Domenico Piras, Head Chef of Pontini Restaurant, can still vividly remember what got him into cooking. "She [mother] doesn’t cook very well, so I decided to cook myself." Though he almost burned down their house the first time he tried his hands in the kitchen, he discovered at the age of 14 that cooking was what he was born to do.
And so, he honed his culinary skills by enrolling at Instituto Alberghiero Carlo Porta where he mastered the art of Italian as well as other cuisines. Since then, he has worked in renowned restaurants, luxury cruise ships, and dignitaries which included the Prince of Monaco and the President of Kazakhstan.
He came to Singapore in 2004 and has worked in other prestigious restaurants here as well as in Malaysia. It was only in October 2010 when he became the Head Chef of Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel’s Italian restaurant, Pontini.
Chef Domenico Piras has definitely come a long way from being the teenage boy who almost burned down their house to becoming one of the most sought-after chefs in Singapore when it comes to Italian cooking.
Terms & Conditions
• Registration fee for Package A, 2 pax is $196 (subject to GST), Package B, 4 pax is $392 (subject to GST).
The fee will cover everything from the kitchen utensils, kitchen wear, and the ingredients for the three-course set menu at Pontini.
• Once you have submitted your registration, you will receive an auto reply indicating a confirmation email.
If you do not receive the confirmation, please call 6631 8680 for enquiries.
• Limited slots are on a first come, first served basis. Priority will be given to those who pay first.
• Payment can be done by VISA, Mastercard or AMEX through the payment gateway as indicated on the registration form.
• For cheque payment, please make it payable to OpenRice Singapore Pte. Ltd., with your name, contact number, and name of event.

• Payment made on the date of the cooking class itself will not be entertained.
• OpenRice Singapore reserves the right to make a full refund to paid participants in the event the cooking class is full.
• Registration will be on the 2nd Level of Grand Copthorne Hotel and will start at 2:30pm.
• All sales are final and no refunds will be entertained.
