New Breakfast Champions at Oriole Coffee + Bar

With new head chef Randy Torres onboard, Oriole Coffee + Bar’s Somerset outlet gets its menu peppered with new all-day breakfast items, mains, small plates and a coffee recipe revived from the 1980s that we wished we had sooner. From 8am to 6pm, a hot and hearty breakfast – served in the form of a Humble Baked Egg Skillet ($16), where sous vide eggs, roasted lamb stew and sweet potatoes are baked with Emmental cheese in a cast skillet before crispy bacon bits are scattered well over the top – is hard to say no to. The chef also pulls in Southern American influences to introduce new mains such as Country Fried Steak ($22), a breaded 100-day dry-aged Sirloin Steak to satisfy any meat craving. And you can’t fault the roasted garlic mash potato at the bottom.

If you’re on the hunt for more poké in the market, Oriole’s small plates section now sees an Ahi Tuna Poké ($14) that comes with a moreish side of deep fried nori chips. We imagine it would go swell with beer. Joining the Taisho cold-brew celebrities, new drink on the menu Death Cream isn’t all that new. Revived from a secret coffee recipe from the 1980s, vanilla beans are cooked with full cream and milk before getting a shot of espresso thrown in. Just the sort of kick we need on a dreary day. If you aren’t that crazy about caffeine, meet Haute Chocolate ($8). It’s made from single-origin Valrhona Chocolate and is available with the café’s well-loved non-dairy nut milk for an additional $1.50.

Swing by the tasting bar

oriole coffee
As pioneers of Singapore’s third wave coffee movement, these folks know their stuff and love to share their expertise on coffee. So we urge you to swing by their tasting bar, where a barista would be more than happy to give you a ten to fifteen minute chat about Oriole’s current roasts and the science behind their perfect joes. Then, order a Tasting Flight ($12) to experience their unique single origins as a single shot espresso, cappuccino and coffee shot variation.
