that it will keep the tenderness and sweetness. The smell of the lamb is not strong. There could be some secret seasonal done to remove the smell

Dish 9 : Southend Pasta ($22) uses homemade tomato sauce, tagliatelle, Seasons Bistro chorizo sausages, fennel, tomatoes, basil, chilli & loads of parmeasan. The tomato sauce is well blended with the fennel. The fennel is neither too long or short for bite. The texture is not too thick with too much carbohydrate.

Dish 10 : Miss D’s Pecan Pie ($12) has a vanilla ice cream sitting on the Pecan Pie. The ice cream is too sweet which Seasons Bistro obtained from supplier. The Pecan is not broken and given as full pecan to bake together in the pie. The pie crust is neither too thick for bite. Just eating the pie can be filling for a meal.

Dish 11 : Maple Pumpkin Cheesecake ($12) has a biscuit crust as its base and together with maple pumpkin as the main character in this dish. The cheesecake is not sweet. The cheese did not overpower the pumpkin. The dessert is good for couple for sharing and dine in a hot afternoon at Seasons Bistro.

I visited Season Bistro to enjoy my meal.  I was tempted by the Carrot Cake and ordered a slice of the cake at $12.  The cake was rich in pegan nut.  It was not sweet and fully eating cake.  At the side of the cake, it is covered with walnut.  The cheese spread is filled on top of the cake.  The cake satisfied my hunger. The waitress was attentive to my need such as filling up my cup with warm water which I requested.

Interior & Menu

Located on the ground floor of Triple One Somerset (the former PUB building) and playing neighbour to Imperial Treasure Windows of Hong Kong and Imperial Treasure Steamboat (which I personally don't find that great), Seasons features a down to earth wooden interior with huge wall to ceiling glass panels for a view of the exterior pedestrian walkway.

Season's Poutine ($10++)

I love my poutine and even though Season's poutine was specifically recommended in quite a few reviews, it was quite a let down in my humble opinion. Sure, the fries were moist but where was the lightly crisp skin? Also, the gravy was a tad too bland and the Stripey Jack cheese came in cubes, not mildly gooey curds, which is one of the hallmarks of poutine. I will take gladly take Triple O's version over this anytime.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken ($22++)

After a rather disappointing start, this Southern dish of buttermilk fried chicken perked things up a little though it did look rather dry on the outside. Thankfully the meat was flavourful and juicy with a nice crunch from the skin. 3 rather small pieces, served with a side of corn salad.

Banana Split ($12++)

Season's deconstructed banana split. Done to an almost perfect disaster. 1 rock hard scoop of vanilla bean ice cream coupled with a dash of nutella and 2 pieces of caramalised bananas (goreng pisang) that came coated with a limp layer of flour and lacked any sweetness or taste for that matter. The granola nut crumbs gave this dish a slightly chewy taste which I personally didn't like; Crushed nuts would have suited better in my humble opinion.

1 poutine, 1 chicken and 1 dessert cost me about $52 nett. Expensive? Quantitatively speaking, not really. But qualitatively, yes. General food quality was average at best and definitely not worth the price paid. Service was pretty decent though and the restaurant offers a relatively quiet place to catch up with friends in Orchard road over dinner but unfortunately that's just not enough.

Final Verdict:

Ambience: 7/10 (Based on a weekday night)

Service: 7/10

Food: 5/10 (6.5/10 for the buttermilk fried chicken)

Value for money: 5/10

Overall: 6/10

Overall, the savory dishes we had were more impressive than the desserts. They were complicated, not only in terms of the ingredients but also presentation. So complex that we were playing "guess what's this ingredient". For instance, the Deconstructed Salmon Spanakopita ($29) boasts a lengthy description:

Pan fried salmon with sautéed spinach, crumbled feta crumbs, hung yoghurt, lemon Beurre Blanc, crispy leeks and olive oil caviar

Fortunately, the dish did not digress too much from the original Greek pie and the salmon was fresh with lots of slippery omega oils. But I was not certain about the value of lemon butter cream since the taste is already quite rich with cheese and yoghurt.

Char Grilled Portobello ($25) --eggplants, pickled onions, cucumbers, salsa verde, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, maple balsamic reduction is a good non-meaty option. Artichoke fans might be a little disappointed though, as there were no fresh artichokes in sight but they were deep-fried and transformed into brown "shallots" that squished out oil as you chew onto it.

We loved the truffle fries with pecorino and rosemary sea salt ($9) more than the succotash – corn, beans, tomatoes, peppers ($6). The latter risked creating an impression that they could be churned from frozen mixed vegetables. The cooking is assured and the menu is adventurous. But the same cannot be said of the desserts that were deprived of both originality and quality.

Red velvet cheesecake ($12) belongs to the heavy dense NY style cheesecake and tastes like cocoa. How about renaming it as Chocolate cheesecake? Meanwhile, the cream cheese frosting of the Carrot Cake ($12) is too sweet and zapped of moisture. If one measures the Mojito Tart ($13) according to the yardstick of a Lemon Meringue Tart, then the recipe for the pastry shell and the gelatinous custard will need to be fine-tuned, not mentioning the missing rum or mint.

Another classic American dish, it's usually served as a side, though this came under the mains menu. Served with dirty rice, which is somewhat like spiced rice, it came hidden in a stew with prawns, chicken, sausage and greens. Strong fiery kick, it was shiok for us, and I loved how the stew changed with the flavour of the dirty rice that was pretty plain initially, giving it a whole new twist, that we'd ordered second helpings of the dirty rice to mix in. A plate of soul food goodness indeed!

A random craving got us ordering this, with perfectly crisp chicken (albeit a little small), and tender juicy flesh. I liked the extra crunch yet not overdone, and the accompanying dips went well with it. Its side of vegetables was a tad overcooked though, with a charred bitter after-taste.

Indeed a pretentious one, this was basically 'goreng pisang' or banana fritters with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Though the banana was freshly fried, its batter was chewy and lacked crisp. We loved the scoop of ice cream though, and it would have been perfect if the cream could have been changed to an additional scoop!

With its price point, we find it on the high side given its portioning sizes. Its signature dessert didn't quite meet our expectations, though its mains were pretty good in its flavours. We loved it for its ambience and strong kick in flavours.
We would probably return for its lunch deals that certainly seems tempting with $12.99 sets, inclusive of a main course, soup of the day and unlimited soft drinks or coffee!
