Waffles with ice-cream, which also came with mashmallow pop (toasted mashmallow)

Whenever I go for a barbecue session, mashmallow is a must buy item! I love to toast my mashmallow such that it becomes crispy golden on the outside and soft & sticky inside. Many times the mashmallow will melt inside before the outside get toasted enough to achieve the golden brown skin. Not easy to make and so it's pretty exciting for me to know there's a cafe that sell "ready to eat" toasted mashmallow. But hor, I think here, the mash mallow were not toasted enough for my liking. Waffles were pretty norm too.

Essentially, this was just toasted mashmallow sandwiched between 2 pieces of biscuits, topped with whipped cream and colourful sprinkles. A very simple "dish" that can be DIY yourself easily. Not really worth it, if you ask me for my opinion. Somemore, the biscuits a bit "la hong". =(

I lost my receipt and couldnt comment much on the pricing. Overall, dessert here was just too normal for me to revisit. Ok, where is the next dessert place to try?? =p

The cafe is decorated with mostly wooden furniture, wooden swing, wooden table, with sofa seats, a chalkboard wall and a grass carpet. Not forgetting a domokun! A very garden-y with a touch of modern from decorations like the European lampost!

The sweet treats there is pretty awesome too! Ordered their light rose aroma and taste, yet the whole taste is not overpower by the caffeine. Personally pretty like the rose latte. And it all came with a roasted marshmallow! Like those you BBQ it under the charcoal! Melts in your mouth!

We also ordered a macaroon and one of their pie tart. Both the desserts are pretty awesome and prices are comparable to other dessert cafes. This pie-tart must eat it warm. Its like a mixture layers of cookie, brownie and marshmallow drizzled with chocolate sauce. Chewy soft mouthfeel! Heavens for me! If it turns cold, you can request for them to warm it up for you again! Cause it will be pretty dry and hard. This pie-tart is one of the more unique sweet treats that worth a try! All in all, pretty nice surrounding and friendly service!

The ambience here is very relax and comfortable. Especially when you see the giant swing and the giant plush Domo. This is the top choice for chilling out for a mid day or end of day dessert. We had the lava cake and it's really wonderful. My wife loved it so much that we came back for this all the time. They also serve a marshmallow for each drink ordered.Location wise can be slightly out of the way but the good thing is that they are right beside a MRT station.

Initially I thought the Bandung Latte was a caffeinated drink, until the server told me it wasn't. Still, this was a very nice drink. With the correct amount of steamed milk, vanilla and rose syrup added, it feels sweet and milky enough. The only downside to this is that I felt that it was rather pricey.

Bandung Latte

The Macaron S'mores is also something unique to order here. The smores, which is essentially a marshmallow in between 2 macaron shells and smothered with the sauce of your liking (I chose Nutella). The smores burst upon the first mouthful. The marshmallows were soft and the Nutella made it feel more enriching. The shells were rather hard to chew on though.

If you live nearby Telok Blangah, why not give this place a visit? I will find myself being here if I'm around the area again (I feel like trying the waffles!)

Lemon Meringue Pie - S$4.80/-

I’m still on the hunt for good lemon meringue tarts, and this never fails to attract me with its pretty appearance. A tad disappointing though, with the meringue being too heavy and the lemon curd tasted a tad too sharp, greeted with a sharp tang then overwhelmed with sweetness after that. The only consolation was the crispy base to go with the soft insides.

Giving in to the gimmick, I’d ordered a rose latte just to get the roasted marshmallow. Perfectly roasted to give a warm and gooey inside, while remaining crisp on the outside, this doesn’t get to enjoy much camera-time. Have it while it’s still hot!

The rose latte that came was far from what I’d expected. Having tried rose lattes elsewhere, I was expected a usual latte infused with rose flavour. Astonished to see a pink drink approaching us, it was worse to find that it tasted just like Bandung (Rose syrup). The only difference was this was served warm and on the milkier side. Not a very pleasant surprise for me while expecting coffee for a little perk-me-up, though some may like it for a caffeine-free and slightly sweet drink.

This is not for the faint-hearted! Waffles drizzled with condensed milk sounds sinful enough, then topped with milo powder? For those who’re fans of milo dinosaur, this would probably sit well with you as some might not enjoy the overwhelming sweetness of it. I would have preferred the waffles to be slightly crispier so that the condensed milk can melt into it. This was just a pretty soggy piece that wasn’t all that impressive, except with the heavily fattening combination!

This place didn’t quite manage to impress, with its rather cramped and uncomfortable seating. We managed to get one of the private tables instead of the long communal table in the middle and found it uneasy to keep bending down to eat, that it would probably have been better if we’d sat on the floor. The desserts weren’t exactly the kind to bring me back either, unless I have the craving for marshmallows.

I ordered a waffle condenser ($5) which is a localised version of waffles topped with sweet condensed milk and chocolatey milo powder. It was an interesting combination and it was quite tasty while the waffle is warm and fluffy. A waffle version of milo dinosaur would taste like this. But after a while, it got a little too sticky and sweet for me.

I also placed an order for earl grey tea latte($4.50) which was a nice milky tea addition to wash down the waffle. The earl grey tea had a refreshing bergamot citrus flavour which definitely help perk me up. All drinks come with a lightly toasted marshmallow (hence their name I suppose!) marshmallow was toasted to perfection- warm, soft and chewy! I would want to try their marshmallow incorporated dishes in future!

I love the decor of the cafe. It gives off a cosy feeling which makes me feel like staying there to just read my book or talk to my friends. Well, I would really love to do that but there was a constant crowd on the Sunday that I visited and we did not want to deprive others of their coffee drinking chances! This newly set-up cafe can seat around 20-odd people I think; pretty tiny space!

Latte $4.50. I thought that the coffee was pretty good! And, the coffee art was good too! For a small budding cafe, Marshmallow tree cafe has definitely surpassed my expectations of it!

A differentiating point about this cafe is that they serve up their drinks with a roasted marshmallow! Loveeeee it! Though it is nothing fascinating, we were all still pretty hyped up when the marshmallows came. Reminded us of the good old days when we would all fight for the marshmallows during BBQ sessions. If only they had free flow of marshmallows or something, it would be so perfect!

Hot chocolate $5.50. I liked the hot chocolate as well as it was thick and milky enough! Would order it on days when I don't need caffeine.

Waffles with a scoop of ice-cream $7.50. This is a simple yet satisfying dessert! A safe choice!

Domo Cup $4.50. I would say this is something that I would order again the next time I visit the cafe! Melted marshmallows on top with nutella and biscuits at the bottom of the cup. Definitely something that will lift your mood up high into the skies!

Overall, I feel that the Marshmallow Tree Cafe is worthy place to visit. However, the cafe does not really serve proper meals so I would suggest dropping by for a cup of coffee and some sweets! Setting itself in a neighbourhood environment and having a unique theme of its own, I foresee increasing popularity of this newly opened cafe!

The Waffles Affogato ($8.30) is a must-try item stated on the menu board. I love waffles, and if you had been following me for a while I absolutely cannot resist any temptation when it comes to Affogato. This is a rather interesting combination, though I must say that I do not especially love it. I liked how the waffle here is airy, crispy and light, though the batter needs more work as the eggy taste seemed to stop short somewhere. The vanilla ice-cream was pretty fine, but the addition of espresso on the waffle can be a bit adventurous for some. Some coffee addicts might love it, but I find it creating an odd taste with the waffles as though the waffles was burnt due to the bitterness, though it was also aromatic with the fragrance of coffee. The ice cream and the marshmallow did however mediate out that taste, which makes me kind of have a love-hate relationship with this dish which was a tad quirky for me.

The Smores ($3.00) comes in various flavours such as chocolate, nutella and strawberry. I went for the Maple Syrup version. These are toasted marshmallows stuffed in between two table water crackers with cream on the top. Sinful as it seems but it was totally worth the calories; special instructions were given and I am told to squash it downwards before eating it. The marshmallow cream was irresistable and the maple syrup enhanced its sweetness. It was only a tad messy to eat as the marshmallow cream got onto my hand with the maple syrup and created a sticky mess on my fingers, but it was all worth it and I am not complaining.

The earl grey tea was nice, not very sweet and very refreshing. Their smores is another that I recommend, it come with normal biscuit or oreo , marshmallow in the middle and whipped cream on top, this dish is considered a bit expensive.

Another must try is their waffles, they baked till very crispy and not oily, for ice cream I had salted caramel, this place is a good place for relaxing, hanging out with friends. The service was great too!

Just note that some of the food I find is a bit expensive.
