Food Review: Lime – The New Buffet Wonder
2013-06-18
Halfway between Clarke Quay and Chinatown, you’ll find the massive $350 million architectural feat, PARKROYAL on Pickering. The new hotel is home to Lime – a casual, super spacious restaurant with both an a la carte and buffet spread worth checking out. Six different sections to explore
Who doesn’t love watching their food being prepared? Lime features three open-concept kitchens where you can watch the chefs in action while they whip up your favourite mouth-watering creations
There are about six different culinary sections to explore, of which three boast open-concept kitchens for your viewing pleasure. There’s the obligatory cold cuts & bread and cheese section, the refreshing Thai-Asian salad section, the seafood section, the Western section, the Chinese delights section and of course, the desserts section – which by the way, is the first thing that greets you when you enter the restaurant. Our hot favourites
Clockwise from top left: Beef Cheek Braised in Red Wine, Lime’s signature drink – Limenade, Pasta with Mushroom Sauce and Spice
The best thing to do at Lime is to try a little bit of everything (well, that’s how buffets work, isn’t it?). However, if you’re running low on stomach space, or if you’re watching that waistline of yours, go straight for our top picks such as the unbelievably tender Beef Cheek Braised in Red Wine, the hearty roast beef and possibly the best of the lot, the pasta. To be very specific, the pasta you must request for at the open kitchen is the ribbon-shaped pasta with mushroom sauce and “a bit of spice”. Dig into this Italian creation and you’ll immediately know why we love it so much! Don’t forget to wash all the good stuff down with a glass of Limenade ($8). As Lime’s signature drink, this zesty lime-based concoction is the ultimate thirst quencher and is guaranteed to cool you down on a hot, sunny day.
Clockwise from left: The Chocolate Fountain, Key Lime Pie, Lime Marshmallows
Lime’s array of desserts is pretty extensive and we don’t blame you if you end up talking several walks around the table without being able to make up your mind. Go for the signature Key Lime Pie – incredibly light with just the right amount of tartness – as well as the unique melt-in-your-mouth Lime Marshmallows. Other worthy contenders include the Pecan Pie, the Bread and Butter Pudding (remember to drizzle LOADS of vanilla sauce over it), the Linzer Tart, the Carrot Cake... we could go on forever. Must-try a la carte dishes
Herb Crusted Fillet of Cod
If you’re not in the mood for an all-you-can-eat feast, know that the a la carte menu brings you choices that are just as worthy. Bite into a little piece of cheese heaven with Croque "Monsieur" ($22), a sandwich filled with layers and layers of ham, gruyere cheese (the winning ingredient) and bechamel sauce, a buttery white sauce, or the fresh and comforting Herb Crusted Fillet of Cod ($38). The need-to-knows Lunch from Monday to Saturday costs $45++ per pax, and dinner from Monday to Sunday costs $58++ per pax. Brunch is available from 12pm to 3pm every Sunday. It's priced at $88++ per pax (including free flow fresh juices, soft drinks, coffee and tea), or if you want that free flow of champagne and selected red/white house wine, it's $128++ per pax. Lime is open from 6.30am to 12 midnight from Sunday to Thursday, and 6.30am to 2am on Friday, Sunday and on the eve of PHs. The bar operates from 12pm daily and closes at the same time as the main restaurant. Happy Hour is from 4pm to 9pm from Monday to Saturday, and all day on Sunday. Lime is located at street level and can be accessed directly from Pickering Street. See Also: Check out here for the best dining offers Explore more buffets at these fine dining restaurants
