I went to The Wine Company to celebrate a friend's birthday with a group of friends! This beautiful restaurant is tucked away at Evans Lodge, a rather inaccessible place if you're not driving. You can take a bus to along Dunearn/ Bukit Timah Rd and walk about 200m (see: gothere.sg, search for Evans Lodge). It's not that far if you're not wearing heels ;) You can also walk from Botanic Gardens, but it's a little far, around 500m. AMBIENCE: I liked the ambience a lot, with its dim lighting (bad fo

AMBIENCE: I liked the ambience a lot, with its dim lighting (bad for food photography though) and candles, it exudes a very romantic setting for everyone. The wonderful ambience just sets you in a good mood immediately. Surprisingly, this place is quite packed, both indoors and outdoors (you can choose where you want to sit) despite being located at such a secluded place. The crowd is mainly aged mid-20s and above.

FOOD: Wde variety of food available, ranging from local delights, pasta, platters... there's bound to be something for everyone! The food was above-average, but the portion was a bit small for my liking. But oh well, I'm a big eater so... I guess it's filling enough for most people. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Spaghetti ($14), which I liked quite a lot. I'd give it a 85/100. My friends ordered Crabmeat Spaghetti, Spaghetti Cabonara (and a few others which I forgot). All of them enjoyed their food very much

What's going to "The Wine Company" without some wine? We ordered a little, but were too inexperienced to fully appreciate the red wine.

SERVICE: Good service, prompt and polite staff that are well-equipped with the knowledge of their menu items. As we are amaeturs at wine, we asked for explanations of some of the wine selections. Despite the possibility of us not ordering any wine at all, they replied us with professionalism. Thumbs up! They also catered to our request to a birthday cake and provided plates and candles without any prior requests. Good initiative. That may seemed to be the least expected out of restaurants but many restaurants fail to reach this standard.

OVERALL: Very pleasant night out with friends and I would love to go there again, maybe after I've learnt more about wines and can fully appreciate the place. The staff are very patient to explain everything, so not to worry if you're not good at wine-tasting!

P/S: Important to dress up too, smart-casual is the general attire for most people.
