Although the signboard clearly says Bedok Chee Kueh, you'll find this extremely popular stall in Chong Pang, Yishun. The stall holders aren't exactly the friendliest bunch, but who can blame them? They probably dish out hundreds of chee kueh in this stifling heat and have to deal with patrons giving them large $50 notes for a $1 portion because they don't have small change. But really, looking past the general hostility you are greeted with when patronising this stall, the chee kueh is worth not

I ordered the $1.50 portion, which comes with 6 pieces. The chee kueh is really soft and goes well with the cai por. I was pleasantly surprised to note that the cai por wasn't as salty as I expected, and it actually had a slight crunch to it. The cai por is chopped really finely here in my opinion, and the oil in it + the chee kueh really sets you on a guilt trip. The chilli is great -it has all the attributes of a classic, well-made chee kueh chilli. It's not too watery, it's spicy and has a robust aroma. Looking past the oil, this chee kueh definitely comes out tops based on taste, texture and value.

Note: The $1 portion gets you 4 pieces, $1.50 gets you 6 and $2 gets you 8. Super reasonable prices and the chee kueh is just so soft and fluffy! Amazing savoury breakfast or snack item.
