Hoot Your Way to OWL Café
2014-04-01
OWL Café – The homegrown brand has come to be one of Singapore’s prized possessions and in order to reach out to loyal followers, opened a flagship café at the Star Vista last year, serving Straits Asian food and of course, beverages from their respectable brand. April sees two more outlets blasting into operation – one for the crowd in the CBD over at Republic Plaza, the other snuggled in the eastern heartlands of Bedok Point. If you have not ventured beyond their doors before, here’s what you can expect: Signature mainstays to get a bite of include their kaya toast that uses fully blended pumpkin spread instead of your usual layer of coconut jam. And served in a cocktail glass is the classiest salad you’ll ever receive, topped with ngor hiang and covered in a flavourful secret dressing. With new outlets comes new menu additions, each a unique creation of OWL's master chefs. New and crisp toast options include a savoury Kopi & Chicken Floss Ciabatta Toast and Caramalised Fruits with Ice-Cream Toast for the sugar chasers.
The Seafood Fish Noodle may just be the perfect substitute for carb-cutters. Instead of flour, real fish paste is rolled into thick strands of noodles, served in a rich broth and loaded with succulent prawns and fuzhou fishballs - our favourite kind.
For the full works, get the nourishing combo of Black Chicken Herbal Soup that comes with a leaf-wrapped Lotus Roots Pork Ribs with Pumpkin Lotus Rice. High in nutrients with a lower fat content, the black chicken goes under the boil with red dates and other herbs for a rejuvenating slurp.
Now who doesn’t love Durian or Tauhuay? The new Soya Beancurd with Durian Pengat brings the best of both worlds together – homemade Durian Pengat sits on and greets a silky bed of soybean-based pudding. If the king of fruits is a thorn to you, we’d recommend the Mango Pomelo soya beancurd or even Chendol soya beancurd as alternatives. At first glance, it looks like your usual bowl of mango pomelo dessert, right until you dig in to uncover a buried treasure that is .. tauhuay, made from their in-house instant soya beancurd, which can be bought in their retail section or in most supermarkets. OWL Cafe's Bedok Point outlet is now open daily from 10am to 10pm, while the outlet in Republic Plaza is due to open its doors on 14 April 2014(Opening Hours: 7.30 am to 8 pm).
