Talk about Peranakan Food, think of Baba King. Located at the corner of Expo Hall 3, it may not be easily noticed. I've been here many times and love their good food.

The Ayam Buah Keluak is a must-try! It is bathed in a rich gravy, and the taste of the buah keluak is somewhat astringent with delicate underpinnings of bitterness. According to a peranakan friend, the correct method to prepare this dish is to dig out all the flesh of buah keluak from its shell, chop them finely and stuff them back into the shell before cooking the dish. This preparation is seldom found elsewhere. It goes perfectly with the fragrant rice!

Try the Devil Curry Beef which is slowly stewed in its fragrant paste. I bet that you'll wipe out all the gravy and ask for more! The Sambal Prawn is nice, not too spicy. Another must-have is the Nonya Chap Chye. The cabbage melts in your mouth and the flavour lingers there... It reminds me of my mother's cooking!

Baba King also serves some fusion fare, such as spaghetti with buah keluak or sambal fish. We were not adventurous enough to try that!

Their signature desserts are pulut hitam (black glutinous rice) with XO and bubur terigu (white wheat porridge). XO pulut hitam is best taken cold. The bubur terigu soaks in the fragrant gula melaka. Never have I tasted such good bubur terigu! Another signature must-try is the lemongrass drink. It really quenches your thirst, especially on a hot, sunny day!

All these, plus the good PR from its owner, make Baba King a great place for top-notch Nyonya cuisine. Portion may be a little small, though, but it's good if you like to try many different dishes!
