Well I shall just jump straight to the conclusion that the place might be just our commonplace coffee shop but the food was really good and most importantly reasonably-priced! Perhaps it would not be such an ideal place to chill out but I would think one could have their mains here and then chill out at the cafes nearby such as Just Want Coffee. It is a good idea if one were to be on a tight budget haha Ordered the Cajun Fish with rice ($6 I think) and the Spicy Prawn Aglio-Olio plus a Cold Tofu and Goma sauce ($3.50) to share. The Fish was soft yet remained chunky and complimented nicely with the mango salsa sauce. The pasta was not too bad especially the prawns that were all succulent. Bean-curd served chilled with sesame sauce can never go wrong as always. There are a wide varieties to choose from and the price is reasonable though being slightly steep compared to coffee shop food fare. But I would say it is value for money considering the satisfactory quality of the food continue reading

Just had a casual conversation with a friend other day about this particular stall. Friend was saying their Japanese Curry Rice put those Japanese Restaurants to shame. Sebastian Ho is the Chef cum Owner of Sebastian Ho graduated from SHATEC and he has worked for hotels like Ritz Carlton and Grand Hyatt for a period. His passion in cooking urged him to start this hawker stall to offer affordable Italian and Japanese cuisine. His most proud dish is Chicken Katsu Cheese Curry Rice as mentioned in his recent interview with the media. His Chicken Katsu Cheese Curry Rice is indeed a good choice. It is priced at an affordable price of $6.50. The Japanese Curry Rice is easily at $13 and above in most of the Japanese Restaurants. Now, tell me. Would you pay $6.50 or $13.00 for the equally good standard Japanese Curry Rice?I was there on a weekday during lunch. The coffee shop was rather packed at that time till it required a certain effort to locate an empty table for 2.Sebastian was busy cooking by himself in the kitchen. He has got an elderly Uncle as his assistant. The Uncle was busy delivering the ready foods. I stood in front of the stall and waited for the Uncle to be back. Sebastian spotted me. He asked me for my order while busy cooking. I raised my voice slightly and ordered a portion of his signature Chicken Katsu Cheese Curry Rice and given my table. He told me the waiting time would be around 15 minutes. Honestly, i did not expect him to remember my order as i was telling my lunch partner. I waited. About 15 minutes or so, i saw the elderly Uncle approached my table with my order. The presentation scored a full mark. The chicken katsu was served with a good portion of rice on a squarish black plate together with generous serving of Japanese curry sauce. The chicken is supposed to be marinated for 24 hours to give it the flavor. It was then coated with bread crumbs and fried to perfection to achieve the desired crispiness and texture. It was served with the Japanese style short grain rice. It was firmly moulded into an oval shape then topped with black sesame seeds. The rice was cooked well to give it the likable softness and slightly sticky in texture. It was served with the japanese curry sauce. The japanese curry has got an aromatic curry taste with a good balance in between the sweetness and spiciness. It has got the desired sweeter, thicker and milder qualities as expected of a good Japanese curry. The tasty chicken katsu has got cheese embedded within. The Japanese curry complemented it rather well. It was served with lettuce and 2 pieces of cucumber, too.The first mouthful was delightful. I had eaten at a few places that supposedly served the best curry rice when i was in Japan for vacation. Thought not an expert but i felt there was a certain degree of authenticity in it.Though it might not be as good as those in Japan but i still somewhat enjoyed the comforting homely taste nonetheless. There are others like Spicy Salmon Aglio Olio, Spicy Prawn Aglio Olio, Spicy Crab Meat Linguini, Spicy Tom Yam Baked Rice, Beef Strognaff Rice and more on their menu. Amongst others on the menu board, the Chicken Katsu Chesse Curry Rice is definitely the must try. Good food at really good price. So, what are you waiting for?For half of the price charged by those proper Japanese restaurants, you have the equally or better standard Japanese Curry Rice with tasty Chicken Katsu with Cheese. continue reading

You've got to give credit to a chef who has a stall sign of his own namesake.Psychedelic lines inspired by the colored parallels from paul smith, flanked by a logo of his own caricature.Wasabi prawns. The sauce could be tweaked.Taste of wasabi was not evident.Perhaps wasabi powder/ paste instead of what's currently used? And i even know what goes into the batter. A tad salty but still a good choice while waiting for the mains to arrive. ;)Now this, was a culinary genius in fusion cuisine.Prawn and lala vongole.Who needs mussels.Honestly.These clams were small yet plentiful. A couple of prawns. But the best was yet to be.-The broth-It was simply lipsmackingly delicious.Thick with clam juice. The taste of the sea never was so satisfying.Spiced with the addition of chilli flakes,This was a dangerous appetite opener.Tread with caution. But heck,It's a selfish dish.Don't bother sharing.Slurp it all up anyway.Beef and mushroom stroganoff with japanese rice. The addition of white and black roasted sesame seeds was subtle yet spoke volumes of a fusion menu. The sauce was a good balance of savoury thickened with cream.Additions of capsicums and mixed mushroomscountered the heaviness of red meat with cream.Ample strips of striploin were used for this dish. (pun totally intended )And i could finish up the entire portion of rice. Thanks or no thanks, really, to the sauce. And just on a side note,He had an experimental day of wagyu beef (marbling score of 4/5) with rice.6 slabs of meat all sold out in a day. That's an affirmative definitely to be tested on the repeat. And I'm sure he'd oblige if you made an advanced request. The steady stream of customers till closing was heartening. And pretty impressive especially since there was a western stall just a couple of stores away. Then again, if the food was good.Competition is always welcome. Don't mistake this for pride. It's Confidence.Tucked away in a coffeeshop on everton park.Drop in on the boss. He's quietly humble. And loves his food.If he says that the lala broth tastes like prawn soup, feel free to disagree.Tell him it tastes like clam broth! Or buy him prawn noodles.I'm doing that next time round.Try it for yourself. And if I hadn't said so, I'll definitely be back for more. continue reading
